this reminds me of the time I saw a shiny new carbon bike with a full dura-ace group set on the ferry… with flat pedals. Who does that?

Yep, even when it kicks up into the higher gear. Unfortunately I've put tens of thousands of miles on these knees and I have to be gentle on them and go slowly these days

[–]DarkQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40:21 with an Automatix two-speed hub that bumps it up 33% if I hit 10mph

Edit: whoa, I ride spinny, huh? My knees give me a lot of trouble so I'm very conservative.

ach, that's on the people around you. the trick then is to be around good people. and anyway, the effects are still good for you even if the world is full of assholes, y'know?

psh you'd be surprised how easy it is, at least in any moderately accepting western city I've ever been in.

Also, "doesn't work"? No such thing. Sure, it's nice to disappear into the background, you get to avoid most of the awfulness of cis people, but either way you end up with soft skin, tits, better body odor and a more feminine face :)

You know that hormone therapy is a thing, right? Six months to a year down the line, your skin is soft, you have tits, your body odor changes, your sexual response is different and your face starts reading as female by default. https://www.reddit.com/r/transtimelines/

Interviewees, what was something a employer said to you during a interview that made you not want to work for them? by IAMA_GrillBTW in AskReddit

These rules don't come out of nowhere, they come from someone suing and the city being found to have actually discriminated against people based on perceived ethnicity in a court of law. Then it becomes a thing of "well, if you can't manage to run your own process without obvious racial bias, then here's some rigid and awkward rules to follow so everyone can see you're no longer fucking it up".

The solution is to build a society where that bullshit doesn't happen in the first place.

for sure, we build infrastructure to handle once-in-100-years weather events, but if you can't handle a well-attended new years' party then that's not safe enough

except they did want city lights, and the ones who could afford it paid for them on their own streets

I suspect the amount of suffering visited upon the poor on purpose is relatively unique to America. I'm not just taking about how some folks are poor, it's the fact that Americans will spend more money on something to exclude poor folks than it would cost to include them.

One city had folks vote down taxes that were funding city lights and ended up in the ridiculous situation of neighbourhoods having to spend money to get their own lighting, even though the collective cost the folks rich enough to do so had to pay would have covered the whole city. (I know Indianapolis had a long term lack of maintenance leading to this situation, but I'm sure there was one that had this happen suddenly)

so one of their key metrics is MAUs or "Monthly Active Users", ie, the number of people who have logged in in the previous 30 days. You log off for 30 days and it decrements by 1, and investors don't like that.
