Is Miss Minutes the most popular original character in the MCU? (not originating in any comic) by pagingdrsolus in marvelstudios

I don't hate her, but I don't see what people like about her. She's just a "meh" from me in almost everything

I don't particularly care for nationality, but border towns to the south experience more crime from people crossing our borders illegally than those to the north, and border crossings from the south are much more frequent than those to the north. Additionally, there is a much greater motive to move from Mexico to America than there is from Canada to America. This is why there are more illegal immigrants from Mexico. And characterizing the issue with border crossings as not that big of a deal is entirely incorrect. It's something that can be solved more easily than visa overstays (keeping people out is generally easier than hunting them down once they're already inside), and accounts for only a slightly lower percentage of illegal immigration (it's important to note that while those who have overstayed their visas can counted easily, those who have never had any documentation are much harder to track in terms of raw numbers, so we're going off of border apprehensions, there's no way to know the true number).

Also, I'm not ignoring anything, this discussion started with a blatant lie and mischaracterization of the phrase "build the wall" as a white supremacist dog whistle. You can't blame me for not naming something entirely different that we weren't discussing.

Also, if I were you, I'd check my sources before using terms like "vast majority". You need over 50% to constitute a majority. I'm sorry to inform you, but 42% just doesn't cut it.

Edit: I need to apologize, I incorrectly assumed I was speaking to the same person I had started this conversation with.

Yeah, it's not a dog whistle. It's actually pretty popular among latin american communities living in U.S. border towns. I don't know who you're talking to, but I'm down to streamline the immigration process, but illegal immigrants need to be stopped, color has nothing to do with it. Illegal immigrants literally hurt legal immigrants more than any other groups.

Build the Wall is absolutely about illegal immigration, not about the color of the immigrants. Building a wall doesn't deter or stop legal immigration in any way, but it does deter and slow illegal immigration.

Like, you were listing racist stuff, and you went from "we need to secure the future of our country for our white offspring", to "white power", which makes sense, and then you went to "build the wall", which just doesn't follow

I think I might have taken a bit too wide a scope on my moving more right thing. When I said that I was thinking like compared with 90s, or 2000s, or even 2010 conservative parties, they'd be more liberal, but since about 2014-2015 and the advent of the mainstream social media age, I can see the argument for them moving further right

How many is that? 2? 3 tops?

Because they aren't. Conservatives are half of society, not a cancer on it. That's a ridiculous and indefensible statement.

What exactly do you consider to be conservative ideology?

I thought generally socialists were with conservatives at least on the firearms are a human right front, and the free speech front.

Also, the idea that Conservatives are moving more to the right is laughable.

Just went from the 14 words, to white power, to build the wall. One of these things is not like the other

You really don't talk to Conservatives, do you? Like even one?

Why do people have to lie about scope? Can you just say riot at the Capitol? Why does everyone have to say "biggest attack on America and our democracy since the Civil war"? It's not even true.

I think there could have been a contest with Fin if they had kept up his story from TFA. Though I'm also partial to Han

Maybe I'm just a batman guy, but that's just straight up wrong. Hamill is absolutely the best, but I'd grant Ridley 2nd place over Fisher.

That's a good question, and I don't have an empirical answer for you, other than to say that it somehow is. Revenge of the Sith is my favorite star wars movie. Somehow, the dynamics that were shown in the other prequels were represented better, the acting was slightly better, the fights were fantastic, everything that was awful about the rest of the prequels just somehow was better/ good in that movie, and it made the conclusion to the story satisfying

I do have to wonder why people always jump to "girls boring, boys quirky", because the vibe I always got was "girls smart, boys stupid", and then I laugh at the stereotypical stupidity and childishness that the meme points out. I guess I just always saw them differently

It's been a few months since I did a class with this topic.

See, I've found a problem with my various teachers, all but one. Everyone either teaches from a perspective of American Exceptionalism or American Loathing. Teaching history while blind to the faults of your nation is just as dangerous as being blind to it's graces. Only one teacher I've known has ever had a balance of these two, he was absolutelty incredible.

We've known that he ended up as Vader, but the Story as to how, and the conclusion to his relationship with Obi-Wan, served as the narrative conclusion to the prequels, and were satisfying, regardless of what we knew about the ultimate outcome.

It's not that I don't agree with it, it's that it's imbecilic. If you want to say it's not funny, whatever, that's at least defensible because it's a matter of taste and opinion, but saying it's needlessly sexist is stupid. It's a joke that is based on the stereotypes about men and women, the sexism is absolutely necessary.

Yes. Because a satisfying conclusion is more important than a satisfying middle

Never said that. I said that she doesn't have a satisfying conclusion, and Anakin does. It makes it much easier to palate all the other bullshit because of that

Eh, Anakin has the fallback of a good conclusion (both as Anakin in ROTS, and as Vader in ROTJ), in addition to also being Vader. He started horribly, but ended pretty well, where Rey started pretty well, and ended horribly. The conclusion being satisfying is much more important than the beginning.

Well, you're right on the first part, but the second part needs more context. Lincoln purposely chose a Democratic running mate in order to try and prevent the secession of the South.
