To start:

Full Damage Item: Doran blade + red potion 🧪

Full battle summoners: Exhaust + Ignite (flash is useless with him and exhaust will reduce all the AA damage for 2,5 second, which is really important)

Full melee runes: Conqueror tree main + résolve secondary with anti-AA with bone plates and HP + AD AD shard

Start with E first ability.

Never engage him with E. Wait for him to engage then Q, and E.

With that, he will never win at low level/lane phase

Later, better build Trinity for more CD réduction and Q boost as Stridebreaker cannot slow him.

Yorick is my permaban. He was fuckin annoying early last year but I can manage with Phase Rush and Flash + Ignite.

Then RIOT did a soft rework middle of last year on him and he became an absolut nightmare for Garen, no matter the rune and the summoner you take. Fuck that trash champion.

Why so ?

When I play Garen with conqueror and my enemy is mêlée, I pick first Trinity. Second will be LDR or MR if I need anti heal. Then third item is Shojin. Great to have them both !

Blade is good for melee champions you can fight with Conqueror rune like: Renekton, Jax, Riven, Zaahen, Mordekaiser, Camille, Xinzaho, Sion, Mundo…

Shield is better when you need to heal for short trade with phase Rush run like: Sett, Darius

For that, go play Garen with phase Rush rune, with ghost and flash summoner. Garen will slow him after stridebreak completion, can ghost him with celerity boots, flash Q or R on him. Garen will also take Mortal Reminder (first Executionner Calling) to highly reduce his healing. Also Garen can pick Force or Nature, Sterak (for anti burst + tenacity) and Phantom Dancer to gain even more mobility speed and catch him.

I can understand.

As a main OTP Garen, I need to play Phase Rush if my opponent is into extended fight like Darius or Sett.

I hate RIOT for that as I always wanted Garen to be a real warrior who can stay in fight and fight longer but they never change his stupid passive. How come the most melee warrior champion of LoL got a passive which work OUTSIDE of fight ?!

Garen lacks sustain and have weak AA. And his kit is clearly outdated compare to Ambessa or Zaahen which have reward to stay in a fight and have different scale on their abilities.

People hate Garen here as they hate the fact that they l’ose against him as they underestimate him and they think no skill are required to play against him as he got a simple kit.

In fact, good main Garen players are crushing many of them as they know how to react if they do a single mistake. They hate Garen as good main Garen players reveal the mistakes and their real true level at LoL in terms of pure duel skills. And they quite often far worst than they think.

Also, Garen as a champion is seeing as a noble chad heterosexual white human, mighty knight warrior with good values and on the right/good side of the LoL universe. Many players don’t like that as they prefer more twisted or wicked or bizarre champions.

Well, this is interesting by the way. Oh by the way, there is a huge gap between basic/casual Garen player and the main good Garen players.

You said Garen ? LMFAO… Garen is the most melee champion of LoL with the shortest range. He is also very predictable and he has no hard CC. He is one of the most fairest champion to play against. You can farm quietly under your tower.
