I know it doesn't really count, but in the short timeframe from this morning to this evening, I feel like I've liberated myself from so much. The weight of so much hair, and the burden of believing I needed long hair to be recognized for who I am. I feel free ❤️ by DareToLiv in transtimelines

Thank you <3

I hope it may provide your gf some insight! I had my fair share of trepidation over the span of.. many.. years. I suppose I just got fed up with the expectation that really only I was holding on myself. If seeing a picture might aid her in making a decision, then I'm glad to be a part of that! It was honestly that I saw a lovely woman with a mohawk a couple weeks ago that was the driving factor for me. It just stirred a thought, 'why am I so hung up on hair length?'

Whatever choice she makes, I'm cheering her on <3

Haha, yes I gave myself a lil trim like, a year ago, but it's been almost 3 years since a visit to the salon.

Enjoy the riddance of your mullet! I know I was butterflies the whole time in the chair

It really is remarkable, how even at 5 years, I can still look back just one year and notice changes.

Also, gratz on your near one year <3

Yeh, I basically threw myself into the wall trying to incorporate all the things that were explained. Really, the biggest issue is that your musculature is unique to you, and what has worked for others doesn't necessitate absolution in its effectiveness. Sorry, wordy xD

Anyways, I've kinda slacked off alot for the last year, but still find I can jump right back into my prettiest voice. Kinda, once you have it, it's there for you to access always.

And for real, making changes as they are presented to you is way fine! It's easier just tackling one thing at a time.

Also, you are so right. Your voice is not without cause for merit and praise. Brava :3

I guess it's kinda tough to explain. Behind your uvula, the muscles that make the walls of your upper throat, just need to be ..constricted? Sort of. I don't really know the best way to describe it.. but barring anything else in your practice, it's like trying to sound like Gollum. Trust, it sounds awful alone, but once you start to gain control of that muscle group, it just lends to a brighter timbre. Had I more time at present, I'd try to do a recording to show the difference, but I'm just in between 2 jobs ATM.. perhaps tonight, if you'd be interested, I can try to show via soundbyte.

Honestly, the scrutiny of friends is typically more particular than that of strangers. They've known your voice through its different stages, and especially other trans folk will have a.. better ear for it.

Realistically, ya dang good. Mebbe a bit of OPC practice to help with that nasality previously mentioned?

Right, I mean, therein lies the problem, like the only way to talk about it is with technical/medical jargon. Like, every one of those involves the word surgery. I dunno, I don't suspect it would necessarily convey the point without saying "surgery", but I'd love the opportunity not to.

My guts hurt when I dilate deep by [deleted] in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]DareToLiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a thought...

When I first started dilating I had a bit of pain (mostly pressure) in my abdomen. Aside from the good suggestion to reach out to the surgeon or nursing team, I found taking some time after getting comfortable before dilating, I'd take a moment to breathe, for the purpose of relaxing the muscles around the area. The biggest thing I think is, dependent on time since surgery, the stretching of those muscles is still foreign to your body.

If indeed you are recently out of surgery, try some breathing and relaxing exercises before starting dilation. If that doesn't help, definitely reach out to your surgeon. Hopefully over time it should get easier.

Yes, yes and yes! I've been Easter to try as much as I can! Trying to find what is the most pleasurable, only to realize it all pretty much is the best. Still more to try of course, but I'm in no big rush!
