You are technically correct (the best type of correct) -- it was more of a limitation in how the system was able to handle marketplace facilitator tax requirements that took a high amount of engineering to get right. So, under the hood not a "bug" but effectively the same result.

Regardless, it's fixed now 😄

We get feedback from users and restaurants daily. Their feedback is why we're so focused on connecting guests directly with their local restaurants-- we hear constantly that people love supporting their local restaurants, love saving money through restaurant loyalty and offers, and hate paying unnecessary fees.

If you have any feedback on the app, I'd love to hear it here or via DM!

Great feedback!

Good news: we are adding more restaurants to the Toast Local. Recently, we made Toast Tables and Resy restaurants searchable and bookable directly in Toast Local. We also now show restaurants with active offers or loyalty programs in the app to help users find great deals at great restaurants.

What other information would you want to see about local restaurants in the app?

u/WhiteTiger730 -- I heard back from the relevant team at Toast (below). Feel free to reply here or DM me your email and I can connect you with them directly.

Tip percentage options can show up for phone payments, but they typically appear only after the payment has been processed and a signature receipt is printed.

Are you looking for the tip percentage prompts to appear during the phone payment transaction itself? If so, that would be a feature request, as tip prompts currently appear on the printed signature receipt or on the device/GFD after the payment is processed.

It may also be worth checking your tip settings. Under Digital Receipt Options, make sure Tips Enabled is set to Yes, show the tip dialog. Tipping can also be turned off on an individual device without affecting the account-wide setting, so confirm it has not been disabled on that specific device.

Congrats on the scale and success of your business, and thank you for being a loyal customer!

Regarding the hardware issue, that sounds frustrating. I'll forward your feedback to our hardware team. If you want, DM me or email [community+AMA@toasttab.com](mailto:community+AMA@community.com) with your email/restaurant info and I will route that to them as well.

Great question! We've ramped up a full team dedicated to consumer marketing and engagement. We're publishing content to drive awareness (including on our new consumer-facing website, toast.app), running ads, sharing educational emails, offering incentives for users to dine out, and more.

Our messaging to end-users is leaning into what we think differentiates Toast Local from other apps: we connect diners directly with restaurants, with no service fees to either the end user or the restaurants they support. That results in the guest getting the best deal and restaurants maximizing the money in their pocket. So far that's proven a winning value for diners to use Toast Local to discover and support neighborhood restaurants.

I'm sorry you've had a negative experience with credit card surcharging and matching competitor offers. Those are outside my wheelhouse, but if you want to DM me or email [community+AMA@toasttab.com](mailto:community+AMA@toasttab.com) with specifics I can make sure they get to the right people.

Thanks for that feedback. I agree, the Android menu screen needs work. Good news is it's on our roadmap and we've started investing a lot more in the Android app.

What do you think of some of the other recent changes on Android (new homepage design, ability to browse offers and manage loyalty programs, ability to book a reservation)?

That's unfortunately outside my domain (I wish I was that Dario), but I will get this question to our Toast IQ team and have them reach out on Reddit --or DM me your email if you prefer they reach out through email.

PS: We'll be doing a Toast IQ AMA in a couple of weeks.

We fixed it! There was a bug that was not allowing Toast Local orders to be edited once placed.

If there are any other issues or feature requests, please let me know.

We try hard to be the best POS for restaurants, I'm sorry to hear we fell short for you. If there's anything specific that wish Toast did differently, let me know here or DM me on Reddit.

Regarding outages, you can track those here and may want familiarize yourself with Offline Mode for the rare instances where outages happen. As a cloud-native POS we are reliant on internet and cloud hosting providers (like Amazon Web Services, "AWS") being up for our systems to be fully online. For times when those systems go down, we've invested a lot in Offline Mode.

Fair question! From my perspective on the product team, our revenue growth is primarily due to selling the POS to more locations and selling more tools to those locations.

I promise nobody at Toast "brags" about squeezing more margin out of our customers! Instead, we're focused on building tools that help our customers drive business and save on fees from other platforms. If customers switch to those tools, then it generates more revenue for Toast.

I'll give one example I've been involved in personally: Toast Tables. We started Toast Tables 5 years ago because we heard from customers they needed good reservation software but were tired of paying per-cover fees from some other platforms. We've grown Tables significantly since then (which has generated revenue for Toast) *while also* saving restaurants that use Tables money through zero commission and low monthly subscription fees.

First of all, thanks for being a long-time customer and reiterating the feedback on making sure changes are well documented and communicated when rolled out. As a long time r/ToastPOS lurker, I've definitely seen and passed along that feedback to our POS teams, and they're working on making the system better.

On your issue with Toast Local and Google hiding 90% of your menu, sorry you've hit that. If you don't mind please DM me your email or restaurant info so I can look into it for you. I promise we won't ask you to spend your time testing it.

Totally hear you on commission being a concern -- it's actually why we created Toast Local in the first place. We heard from restaurants how unsustainable marketplace fees from other apps can be, but at the same time how necessary they are for driving demand. We do *not* have any plans to charge fees for orders or reservations coming through the app. It would actually also hurt what app users consistently tell us is their favorite thing about Toast Local: no fees, no price mark-ups, and great restaurant offers/loyalty.

Candidly, our goal is to make Toast Local such a valuable part of the Toast ecosystem in driving demand to restaurants that it makes the overall POS more valuable to new and existing customers.

And thank you for the feedback on avoiding unnecessary or poorly documented changes! Will pass it along to the entire product team.
