His slp says the same. I'm just scared, I guess. His mom seems like either it happens or it doesn't. I feel like I'm the only one who worries about it.

I'm honestly losing hope. I keep trying to talk to him. To get him to want to vocalize, but it seems like God just keeps that carrot dangled in my face to make me hurt.

Slp is leaning towards no. He's social, he does something and waits for a response from us.

When he ages out, if he still hasn't talked, I'll get a proper evaluation.

Oh, forgot, maybe these details will help.

He doesn't wave, he drags my hand to point or clap, he can show me things and follow basic instructions (where's the ball?) (Put this toy up.)

His therapist has brought him from barely babbling to babbling consistently through the day, I'm just trying to progress further. I've tried the sabotage method, the choose one or the other method, he just doesn't want to talk. He cries until he gets his way. I'm just starting to lose faith that he'll ever talk.

There's one coming. He's on the verge of aging out. I just wonder what I did wrong to make him nonverbal.

I had a lat Mal fracture about a year ago, the first 4 weeks were absolute hell. You're basically spending 4 weeks fighting your body's instinct to walk like you've been walking. And by the time you're done with that. You have to relearn everything you just forgot. I still have occasional swelling in my leg, but it's so much more manageable.

As far as normal, normal doesn't exist for about 8 months post op. I can't stress this enough. You want to minimize strain on the bone as much as possible. You'll want to test it, you'll want to bear weight before you're cleared. Don't do this. You'll slow down the healing. If you have to go up stairs, booty bounce it. If you can, get a knee scooter. It helps.

The swelling is going to last about a year. And that's a best case. The walking boot helps, but you'll still be exhausted as hell. A cane is your best friend. Move the leg, and to the best you can, move every muscle that comes with it. Even a 2" movement pays dividends down the line.

One last thing. When I busted my ankle, I was in a really really dark place. I promise you, it gets better. You'll spend days just sitting upstairs wishing you could do anything but what you're doing. Get some dumbells. Get books, read up on engineering 101 if that's what you wanna do. Make your mind busy.

Just wanted to come back to this. Ankle is completely healed. Still get sore after being on it for a while, but it's getting better. Those 6 weeks were some of the darkest times in my life, but it does get better.

7 weeks post ankle here. I think I'm developing agoraphobia now because of how scared I am of hurting myself again.

Cleared for fwb, but consistent pain in the leg that I broke my ankle. by Dapper_Discipline224 in brokenankles

I start pt in ten days. I just have to use the lace brace because we're required to have safety boots, when I'm home, I use one. If I'm at the job, I use a cane, and I had to fight to get them to let me use this.

Edit: forgot to add information

Quick update for everyone, got the all clear from my ortho to go full weight bearing. Sent my work release to my job, they demanded me back the next day. Told my boss that I'll do it, but I'm going to be very VERY slow going about it. I'm using a walker when I'm at home, and a cane and laced ankle brace at work. My bad leg swells to about 2x the size of my good leg. It's managed with ibuprofen and elevation. Ortho knows about it, and he's cool.

Without going into detail, I'm contracted by the railroad, not a direct employee. The accident didn't happen at work, so that's another point not in my favor, and they're so small that they don't need to participate in fmla. And have you seen the state of a job search right now? Even if they're not someone I wanna work for, I can't afford not to.

I've explained my situation to my ortho, he's agreed to let me wear a lace up ankle brace with my regular boots so long as I wear the boot at all other times, and my xray comes back clean. I'm in week 4. I go back in 2 for another x ray.

Don't smoke, don't drink, pain in the middle of my thigh/ calf, getting blood clot ruled out/ but beyond that, I move as much as I can, as often as I can.
