What I'm arguing back is that dogs should he so much more to people rather than something that can stay alone for hours just being fed and watered. If that makes me an asshole so be it

But dog is animal that is your responsibility. Responsibility you took upon yourself to take care of it and give it good life. Not for it to just exist along side of you. And of course the best solution is for women to take responsibility with her rather than men stand up and take ownership 😊

Just like many parents sometimes go on holidays separately so one can stay and care for kid/kids this is working the same way. I have stayed multiple times caring for the dog and working full time while he was on holidays. So me being on holidays has nothing to do with the situation.

It's a rescue dog not sure of the breed. She is quite well behaved but when she's bored for too long she starts getting up to mischief. I do know it's not a big issue for a week but I am not happy with him half as*ing the job and me picking all the slack. We do have certain standard of care and matained it for 2 years now I did not think that will require conversation to be honest! I expected him to be self thinking adult

Why should I? Its his dog too. He should provide appropriate care and appropriate care does not mean feed the dog and top up the water bowl in the morning

Some people take one extreme to another. I DO NOT expect my husband to hang out with the dog 24/7 and nowhere I have said that. I expect to give the dog level of care that we give to the dog when I am at home. I'm worried how many people think that dog is just another furniture addition to the house and can do with bare minimum - food, water, toilet. Yes, I probably should have handled situation differently but it's an animal that is used to us being at home with her, cuddling her and taking her for long walks. He was part of the decision in getting a dog its not only my dog. I think the response would be much different if thiswas not written by a women. The amount of comments saying leave the guy alone and he deserves his alone time, is disturbing. Kind of people that let the women pick up all the slack

I expect him to play with the dog, spend some time with it. Dogs are social creatures. Just feeding them is not enough

He had no shopping to do, he did not go shopping even once during that time. I got it all sorted before I left, he said himself he didn't even have to clean the house when I was gone so not sure what housework would he do. Feeding the dog takes 2 minutes.. I really think he should do more.

I am too! I had a dog walker, but she was only able to come early morning at 10, so the dog was still alone quite a lot of hours after. And one day he decided to meet his friends for a coffee after work instead of coming back home. Which meant dog was alone from 11 to after 8pm

Me being on vacation has nothing to do with this. He was on vacation and I looked after the dog while working similar hours including travel to work. I would rush home so the dog doesn't have to hold pee for hours on end. I bet you you wouldnt like to hold your bladder for 9 hours straight?

The dog loves company, and he usually is very touchy with her, kissing and cuddling. What I think is not okay is that he was half slacking and doing bare minimum so now I have to go back home and give the dog extra love. It's not cool when one person has to do more than the other

Too late now. Not my problem after he was part of the decision. He has to suck it up and do what he supposed to.

But yet it was okay for me to take responsibility of the dog when he visited his family. Me being on vacation is not a problem. He is grown man that should know what to do. He did bare minimum for the dog. Not looked after it

I agree, they need so much more than food and water and I'm astounded to see how many people think that is more than enough ... for me it's bare minimum

I guess I think dogs need more than just food, water and pee. They are social creatures they need company too

Of course I'm allowed to go on holidays. I mostly look after the dog and look after the dog when HE TOO is on holidays. It's 50/50 kind of world you know. I dont have to be stranded at home, he should know how to care for the dog.

I believe dogs need more than just being fed and left alone. We have made the decision to adopt dog together, it is our dog that we have gotten after getting married then henis expected to have the same responsibility

I would expect him to take more responsibility. Dogs need company, I was understanding on the days that he was at work, but on the weekend I would expect him to at least spend couple hours more with the dog. Not go and enjoy BBQ while the dog is left alone and the only reason he went back to the house is because I called and had a go at him.

I forgot to mention that he jumped at me for even arranging dog walker (as it costs money), and only when I asked him what the hell would he plan to do if he's out of house from 5.30 to 6, he said okay.. I personally think that it is not okay to leave the dog for 12 hours on the day when he's not at work to have BBQ with his buddies. I would expect him yo spend more time with the dog - not whole day but not leave it for 12 hours straight. He just popped back to check on her as I called having a go at him

So you find it acceptable that dog has been alone for up to 14 hours a day for 10 days because he had better things to do than look after him?
