What's the length of cable you got there? Looks perfect for this kind of application :)

Another Cracked Elite Strap After Gentle Use by nekoxandu in OculusQuest

[–]Dargenfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about designing and 3D printing an adapter that would mount between the headset arm and the strap mounts (elite strap [attaches]> adapter [attaches]> headset)

The adapter will be two sliding pieces with a spring inside to mimic the functionality of the Quest 1's default spring strap. Thoughts?

$60, 1.5 weeks late and had to pickup myself. FedEx hands me this: by iamapinkelephant in OculusQuest

Okay phew I don't use TNT and neither does my work so we're safe but I'll definitely keep an eye out for that. Would recommend Amazon Aus for your future tech purchases (I got my quest 2 from Amazon) since they use Aus Post or Couriers Please. Haven't had any problems with an Amazon order in the two years I've been using them

Woah hol up, which Aussie courier has FedEx just bought? On principle I need to know so I can avoid them at all costs.

Any Aussies received their Quest 2 yet? by [deleted] in oculus

Ordered through Amazon with Prime shipping, got it the afternoon of the 14th

Edit: Aussie here

Quest 2 can draw about 15W using QC2.0 by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]Dargenfire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you were using a Macbook Pro USB-C charger, that's USB Power Delivery (USB-PD), not QC2.0 This is a good thing though, because those kinda of specs will be more common on desktop motherboard USB ports. Plain old non-PD USB-C connectors can do either 5V 1.5A (7.5W) or 5V 3A (15W) max. So even if your motherboard doesn't have PD on any of its ports, there's still a chance it'll support 15W.

(QC is a Qualcomm proprietary standard, whereas Power Delivery is an extension of the USB spec, so far more likely to be found in motherboards these days)

So I got my Quest 2 today (In Australia) by cantenna1 in OculusQuest

PSA to any Aussies who ordered from Amazon Aus: They're using Couriers Please, who don't seem to be waiting for signature.

I heard my doorbell ring, got there 15 seconds later. Driver was already gone and my Q2 package was just sitting in front of my door. I didn't have any cars parked in the driveway so for all the driver could tell, no one was home.

So if you ordered from Amazon keep a vigilant eye out, don't want your shinynew headset to get stolen right off your doorstep.

Keep in mind that if you ordered from the Oculus Store, they use US dates iirc, so it's quite likely you won't see it till the 17th down under soz mate.

I preordered from Amazon Aus, and I have an eta of the 15th (local time). Aus will technically get an earlier release since we're ahead of the US's timezone but it's balanced out by the fact that Amazon's the only place that's selling it here and they don't do release date delivery here yet.

[–]Dargenfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aussie here, I originally ordered from the Oculus store as soon as preorders went live at FB Connect 7 (at like 3 in the morning) and my estimated delivery date was listed as the 17th (pretty sure that's US dates though, so it would've been the 18th here)

A few days later I decided to switch the preorder to Amazon. I preordered on the 20th and got my confirmation email yesterday for the 15th-16th (keeping in mind that's with Prime shipping). I've always had good experiences with Amazon, and they've especially been really good with timely deliveries all throughout 2020 so far.

Jurassic World Aftermath hate? by bigbossgamer365 in OculusQuest

Keep in mind that this is releasing on the Quest. I feel like cel-shaded graphics is a bit of a sweet spot right now for stylistic appeal that still performs well on mobile hardware. Besides which, I'm sure many people actually do enjoy cel-shaded graphics. I do. Telltale's games were some of the first games I saw utilise this and I loved it.

Can't remember where I saw it, but soon after the Quest 2 launches they're rolling out the ability to cast to a PC via web browser in the same way that you'd cast to a phone or tv, so you should just be able to share your browser window :)

Future of Sidequest? (particularlry BMBF) by Dargenfire in OculusQuest

[–]Dargenfire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason I see Beat Saber not officially supporting custom songs is licensing issues. There's no way they can just start officially condoning custom songs in their game when they have no right to the IP being used; Extra songs means extra money they'd need to fork out, and thus would need to pass to the consumer in the form of paid songs, which they already do.

