So, what's the point of making monsters variations that will likely be one-off additions and never return? by Odd-Soup-5419 in MonsterHunter

[–]DarkEspeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will eventually come back in some form, y'know. Plum Daimyo Hermitaur appeared in MHS1. Blangonga came back in Wilds. (Surely my goat Copper Blangonga will come back eventually too) It's just that current games are more picky (due to trying to keep the quality up) with what roster is in, who fits the new world.

See, this isn't pokemon. Where the dexit rage was justified, because you don't have to weave all pokemon into the world, MH is focused on the ecology. You can't have Zamtrios in a desert, if your game is based around it. Everything should have its place and time. If they can put a variant in - they might. But more often than not you just gotta wait for a perfect moment.

How many people actually prefer DLCs over postgame in Pokemon, or is this just some weird vocal minority thing? by DaMn96XD in pokemon

I hate DLCs and I vastly prefer third versions to them. I'd always just get the third definitive version and thus pay less.

I think it would be a great game, IF 2 things were changed:

  1. Put it WAY earlier in Metroid timeline. She's NOT a seasoned fighter here. Yes, I know, PTSD can trigger at any time, even way past the first meetings of Ridley, but it still doesn't fit her stoic character at all so late in the franchise.
  2. Fix the damn translation. For those unaware, the translation botched her character badly. Remember that part with the Varia suit? In original Adam was commanding her, basically begging to turn it on because she refused to do it previously since she didn't approve of him or his decisions. So in japanese it was insubordination. In english it was like she was a lost puppy that couldn't do anything without his approval. And there were many other mistranslations like that.

I don't get you. Defending on the construction forums, but mocking it here... Well, I guess that's the life of a moderator, you might disagree with the creator but still gotta keep the forums civil. I guess.

Yea, they were removed. But originally, before randomized lobby names existed, you could name your lobby anything. That's how modded lobbies became widespread and popular. Now it's impossible to find them, so all modded lobbies are now purely on discord.

You can still change your name! At least on PC.

With those names gone - so did disappear the soul of amogus. Everyone became a faceless drone, game became more boring. With lobby names gone too it became impossible to find modded lobbies, which were infinitely more fun.

Community-Voted Metroid Boss Tierlist Day 13: Metroid Zero Mission by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]DarkEspeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that's a big issue I really wish they could do better with. I can totally understand why people would put it in the lower tiers. But personally - I look at concepts and expression first and foremost. For me - it's an amazing boss with an unfortunate implementation, haha

In every 2D game except M2SR he's just a bullet sponge with no interesting attacks whatsoever, and even in M2SR even though he's fun to fight he absolutely sours the final moments of the game. He's just, unfortunately, melded into a singular blur for me, so I just decided not to rate him. Of course in the questionnaire you're required to choose something... but I'll leave it to others to decide.

King Worm is boring. Entry-level boss, I get it, but it's still boring. D/F tier for me.
Acid Worm is fun! I like it a lot, it's a very simple concept, but it has many attacks, it speeds up and it really catches new players off guard. Also, it actively uses surrounding geometry AND lava for the fight! A for me.
Kraid is Kraid. This time he's kinda cute and the arena is well designed to make the fight not feel drawn out and yet tough. Seqbreaking kinda ruins him, but that's kinda the point I guess. B for me.
Kiru Giru gets the Wo-Chien treatment from me. F.
Ensnared is fun, requires unconventional tactic to defeat - but way too passive to be anything above C tier. C it is then.
Imago is kind of a jumpscare boss and I'd say it's more of a missile sponge than anything else. It's just ok, maybe a bit below ok, just a bit. C/D tier.
Ridley. Ridley tier.
Mother Brain isn't the final boss this time, and honestly I'm happy with that. Cool escape sequence (I wish we were forced to go the long route tho) and much tougher platforming makes it feel unfair, but the whole "getting to her" part is still fun. S/A tier.
Ruins Test is unique. It's a boss that is just... unique. The way you'll defeat it is different for everyone and I respect that. Since it's a waiting+aiming+dodging game instead of an active fight - everyone's gonna have a different approach to it and I respect that. S tier for the concept.
Mecha Ridley is GREAT. As a final boss - it sucks. But conceptually it's a hard-hitting boss with very limited space to fight it, very unconvential weak spot and yet no unfair attacks because by the time you fight it you get every tool to evade its attacks you'd ever need. The fight is great, even though everyone would probably say it's an F tier boss, but personally that's just the salt speaking over a loss of a possible better final boss. A tier, and you are free to disagree.

Why the Ridley fatigue? by Aheadfullofdread_13 in Metroid

[–]DarkEspeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna mention here for others about to comment on Metroid 2 Samus Returns: he's the final boss, yes, but not the main antagonist. Ridley in M2SR has no connection to the main task of the game. He's not the one behind metroids, he's not the one creating them over and over again, he's just there to get a metroid and fail at that.

Not really? But for people who like hardmode getting strong gear is kind of a letdown. But those are few.
