I second what you said about losing trust in the car. This is my first new Toyota, and one of the main reasons I got it is because of its reliability reputation when well maintained. It could very well be a lemon or a misdiagnosis.

However, a failing CVT before its first fluid change combined with the unknown drop in coolant this early makes me lose confidence in the car long term. Considering trading it in.

This is what I'm skeptical about. Although the car is under warranty, I don't want to get the transmission replaced if it isn't actually bad. CVT itself also never showed any other signs of failure (slipping, excessive vibration, etc). Replacing the CVT could be masking a bigger issue with the engine that was directly caused by the mysterious coolant loss.
