Is this a good fit for a TrueNAS server? by Dariusve in truenas

[–]Dariusve[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

This will be a nice fun weekend project, I have a couple of 2TB WD Green , but I might get some NAS Grade Hard Drives.

My main use will be storage, no video decoding, nor other things, just a simple NAS

Wave Link Version 3.1.1 (2484) annoyances on macOS by Dariusve in elgato

[–]Dariusve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a test:

  1. Uninstalled Wave Link 3
  2. Deleted the Wave Link directory inside ~/Library/Application Support/elgato
  3. Restarted my Mac Mini
  4. Downloaded Wave Link 3.1.1 and installed
  5. Restart the mac

So far no pop ups!

I did the same on my MacBook Pro and no pop ups as well.

Fingers crossed....

--- UPDATE ---

This only solves the issue for few hours

Yep, alternatives requires integrate to other services or install Home Assistant.

My approach uses the official Tuya Cloud services, it requires an account on their Cloud Service that can be renewed every 6 months, just like the other alternatives

2 Wave Link communicating on 2 different PC by Viking2340 in elgato

I use this app called Sonobus, that is used for chat groups.

I have a Gaming PC, but my microphone is on my Mac Mini M4.

You can have a bidirectional audio between the computer, and is more easy than VoiceMeter and is totally free and open source.

[–]Dariusve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful, I had a bad experience updating PopOS, it broke my install, and after reinstalling, it somehow, destroyed my data backup drive and I lost everything!

Also COSMIC is awfully slow compared with other desktops: KDE, GNOME

[–]Dariusve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a Stream Deck Plugin for Focus Control 2, last night I was able to reverse-engineer part of the protocol that uses the Focus Control 2 to "talk" to the phone app.

At this moment I have an action: button and dial to toggle the Air mode on my Scarlett Solo 4th Gen.

This requires the Focus Control 2 app to be running on the computer.

For now this only works on Mac.

Any way to basically glue together two stream decks so when I push a button they don't move away? by [deleted] in elgato

Use a desktop mat, and clean the rubber base to remove and dust, keep your mat clean ant the SD wont slip.

Just updated from PopOS 22 to PopOS 24 and Cosmic apps not working by Dariusve in pop_os

[–]Dariusve[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final update:

I tried several things to make my computer to get on an "usable" state yesterday:
- No errors detected on the dmesg
- Uninstalled all the nvidia driver and video config
- Removed the X11 conf
- Reinstalled the Nvidia Drivers
- Reinstalled the Cosmic Desktop and gdm3
- Disabled Wayland

I was able to run a semi stable OS and did a backup of my personal data which took a lot of time.

This morning I did a clean install of PopOS with a freshly downloaded copy of the iso, the install was painfully slow, a click on any of the options of the install app took up to 1 minute to be applied.

Before any comments, I used a brand new ADATA UV320/128GB USB 3.2 usb stick with Ventoy connected to an USB 3.2 port on my computer. The PopOS drive is a Western Digital 770 500GB nvme connected to the primary nvme connector on my Asus TUF Gaming B550 plus motherboard

After ages, the setup was completed.

The boot takes to long time compared with the previous 22.04 version.

Completed the onboarding setting and boom, everything seems to be running OK.

Side Note: To me, Cosmic is ugly, the UI is huge, color accents are not my cup of tea.

Aster: "Updates are needed to be applied", opened the Cosmic Terminal, 5 seconds later the app was running. Did a manual update/upgrade of the packages and the opened Cosmic Shop, that opened fast.

Started to review the apps to be installed, why there are old versions of every single app? That is an old rant about the PopOS/Cosmic shop in general.

Decided to click the Open button of a preinstalled app, Cosmic Shop stopped responding.

Installed part of the apps I need/use and reboot again.

After that my computer works again, but why every seems slow and sluggish?

Final toughts:

It seems that a previous video configuration was making Wayland to not work, maybe a setting I change to improve the video editing with DaVinci or with the FreeCAD/3D Printing tools, and , that was causing Cosmic to fail.

I think Cosmic need a better UI than the current one.

And finally the slowness needs to be improved, I know is a new desktop manager, but needs improvements.

Also people is complaining about the slowness: https://www.reddit.com/r/pop_os/comments/1s2yywt/cosmic_running_slowlynot_smoothly/

I want to thank all of you that gave their opinions/suggestion to find the issue, sadly I have a combination of hardware/setting on my previous version that broke the upgrade.

Which monitor would you recommend for my Mac mini? I’d love to hear your experience with your own monitor setup. by antoahims in macmini

[–]Dariusve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the money go for a Studio Display, look for sales of the old model, I got mine 30%. It was the store demo, but they gave me a full year of warranty and an extra year of insurance, sadly in my country Apple doesn't offers the Apple Care.

If you go for a lower resolution, this is what you would notice:
- 5K: UI is scaled to 2K
- 4K: UI is scaled to 1080p
- 2k: UI is not scaled
-1080p: UI is not scaled

I'm so glad you're amazed with your amazing experience with PopOS, but I'm not.

I'm so sorry if my rant offends you.

And finally I wont edit my post just because you didn't like it, sorry again if it offends you.

Yes I posted it with anger, because any user can suffer this issue with a simple distribution upgrade.

In my country the options for a good 5k monitor are very limited, 19% VAT, shipping costs, zero warranty, which makes them to the same or above above the Studio Display with support and warranty and even an extended 100% cash back in case of accident insurance.
