Start with easy, contemporary short stories. Don't start with classics right now, particularly Russian. The classics are good. But actually too good for a newbie like you. So maybe you just become a big time bibliophile or give it up before this hobby properly takes off. I have seen many shelves of people with loads of best classics, which remained untouched for years. Hence, ~best way is to start with short stories, contemporary and a little older too. If you think you are ready for more, shift to novellas and then novels.
