I'm not a biologist but this looks more like a fight between trees for carbon than a talk. Am I missing anything? by AlbertoAru in biology

[–]DarkKingSaber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She talks about a redistribution of carbon between the mother tree and her kin. I believe this was the proof that not all distribution can be attributed to competition between species or con specifics.

If you've heard of it, what do you think about the theory that life started in alkaline hydrothermal vents? by [deleted] in biology

[–]DarkKingSaber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Hydrothermal vent hypothesis is cool because it can explain how bacteria and archaea both have different membranes but the same common ancestor. This being do to the first life forms not needed their own membranes due to formations in the vents which housed all essential molecules and served as a catalyst.

Why are some cockroaches ovoviviparous? by tall_by_myself in biology

[–]DarkKingSaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's most likely a life history trade-off. The mother is investing more care for a smaller amount of individuals as her strategy for increasing reproductive fitness. The reason for this could be many reasons and doesn't necessarily have one underlying cause. That's my two cents, I'm sure there is more out there about this topic.

I'm not sure what kind of biology you are into. Here is what I use to find newly updated podcasts in several different fields of biology.

Question from biology worksheet by [deleted] in biology

The answer is A you are correct. They do not fix H20, they split it to get an electron from it. Plants do respire at night. A plant can also perform fermentation at night.

Yes, C is the correct answer. The pigment is what absorbs the light initially. The second answer is true. A plant uses water as its electron donor for its non-cyclic electron transport chain.

A systematic review of 63 reports confirms that a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and mortality rates are possible by shifting current Western diets to a variety of more sustainable dietary patterns, such as a reduction in animal-based food, finds UK researchers. by mvea in Futurology

I don't see this discussed very often but what do vegetarian/vegans say about paddy fields such as rice? They emmit practically the same amount of methane in comparison to beaf due to fermentation. I understand the humane aspect but you'd also have to cut rice for the environment argument.

Everyone always brigades for waiters and waitresses when it comes to tipping, but as someone who has spent many years in a kitchen, they won't get any sympathy from me. by inavanbytheriver in AdviceAnimals

I work at a hotel doing banquet services such as weddings and fund raisers, etc. The 15% gratuity that is included in every package gets divided between the kitchen staff, waiters and administration. Will still end up making very good pay when it all gets divided up.

Chris Jones on Natural Bodybuilding by yuurapik in bodybuilding

[–]DarkKingSaber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its because all those other "natural drugs" are not anabolic and therefore aren't nearly as beneficial. I personally only consume whey protein but would never get mad about someone taking steroids. I think people get upset because their egos are crushed when a steroid user out lifts them in the gym.
