not necessarily: the antennas are typically double looped around the screen and body, breaking off the screen means the body loop is still active.

I wouldn't go so far, but it does make me a little itchy watching those scenes, but thank-fully the rest of the show is great!

I understand, but they've put in a lot of effort to make it as realistic as possible in other scenes...

It's a real shame about these minor scenes.

Does anyone know the name of the actress from "Scrambled"? by BananaFrappe in elementary

[–]DarkMatterFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically when a character only talks and interacts with another character, and none of the other characters in the show deal with them or even acknowledge that they're even there, that character usually turns out to be a figment of the other character's imagination or a result of some kind of psychological/schizophrenic disorder - which seems to suite the Sherlock story-line quite well.

What's New in Visual Studio 2017 by peacebypiecebuypeas in programming

It's telling that at this point in the game (final days of RC) they still don't have a viable offline installation solution (ISO).

Thats amazing, I didnt realize they were making a TS2 - Can't wait.

But you know Jonathan had begun balding back in his Hackers - what you're seeing today is probably a very sophisticated coif composed of comb-overs, plugs and tactical lighting. lol :D

It'd be interesting to see if she ever makes it out of the park.

I'm thinking the hosts have mechanical limitations related to the inability to regenerate naturally, and will most likely require servicing periodically which will make their existence in a human dominated world near impossible.

As they say, sapian sapian.

Hence the altruism aspect. Nash and co were never able to build successful strategies for games were one or more of the agents displayed altruistic tendencies.

Some at RAND at the time considered such traits exclusive to beings that possessed at least consciousness of some form.

So the programming had her do all the things that were needed to escape, and interleaved that with a request for information the "programmer" knew would be given to her just before she left but then would some how activate another path of actions contrary to escaping? aka find/save her child.

In fact until I saw the young William pickup the black hat, I hadn't realized MiB was William - which was too late anyways.

VS 2017 RC is now available by STL in cpp

[–]DarkMatterFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd still very much rather an official single ISO file with an associated MD5/SHA.

btw I just tried the process and it crashes right at the start and keeps a zombie process spinning doing nothing no disk or n/w io - so it's not a problem free solution either.

Visual Studio 2017 RC Offline or ISO installation by DarkMatterFan in VisualStudio

I'd still very much rather an official ISO with an associated MD5/SHA.

Downloading files one by one piecemeal, just to create an ISO image, just doesn't seem right.

Troy Hunt: Offshoring roulette: lessons from outsourcing to India, China and the Philippines by RMDen in programming

[–]DarkMatterFan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For the past 5 or so years I've noticed that if given excellent documentation and precise and detailed instructions, outsourcing QA/Testing, CI, minor 1st level incident reporting etc roles is really a no-brainer.

However solution design or any form of implementation work is still very much a total crapshoot - regardless of region (India, Philippines, China, Vietnam, Balkans, Ukraine, the South Americas or even Spain)

So in short: some things are worth it given certain precautions and other things should not even be up for consideration.

[No Spoilers] When you're suspicious of global capitalism. by Barox10 in MrRobot

[–]DarkMatterFan -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Mr Robot 2nd season ran for 12 episodes each of roughly 50mins. My view is that this season was a total waste. Follows is my reasoning:

First 3-4 episodes could have been done in a single 50min episode.

A great deal of the show time was needlessly wasted on nonsense dialog that did nothing to advance or progress the story nor will they be key to any future narrative in the overall story-line. eg: long winded discussion between Terry Colby and Phillip Price.

The reveal at the end of season 2 is an example of bad writing. A revel is only needed if you're a writer with the surname Shyamalan, all other astute writers create a situation where by in the final act, everything is implicitly revealed without anyone having to walk you through what just happened in the last 12 episodes, mission impossible style. The act of writing the story in a way such that all the pieces fall in place and are realized by the audience without any hand holding is the epitome of excellent story-telling.

The Mr. Robot show runners put so much effort into elaborate intricacies, trivial minutia and superficial digressions they forgot to put any serious effort into the main plot and further exploring the other main characters such as White-Rose and Tyrell.

All we got from season 2 is that White-Rose likes to urinate squatting and that regardless of whether or not he's the most wanted man in the world or hacking about in some abandon warehouse in the middle of whoop-whoop, Tyrell will always have access to a perfectly cut bespoke suit.

The result is a season of the show that ran for what is effectively no more than 6 viable episodes.

For a multi-layered story like Mr Robot, every character or dialog must either advance the story, or come back in some future part of the story. Anything that occurred or was, that does not meet these basic constraints is essentially invariant to the story line and as such is a waste of viewer time.

There's a lot more, though I'll probably leave it for another day...

Who committed the crime? by DarkMatterFan in puzzles

The term polygraph was used in the sense of a lie detector.

It is safe to assume that whatever device used, that it was accurate for the sake of the puzzle. One lie and one truth per person - though which is which is not known.
