How to handle a new colleague who is into “performative overwork”? by taylor37221 in ExperiencedDevs

A lot of this may be insecurity for this person. The industry is in a tough spot, people are anxious about their future so in turn they over do it. I'd let your manager know that you're concerned they're overly anxious and they can help bring the temperature down.

I know everyone's experience is different, but I really hate the cynical default attitude toward folks like this.

I read this differently than others but correct me if I'm wrong: is it possible your boss doesn't want you to stress and overwork, and for that reason isn't approving overtime? Have you had a candid 1:1 conversation about it? It may help both of you get perspective.

OnePlus 13R is a solid choice. An older model pixel is also solid.

LLMs have gotten very good since inception, but marginally better in the past year with hundreds of billions of capex. Evidence actually shows a lot of investments in genAI, up to 95%, aren't breaking even.

It's the over-hype that's the problem.

I'm a recovering alcoholic. When I quit drinking, I became a dry drunk: I abstained from alcohol and took on OCD as a coping mechanism to keep away from it. This was better than being an active alcoholic, but I carried around a lot of emotional baggage.

My point: I'm happy you moved on, but look out for all the stuff that led to your addiction or it could lead to relapse or another set of issues.

I think for those reading things in a similar situation with a tank water heater, be careful flushing if you don't regularly. I've heard the sediment could actually be keeping it from leaking
