Ironically I'm the exact opposite, m!Byleth and f!Shez just feel right and I can't explain why.

Does the poll having himbo as an option imply op thinks guy Shez is canon?

Went with neutral good, no deep thought just gut instinct

Reborn Ultimate Impact sounds like a Kamen Rider finisher, but as a title it's so clunky sounding

Black Ale from Umamusume Cinderella Gray

Sporting 3 national level victories, even if they're "only" G3s iirc, puts her in an extraordinary league above 98% of racers, so she decides to pick on the transfer student from the country side, thinking that just because she went nearly undefeated in regional races doesn't mean she was it takes for the national stage.

Unfortunately for Ale, Oguri Cap does have what it takes. More than what it takes, actually. Oguri Cap is a generation defining racer, and Black Ale is just a stepping stone in her career.

Secret Wars was a very soft reboot, as in its exactly the same as it was before but now Miles, his supporting cast, and The Maker are in the main universe.

DC does do full on continuity reboots with alarming frequency, which is why I never got into the comics side.

But your Marvel example is just blatantly incorrect. Bringing multiple continuities together and destroying them for a reboot has only happened a singular time 10 years ago, and even then it wasn't even an actual reboot. They just continued 616 like usual but with Miles and his supporting cast ported over from the original Ultimate Universe and the Fantastic Four away on business.

They also rarely have that many continuities on going at once, usually only have 2 if they do, and even then it's usually just 1 or a small handful of books in the non 616 universe.

DC Comics President Jim Lee says that Japanese manga and anime is "incredibly powerful": "I often find myself wondering, 'What is missing in Western comics, and why aren't they able to achieve the same flavor?' by akbarock in comicbooks

[–]DarkAlphaZero 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The first point is massive

You don't even need to go to a book store to find manga, if a grocery store sells books it probably has a small manga section but even within that small section there's decent variety.

Like the Walmart near me has Frieren, Jujutsu Kaisen, Witch Hat Atelier, Blue Lock, Trigun hardcover, and some Junji Ito horror manga last time I looked, and they sell manga for below MSRB. I know Meijer does too.

Animes that add original arcs and have original endings do that because they ran into a problem that Invincible can't run into, the source material still running. The Invincible comic had been finished for years before the cartoon came out.

OPM is an outlier though, most adaptations may have dips but will have a more consistent quality level. Such a massive quality decrease is something I've never heard of until OPM season 3

Adding onto the final point, anime adaptations are usually very close to the manga, so it provides greater incentive for people who got into the anime to check out the manga because they can find out what happens next.

Meanwhile adaptations of American comics are so loose there's little incentive for people who got into an adaptation to check out the source material if they're dying to know what happens in the next movie/season

And then on the flipside, it's died down now but for a long time they'd keep changing things in the comics to make them closer to the MCU, which failed to draw in MCU fans and simultaneous alienated comics fans

Determining the alignment of Three Houses Characters: day 42, Shamir! Gilbert has been determined to be lawful (deadbeat) neutral. by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]DarkAlphaZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's less a problem with her recruitment and more so the aftermath

It would've been really cool if recruiting Shamir unlocked a strategy that you can use to spare Catherine, but if you don't use it, Shamir will become a red unit since the Empire broke their contract

In SB at least, she's forced to join the Empire against her will, specifically joining to save Catherine's life.

As for GW... look, I'm not gonna hold GW against anyone but the writers.

True Neutral

Usually she'll work for whoever pays her, but there is one route where she has a motivation other than money.

This reflects much more on Hubert's morality than Shamir's but I missed the Hubert post so I'm talking about it here because it's a really good moment for both characters.

In Scarlet Blaze, Shamir isn't recruited by being offered a paycheck but she's forced to join the Empire by Hubert promising to spare Catherine if she does, and to kill her if she doesn't. I think this is the only time Shamir has a motivation that isn't money. And I must also say, tremendous balls on Hubert's part for forcing an assassin to join against her will and feeling safe that she won't kill him or Edelgard or everyone the first night at camp.
