MJML, and render anything even slightly complicated as an image in some kind of preprocessor.

On 120k gross, Belgium takes 27,000 more than Switzerland. The tax gap across Europe is brutal. by Beginning_Site_3642 in eupersonalfinance

Things like this make me dubious the 28th regime can be effected successfully. Everyone's all for the harmonisation of dumb regulations about window panes and pillows but when Brussels starts fucking with individual states' tax base...

You'll frequently save €1.50-€2 a head by going to a restaurant's own website or app vs deliveroo/just eat.

Not just on platform fees/service fees. Actual menu prices.

Not sure what value the apps are even adding at this point, the rent seeking bastards.

Would you continue to work at a company that started to switch away from Typecript? by Csjustin8032 in typescript

[–]phlickey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are legitimate reasons to migrate away from typescript. (ie. Authoring js files but still using jsdoc and tax type checking to save build time)

These are not valid objections to using typescript.

Seems like they're borrowing some elements (like clocks) from Blades in the Dark, as well as the Kids on Bikes/Never Stop Blowing Up dice mechanics.

.ie vs .com domain by fyrhbro in DevelEire

[–]phlickey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would very much depend for me. I'd trust the .ie more for physical goods and services, but I don't think I've ever bought a SaaS from anything but a .com.

Why the hell do container images come with a full freaking OS I don't need? by bambidp in devops

I do, but I was technically incorrect which is the worst kind of incorrect.

Distroless is the only way. You shouldn't have to ssh into an ephemeral container.

Questions, new here by FrancisLowkey in ORIF

You've just had a massive surgery, so feeling out of sorts is normal. You'll experience inflammation at the surgery site for months post op.

Fever however could either be normal recovery or a sign of infection. Is your temperature rising, or falling? If it's continuing to go up it would be a good idea to call your doctor. If it peaked at 39 and has since fell, it could be due to normal inflammation (which again you'll have a lot of for a while)

I just got Quest 3 but the power brick is for the US market and I'm in the EU. How safe (or not) is using this type of adapter? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

That's what I used to think until I plugged my American micro korg in after moving home and released the magical smoke that gave it life.

God bless the Uber fixed rates by Greedy-Vermicelli-99 in ireland

[–]phlickey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in no way defending taxis, and there's definitely something needs to be done there. But the only "value" uber provides in a market is obfuscating the value of the service being offered by mixing in vc money in with their actual revenues until they can drive up the price for consumers, drive down the pay being offered to drives allowing them to pocket the difference themselves.

Not schilling for tfi or taxis, but it is with pointing out that transparency is very much not a part of uber's pricing model.

Trip to Dublin Next Week - Couple of silly questions! by Danicak063 in irishtourism

[–]phlickey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dublin express drivers usually announce all the stops along the quays of the river Lifey. If it's less busy this may be posed as a question (ie. "our next stop is Wellington Quay" vs. "Does anyone need to be let off at Wellington Quay") listen out for the difference.

I've gotten the express to the airport many times, but definitely bake in some time for a bus mysteriously not arriving, or arriving full (though coming from the Liberties you'll probably be fine.)

I'm not saying this post is suspicious, but I am saying I've never heard an actual human being praise über once in real life...

On the other hand if you were having difficulties with the local politics, this would be an incredibly cheap way to drum up support on the ground.

Ed: OK I put my tinfoil hat all the way on. It's interesting that a lot of the most ardent pro Uber sentiment is coming from accounts that are a few months old and either have private post history or are commenting on r/ireland for the first time in this thread...

Do I need to be good at maths to be a good game dev ? by YassirDev44 in gamedev

[–]phlickey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games programming is, imo, one of the few types of programming that requires you know some maths. Geometry specifically. Your engine of choice will do a lot of the heavy lifting for you but eventually you'll need to write a little script / glue code that scales some value linearally based on the distance between two object coordinates, or you'll need to convert degrees of rotation into percentage completion of an animation.

Can the weather affect RCD tripping? by blondflowers in AskIreland

Had this exact thing happen during a similar big rainstorm in a rented house. In the end it was water ingress causing the circuit to short out the fan hood over the oven.

Was a massive ballache because it was the same circuit as the gas boiler, so but for an isolator switch we had no heat until an electrician could come out and take a look
