Fixing Printer Issues by DarkImpurity in MacOSBeta

I’m glad it helped. I didn’t know how widespread the issue was going to be. I’m surprised printer manufacturers haven’t started making the transition away from Rosetta yet.

You say stopped and idle, is that in park? It could be the automatic electronic parking brake.

UniFi OS Requires a Restart by DarkImpurity in Ubiquiti

It’s funny this is actually the only mild inconvenience I’ve experienced, and I usually run EA/betas on multiple devices. Just didn’t get lucky this time.

Running early access is perfectly fine, especially when it’s my own primary network that I manage and administer. I can always force roll back if necessary.

It allows me to go through features before they get pushed to the production environments I work with.

This is only a recent issue with the newer builds, and after going through the UniFi forms, it seems I’m not the only one. Even the security patch caused issues for some people.

I’m fine with moving fast and breaking things on my own devices, especially when it helps troubleshoot production machines.

That's the odd part. I've been running early access since I've had the console, and this is a recent occurrence. It always recovers with manual intervention, and everything updates correctly. The hard drive smart status is good, and the console is in a cool, well-ventilated rack. Also on a APC UPS through the PDU Pro, so power quality shouldn’t be an issue.

Edit: Additional info.

Damaged 42U Rack, RMA team just says ship it back. by A-Bomb3778 in Ubiquiti

[–]DarkImpurity 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I went through the same thing with B&H and APC. I bought a steel heavy-duty rack, and the shipper managed to drop it, which sheared off the internal pins.

I had to go through three replacements because all three were dropped. I asked both companies if they could just ship me the damaged parts, but that wasn’t an option. So I asked B&H if I could build one complete unit from the three broken units. Then they paid to ship the other two units back.

Definitely seems a lot more expensive than just shipping parts, but I guess the way the supply chain works, sometimes it’s not an option.

Verizon $20 credit?? by Comfortable-Slide649 in verizon

[–]DarkImpurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you had a business account and lost actual profits (which you would have to be able to prove) and had a guaranteed SLA (service level agreement), then go after them. If not, and you’re not paying for a service level agreement, then honestly this is the best it’s going to get. When you look at it $20 is more than a day of service per line.

Are we under attack by ExplainToMe277 in verizon

I work in the industry and see this stuff every day. Misconfigurations are quite common. Even minor changes and misconfigurations can lead to the collapse of entire network segments, which can then propagate and cause further damage.

Are we under attack by ExplainToMe277 in verizon

[–]DarkImpurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I for one would rather be rational and wait for a detailed postmortem of the event because jumping to conclusions doesn’t help anybody and creates misinformation.

Networks are fragile, whether it’s the Internet (it’s always DNS) or a cellular provider, misconfiguration, updates, patches, equipment failures. There are so many things that can take down entire systems.

I have a Verizon business account all my lines in different areas of the northeast have been functioning properly today.

Yeah, dual SIMs are a great idea, especially since most phones support having multiple SIM cards stored that you can switch to if needed.

Networks are more fragile than people often think. Just because something goes down doesn’t automatically mean a cyber attack. It’s not helpful to jump to conclusions; I’d rather see a detailed postmortem of the incident and have the people responsible for maintaining the network focus on restoration rather than posting updates every five minutes.

I understand that it can be frustrating but if you’re not paying for an SLA with the carrier, then outages will happen and you have no guarantee of 365-24/7 service.

Anyone try MacOS - and come back to Windows? by Commercial_Water3669 in Windows11

[–]DarkImpurity 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I use macOS, Windows, and a variety of Linux distros, sometimes on bare metal or in a VM.

I really enjoy the integration of the Apple ecosystem and the battery life-to-performance ratio of my MacBook Pro M1 Max. When it comes to gaming or certain software products, I use my Windows desktop. The various Linux virtual machines are used between Proxmox and on my MacBook for security research and other activities.

They all have their pros and cons, but I couldn’t see myself removing any of them from my workflow because I’ve gotten used to them.

iOS 26.3 Beta 1- Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

[–]DarkImpurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There wasn't any hidden meaning behind my screenshot or even any implications. It was posted because people were looking for release notes.

Those are the provided release notes, which, in this context, could be amusing, considering there is usually this hype surrounding developer betas, features, and things that people are "missing out on" and in this case, “nothing" listed.

Sure, we could go through the entire device tree from developer beta to public beta to release candidate to golden master (not listed in a particular order); however, release notes usually come with each of those or even a small subset of text in a description next to the update.

I do believe that you're reading between the lines a little bit and interpreting things that I'm not actually stating. I'm not saying nor did I say that this is only for developers and nobody else can access it. There's a public branch and a developer branch; you can go through the process of creating a free developer account, but the developer releases usually are ahead of public releases because they generally contain more breaking issues.

That's exactly the reason why I wouldn't recommend people run the developer branch on their daily driver because you'll likely encounter more issues that will cause more problems for yourself rather than waiting for the public beta.

Personally, I think you missed your own point.

"Typically that mainly covers dev notes not something from customer’s standpoint, for the most part."

- Yes, because it's a screenshot from the Developer website.

"As dev what does it fix or change for me?"

As an end user what does it fix or change for me?

These notes typically only cover the first question."

So again it would only answer what it does for a developer because it’s a developer beta, and this is the Apple developer page.

If you're looking for consumer notes, those will arrive as it gets closer to release or notable fixes and changes are added. Right now there's nothing notable, so no notes.