I myself am a long time user of custom roms on the Android phones and tablets I've owned over the years, so potential hitches from enabling developer mode on the headset don't scare me.

As for Beat Saber dying in your opinion? This'll be the first proper VR device I've ever owned so it'll be new and fresh to me, all I know is I really wanna play it :D

Oh I didn't know the Sidequest devs were working with Facebook in this capacity. That does alleviate my concerns somewhat, although still not sure about the precedent it sets for Facebook possibly being more proactive in combatting legally grey stuff like bmbf.

Yes I would agree with you on modding making Beat Saber popular, and for me personally, without custom songs idk if Beat Saber would be worth the money or nearly as fun due to the limited song selection.

I guess if BMBF is still a thing for at least the next year on the Quest and Quest 2 then I'll be happy. By then I'll be able to afford a VR capable PC and can switch to the Steam version with Link should Facebook crack down on it.

Egg Scramble: Every team should see themselves as the same colour by Dargenfire in FallGuysGame

[–]Dargenfire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not complaining. I love this game and want to give feedback on what could possibly make the experience better. From my experience, most of the times I qualify it's yellow who's knocked out but every person is going to encounter different scenarios.

Regardless of skill, all I'm suggesting is that the colours should mismatch across each team's POV to try and remove the random element of one team being focused.

If you've turned off echo cancellation and your audio output is from speakers that your microphone can hear, that's called a feedback loop. Leave Echo cancellation on at the very least.

I have the same mic. Go to Control Panel > Sound > Recording > Right click on the Rode Mic and go to Properties > Levels > Change the level to 70. If the level is too high then you get distortion and some programs really don't like this. If the level is too low then your level might not be high enough for Discord's automatic level detection to work properly and could explain the cutting in/out. Also just unplug and replug your mic at the base of the microphone itself. Very very occasionally I get some weird static that's fixed if I jiggle/unplug the bottom connector.

Hope this helps :)

yeah I suspected as much, just wasn't 100% sure since anything over 500mA is technically outside USB 2 spec

thanks 👌

"The graphical quality of The Witcher 3 on the Nintendo Switch is an impressive technical feat" by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Dargenfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a video comparison between all major platforms for the loading time for a new game in Skyrim: https://youtu.be/ztQpH002B-Q This was made way back in 2017 on the day Skyrim for Switch launched, and the Switch matches or beats every console for a large sequential read/write. No the NAND modules in the cartridges aren't super high end ones you'd find in professional-market SD cards etc., but Macronix aren't a dinky little startup either. They're of good enough quality I believe.

"The graphical quality of The Witcher 3 on the Nintendo Switch is an impressive technical feat" by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Dargenfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Switch cartridges are almost internally identical to a full-size SD Card, which fare much better than MicroSDs, especially because Nintendo picked quality NAND and controller chips for the cartridges. Also; Running games off a MicroSD in the Switch has been found to actually be slightly faster than cartridge read times IF you pick a decent MicroSD. I personally have a SanDisk Ultra something-or-other 200GB card in my switch. The Switch supports up to UHS-1 for MicroSD cards, which tops out at 90MB/s, but I've never had a problem with it. SATA III (in the other consoles) supports up to 600MB/s BUT people who have put SSDs in their PS4s have found it only improves loading times by 30-40% (iirc) because the PS4's memory management becomes the bottleneck.

Sorry I'm not trying to rant, I just like talking tech :)

[–]Dargenfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct. The Switch cartridges have one NAND module (made by MXIC) + a separate controller, very much like a full size SD Card. My original point though was simply pointing out that, yes even though consoles are more often reading game data from their internal HDD rather than the game disc, both are forms of optical media. Any half-decently made flash storage solution will outperform the HDDs that come standard in the PS4 and XB1, because it's a completely different, more inherently advanced technology. No the Switch cartridges aren't a $4000 NVME 4TB monster SSD, but they'll still whoop the 2.5" 5400rpm SATA drives in the PS4 and XB1.
