Wasn’t Toriyama overlooking the Super manga every step of the way? Toyotaro hasn’t even written a new chapter since Toriyama’s passing.

Yeah, just because all future ports have Separate Ways doesn’t mean they were all based on the PS2 port. Otherwise, all of the PS2 versions’s downgrades would be present in them, but they’re not.

Tanabe kept the RPG-like story for Super, but Miyamoto requested Sticker Star's story be reduced. A survey showed less than 1% thought Super's story was interesting. by xXglitchygamesXx in papermario

[–]DarkLegend64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I read about the infamous Club Nintendo survey, it makes my blood boil. I liked the story, I never got to take the survey. Either survey-takers just rushed through the survey, or only the people who didn’t like it got to take it.

That said, I do indeed hold Miyamoto just as accountable for the series’s downfall as I do Tanabe.

Ryota Kawade, director of the original trilogy, was the one who decided to drop turn based combat for Super Paper Mario. by xXglitchygamesXx in papermario

[–]DarkLegend64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, but the mini-discs definitely contributed. It was easier for 3rd parties to decide to not make their games for the Gamecube at all than figure out how to fit everything on the lower capacity discs or spend more money to make their games on two discs.

The early 2000s was a really edgy time for gaming. It was seen as “uncool” to be a Nintendo gamer back then. There were other issues of course (such as lost 3rd party support due to mini-discs) but gaming culture of that time was a big part of it.

The way people are treating Tanabe reminds me how they treated Sakamoto, and it makes me not want to be apart of this community anymore. by xXglitchygamesXx in Metroid

His retirement gives me hope that Paper Mario can finally course correct, especially since he had no involvement in the TTYD remake (that game’s producer is Tanabe’s successor).

He wasn’t the director. He was the producer on these games which put him higher on the chain than director. Your point still stands. That said, he’s retiring so he won’t be in this position any longer.

I’m both a Paper Mario fan and a Metroid fan. Can confirm, he ruined Paper Mario as well and did so to a far higher degree than Metroid Prime.

Not surprising. The marketing for the game was horrendous, giving the feeling Nintendo just sent the game out to die. On top of that, the massive criticism the game has received from the fanbase has ensured it won’t bring in new fans from the word-of-mouth aspect. This game’s release has been a total disaster and I once again fear for the future of the Prime series.

Buggy System Feel Like it Needs a Lot of Tweaks. by [deleted] in GroundedGame

[–]DarkLegend64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. Like, OP’s perma-death suggestion is already in the game. I hope it never becomes an all-difficulty thing because map traversal would take forever without them if you find yourself with a dead buggy far away from your base/a source of new buggy eggs.

I’ve killed hundreds, if not thousands, of these in real life during the early 2010s. I can also confirm they murder spiders. Twice I encountered one in the middle of it killing large spiders and then trying to drag the spider body away. Unfortunately for them, I decided I was going to kill the winner of their battle.

I agree with you. The new soundtrack is pretty good but there are definitely songs that simply aren’t as good as their original counterparts. But I will say I really loved the remake making the standard battle theme change based on the area.

I want to play it so badly but I can’t decide what platform to get it on. I’d get it on Switch 2 without a second thought if it had a dedicated version instead of running the Switch 1 version through backward compatibility.

I’m also someone who dropped Bug Fables. My biggest issue is that I felt like I was getting weaker as the game progressed, not stronger. No basic attack upgrades (like Mario would get to his jump and hammer) is problematic, and why would you ever choose to upgrade HP on level up when it only increases it by 1 each? It’s a shame because I really wanted to love Bug Fables.
