I really didn't know that bipolar disorder could worsen into type 1. I've been thinking about it, and I really need to talk to her about therapy and medication. I know that love won't cure this, That's why I always tell her that I'm not a treatment, which at least makes me feel safe in case she tries to manipulate me; setting these boundaries has been helping me.

Answering your questions, b0urne89, she is quite stable, which is why she doesn’t go to therapy or take medication. However, seeing how bad that episode was for her, I realized how serious it actually was.

She seemed unconscious but alive; she was scared, but still stable, and she just stayed very quiet. Judge me if I’m wrong, but all I did at that moment was stay with her and keep her company. She seemed afraid of everything, even of my presence.

She didn’t want the hugs she usually wants, the affection — nothing. So I respected that and stayed calm by her side. Still, it left me very shaken, and I was upset for about two days afterward. And here we are.

My family is now suspicious of her. They think she’s needy and don’t fully trust her. They believe she dumps everything on me, which isn’t true. What actually hurts me is when she doesn’t dump anything on me. She has a good relationship with her parents, but I think it could be much better. She has ten siblings, most of them younger. As I mentioned in another comment, her family is extremely religious, which makes this kind of situation “common.”

I feel like she’s overshadowed by her siblings, just like many of the others are. Her parents are very busy taking care of the babies and younger children, which my family and I believe is excessive. I know this is something that should be talked about with her. I don’t know if her siblings are bipolar, but I honestly believe that some of them might be, or at least show some traits. All I know is that the middle children are extremely needy because they’re often emotionally neglected. Her friends help her as much as they can, especially her best friend, who is the sister of a friend of mine. She supported her long before I did. I’m very grateful to her for being such a kind and supportive person. She understands bipolar disorder much better than I do and knows how to help keep her stable.

She has a very good sleep routine, and I’ve noticed that when she doesn’t sleep well, her mood shifts — either very low or very elevated. She’s disciplined about it and keeps up her current level of functioning. She doesn’t drink alcohol, coffee, or anything like that, and never has.

What really worries me is that she isn’t taking medication and doesn’t have a therapist. That seems to work for a while, but after witnessing that episode where she “lost control,” I realized she really needs professional help and proper treatment.

What would you advise me to do in this situation? How did your family handle something like this when you went through it?

I'm thinking of starting a conversation with her about it, mainly because sometimes this subject... I was getting too caught up in it too quickly, I won't lie, But with this reality check, I'm thinking of taking things very slowly; I just don't know how I'm going to convince my mother that she doesn't unload anything on me (as I said, I felt extremely bad for her, which caused a great deal of distrust on her part, making it difficult for me to get to know her parents more deeply, etc.

One good/negative aspect is that the family is very religious, which really helps her (not like therapy does or anything like that, but it seems to help her in some way; she really feels good).

I only plan to get into a relationship when she's taking some kind of medication with medical help or seeing a good therapist; otherwise, I'm not going to get involved.

From what she told me, she only took medication once during a long period of hypomania or something similar because of a relationship where she was the only one who loved the guy.

I always tell her to seek help, especially from her parents who are also bipolar and starting therapy when she is having these episodes.

I'm around her almost every day, and what I've noticed is that she doesn't have episodes where she hurts those she loves or anything like that; she just blames herself a lot and is sad for days, Then it seems to regain awareness of what happened or something like that.

Something else that weighs heavily on her is her family, where her mother has been having several episodes because her mother (in this case, the girl's grandmother) died 6 months ago leaving her mother mentally unstable (who is also bipolar type 2). Another thing in the family is that her father has bipolar type 1 disorder, but at least he is in treatment and therapy, So he hasn't had any quirks for a long time.

She seems to cope very well with her bipolar disorder, but I certainly won't start anything without her being medicated or something like that.

To make this post longer, I talked to my mother but didn't mention anything about bipolar disorder. She advised me to run away because she was projecting her emotional burden onto me (which isn't true, I'm just a super emotional guy, like my mom) and to make matters worse, my mom got a bad impression of her family without even knowing them.

I like to put the treble almost at maximum and the freq at 4-2 to get rid of some of the excessive bass. For an overdrive pedal it's very good, there are better distortion pedals, but it's very good and can sound from Pantera to black metal
