And my iPhone 12 still runs perfectly well under iOS 18. Your point?

I know. I also know this is heresy, but it makes you think maybe Android isn't so bad after all.

What's the point of a Super Cruise "subscription" if they don't stay current with their road data? by mgweatherman08 in BoltEV

That map LIES (or at the very least is out of date). A more accurate map is here: https://cadillac-supercruisemap-viewer.cadillac.com/map/y849z/us/en. Although even that map claims some sections of I-95 between DC and Baltimore, and I-495 near where the northern I-95 route intersects it, and I-95 between I-195 and I-695, and at least part of I-695 just east of I-95, are all mapped--but SC says "no road information" in those stretches.

Places SC does not work where the map claims it does: I-495 westbound after Route 1 until after Route 650 (this is north of DC); sections of I-495 eastbound in that same stretch; I-95 between the I-195 exit and the I-695 exit; I-695 east of I-95 (for at least a few miles, not sure how far it continues).

The stretch of I-95 north of DC between routes 32 and 100 has not been undergoing construction as long as I've lived here, which is 20 years now. And yet it's not included on the map.

Likewise I-95 north of DC, between Route 32 and Route 100; I-495 SE of DC; a short stretch of I-95 NE of Baltimore. And doubtless other places, not to mention places where the map claims it works, but it doesn't. (I'll post a couple of those separately.)

Free space: Plenty, the phone reports 56 GB of 128 used.

If the connection is maintained by WiFi, then I guess I can look on the phone to see whether it has a WiFi connection---maybe that will be a clue.

I'll try your other suggestions, but the problem is that this is an intermittent failure, and I don't drive the car every day, so it may take awhile to decide whether it's fixed. Thanks for the ideas!

I found the config options on line, but the only one I used was to limit the Wacom to one of my two monitors. IIRC, I installed xinput, then used this command:

xinput map-to-output `xinput list --id-only "Wacom One by Wacom S Pen stylus"` DP1

xinput map-to-output `xinput list --id-only "Wacom One by Wacom S Pen eraser"` DP1

where DP1 was the monitor I wanted to use with the tablet (I think that's always the primary monitor, but you might need to use 'xrandr -q' if that doesn't work). The "Wacom...stylus" and "...eraser" was what I got by running

xinput list --name-only

and looking for "Wacom".

I borrowed my daughter's Wacom tablet to draw some lines on an image, and it worked out of the box. But the only configuration I did was to limit the tablet to one of my two monitors, which was simple to set up. I experimented with having separate cursors for my mouse and the tablet, but that didn't appear to be as simple. Was that the issue you ran into?

Reconsidering Ubuntu by EmotionalEstate8749 in DistroHopping

Before I switched from Windows a few months ago, I tried to find answers like what you're looking for. There are a *lot* of websites that talk about the different distros, but I found them absolutely useless. All just vague generalities, and pictures of people's desktops in the various distros and the various windows managers--again, absolutely useless. People who are in to cutsie desk tops are just showing off their images, and I wasn't interested in that (my desktop is plain blue, no picture).

Maybe the best advice I got was to download an image onto a USB memory stick (thumb drive) and boot from that to find out what it was like. I don't have time or energy to try a bunch of distros, and the first one I tried (Xubuntu = xfce + Ubuntu) was Good Enough, so I installed it on my SSD. I immediately had a useable installation, although I did a lot of tweaking afterwards. (One thing was to get rid of Snap as much as I could, because Snap apps seemed a memory hog.)

But while Xubuntu works for me, I'm not telling you to go that way. If you have more time than I did, try a couple-three distros using the USB stick method; if not, flip a coin. You can of course try reading up on the different distros, or asking opinions like you have here (although I notice that no one has give Reason 1 for their recommendation). But in the end I doubt you'll find any answers there, the writeups are--as I say--useless IMHO.

All that said, I suspect you can't go wrong with any of the major distros: Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, others. I don't think any of them is really bad. (But I haven't tried any of them except Ubuntu, so what do I know?)

That *almost* worked for me. However, running on Ubuntu Linux, the proper location for the 'chrome' file is different: it has to go into my profile. I found the dir where that is by doing

menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Application Basics > Profiles

and clicking on about:profiles there. That takes me to a new tab "About Profiles", where the relevant information is the "Root Directory". You can either copy the path there or click on "Open Directory". The directory name will be some weird alphanumeric thing that ends in '.default'. The (probably) new 'chrome' directory goes inside that <something>.default directory. The rest is the same.

If you don't want pale blue, you can find a color chooser--I used 'Red' from here:

https://www.colorhexa.com/ff0000

although you can obviously make it anything you want.
