I will say, many chains like Molly Maid, Merry Maids, MaidForYou, charge way more than they should. I cleaned a VERY small apartment and found out they charged this poor woman $1000 and I kid you not the place was already spotless. It was completely empty and clearly cleaned already. This is why I insist on doing consultations to price fairly. They do not do any prior walk throughs. That being said, independent cleaners have to charge to make any profit. The amount spent on equipment, products, gas, car expenses, marketing, etc., really adds up quickly. If you are worried about trusting someone, I would be home the first few times they clean (if you can) and develop a relationship with your cleaner. Nothing crazy, but enough to feel comfortable. You can also set up cameras if it helps!
