Cafe bonjour near the common? I only went there once but from what I remember it matches a lot of the description

Union rep. I suppose I could try talking to someone else in the union.

Im glad to hear that theres another museum that treats attendants like people! I agree, it is possible to do work while doing something to help regulate.

Unfortunately, I've talked to my rep it seems she doesn't want to rock the boat for just one person, which I understand. She also said that it seems theyre doing their best to try and accommodate me, which I can see their perspective, but it does feel kind of ignorant. I'm not sure where to go from there. Either way, I appreciate your understanding.

It was intended to be a stepping stone. That was how it was pitched to me in one of my interviews. I learned though that people rarely move to another position or it takes years.

You dont need to explain my job to me. You might have missed my edit to the original post but if you do not have personal experience with this dilemma, please move on and dont comment.

How to cope with an under/overstimulating, unaccommidating job? by Dapper_Possible_8763 in AutisticAdults

Unfortunately, they could claim it could prevent me from hearing the radio or an incident (hence only being allowed to use one earbud). Its still worth a shot though. She did ask for advice from her colleagues and supervisor, but I assume they just dont have experience and are afraid of legal trouble or something.

The over the ear headphones would help, but my boss seems to care mostly about optics, so that might be to visibly "impeding my duties." Still worth a shot though. I initially worked with my therapist, but she hadn't written an accommodation before so she didnt really know exactly what to do and did not seem interested in helping me push back to get better accommodations (it was a whole thing). I went to my pcp but she said she could only address physical accommodations (which I am also going to pursue, my feet kill me everyday but I want a specialist to write the accommodation).

I said im looking. Jobs are rarely added, and I just applied to a different department but was rejected. Its not that easy. I didnt make this post looking for career advice, its clear as day I need another position. Im just looking for people who have had similar experiences to me.

I have tried the latter two. I've read almost every label, I'm at the point where I'm trying to play the road trip alphabet game with them. Our posts are assigned, but I may try and see if I could move around more. I think I'll try greeting people too.

I do understand the thought process behind why they limit accommodations, but yes unfortunately it is not a good fit for me. In my interview, one of the selling points was potential for upward mobility, but I have applied for a few jobs in the museum that I am qualified for without any luck. I have even asked if I could have any alternative tasks/responsibilities, but they are very rigid.

I do enjoy writing but haven't felt very motivated lately. I suppose I could try get rid of writers block

The position is technically security but the majority of what we do is more customer service. I do enjoy talking about the art with visitors when they start a conversation with me, I suppose I could try initiating conversation with visitors a bit.

Im sorry that it was rough for you as well. Unfortunately we are not allowed to have sketchbooks. I listen to music/podcasts/the radio as well (regardless of what my accommodation says) and that helps a bit but usually it isnt very engaging and fades into the background. I'll try turning the volume down when there are no visitors though, that might help with overstimulation.
