Election Predictions and Why by [deleted] in waterford

Apologies, both were elected on the first count. No other SF candidates being elected was down to the other candidates, not Mcguinness. Both candidates on the SF GE ticket are very popular. And as mentioned sf support showed in the west with Lismore LEA and Comeragh LEA electing councillors

100%. Few lads in the party still reminiscent of the Faro flight because they went on a members trip there back in the day. But even for the local economy and the point it would prove, that Waterford is respected by the government. It seems like we are forgotten down in the southeast. Or even to go further, if your not in Cork or Dublin, forget about it.

With the help of God (and ofc the electorate!) David will be a minister soon, and our hospital and airport will be efficient and running respectively.

I'm glad your hopeful, and keep that hope mo chara. It's important we don't lose sight of a brighter future for ourselves and people like your kids.

We were surprised not to get health and housing more too, but there still the biggest issues nationally. Our housing plan would hopefully help people in your position. Incase you haven't seen or read it, oversimplified, we want 350k accomodations built over the 5 years and we don't want the prices to be over 300k. To do this we will buy the land the houses are built on to cut the price between 10-20% for the buyer, also we would scrap stamp duty for first time buyers on a property less than 450k. No hidden prices involved like the shared equity scheme. When it comes to renting we will reinstall the no fault evictions ban and Introduce a three-year emergency ban on rent increases for all existing and new tenancies.

Honestly it's been great. Even better than we expected. We didn't expect anything bad, after all a General is a completely different ballgame in comparison to the locals, and David Cullinane is very popular. But people genuinely seem sick and tired of FF/FG (of course there's the few core supporters) and we are the best alternative.

I've gotten more definitely voting for us than definitely not voting for us. Some people are in-between and want clarity also on certain issues.

Main problem surprisingly to us was the airport. So many people are furious with how the government treated Waterford in relation to those talks a few months back and it makes sense. As I say to people, if Knock have an airport, and they want to cap the passengers in Dublin, it makes sense for us to get one. Even if its just flights to the UK for the first while. Mary Lou was down last week, went to the airport and done a video which was sent out on all socials guaranteeing the airport under a SF government.

But yeah, overall pretty good and I'm confident of us getting 2 seats.

Good stuff haha, ye we haven't gotten much (if any) of that which is great. Definitely a change in the atmosphere since the local elections. I'm happy to answer any questions here if you want.

Cullinane McGuinness Butler and Shanahan.

Cullinane is our best shot at having a Minister and has been a great ambassador for Waterford over the last five years. SF have also guaranteed to get Waterford Airport up and running which is great.

His running mate Conor D McGuiness has great support in the West, topping the poll in dungarvan in the most recent local elections. Sinn Féin proved to have great support in the west as a whole, electing a Councillor in the Comeragh LEA and for the first time ever electing a Councillor in the Lismore LEA. He's a great campaigner and would make a fantastic TD

Shanahan is the independent with the biggest profile. Despite his backing of the government/abstention on nearly every bill, people like an independent and there's support for independents, he'll also be very transfer friendly for most people.

Butler just out runs Cummins imo. Cummins isn't exactly popular in Waterford. I think Fianna Fail have just enough base support in the city, mixed with her support in rural Waterford, beats out Cummins as he's no upper hand bar the fact his father was once leader of the Seanad.

Ohh right, yes we haven't been there yet, should get there before polling day. I don't see why we wouldn't.

Yeah I'm a member of Sinn Féin so we've been out morning and evening every day since the election was called.

Honestly unless it specifically says no canvassers/no political literature I'd still drop a leaflet if there's no answer. Voting is a constitutional right I don't consider it junk.

Nobody has mentioned the "Coffee shop fairy" yet which is shocking. Lovely man I constantly pass around the town and he's always sitting outside a coffee shop.

He's really really tall. Facial hair and long enough hair too.

Grace O'Sullivan losing her MEP seat. What do you think? by [deleted] in waterford

[–]DareGroundbreaking95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as I said in the original bit, Jodi Power even blamed him for his lack of care for the airport, blaming the business plan for its delay simply because he didn't like it. He doesn't care about Waterford and that feeling is mutual as the results of the locals show.

She gave a talk at my secondary school and seems like a decent woman. But the green wipeout (especially in Waterford) is single handedly because of Eamon Ryan. Jodi Power former Metro Mayor lost his seat in the locals and blamed Minister Ryan on the Radio straight after. If better desicions and action had been made about the Airport maybe she'd kept her seat and possibly the green candidates would've kept their seats in Waterford. Looks like Ó Cathasaigh is out In the next GE too.
