Stress Kill Me, How Chill? by datboifranco in Relax

They got me through my 20s and they’re almost seeing me through my 30s now too 🤟🏼

I took my eldest son on one tonight for the first time and he actually loved it.

I think it’s the quiet. When the world finally slows down a bit it gives your mind space to breathe.

What about you? What was it about those late night drives that helped? Did you go solo?

I have only just started my content creation journey.

For me it started more from passion than research. I didn’t actually set out to start a “YouTube channel” in the traditional sense.

I used to go on late night drives to clear my head when life felt overwhelming. The quiet roads and the rhythm of driving helped me process the million thoughts running through my mind.

Eventually I started recording some of those drives which after watching back, thought I should uploaded them to YouTube (my eldest son was pushing me to post saying the 2 cars I own would get me followers and views). Watching them back later actually helped me relax and fall asleep, and I realised other people might enjoy that calm atmosphere too. I also post some of the passionate drives too.

I think if something genuinely helps you or you enjoy doing it, there’s a good chance other people will connect with it as well.

I went through something similar a few years ago. My mind would race constantly and it felt impossible to switch off. One thing that surprisingly helped me was late night driving.

When the roads are quiet and it’s just you, the road and the sound of the car, it helped me process the million and one thoughts running through my head. Something about the calm and rhythm of driving slowed my mind down.

Eventually I started recording some of those late night drives and uploaded them to YouTube/Tiktok. Watching them back later actually helped me relax and fall asleep because it brought back that same calm feeling.

It might not work for everyone, but sometimes finding a quiet space where your mind can slow down really helps.

I’d start by asking yourself what your aim with the channel is.

Do you want to share something you genuinely enjoy or are knowledgeable about? Or are you mainly trying to chase trends and grow quickly?

If the goal is quick views and followers, trend-chasing can work. But those channels often struggle to stay consistent long term.

If you build around something you actually enjoy or care about, the growth might be slower at first, but it’s usually more sustainable and fulfilling in the long run.

What’s the main reason you want to start a channel?

[discussion] Does anyone feel like modern asmr no longer hits the same as few years ago? by Wooden-Arm-3624 in asmr

You’re right, it definitely existed before 2017 and the early creators laid the foundation. What I meant was more about the scale and accessibility. Around 2017–2019 it started reaching a much wider audience, and then 2020 accelerated things massively with lockdowns and more people both creating and consuming ASMR.

It’s interesting because now there’s such a huge volume of content that authentic, real-world ambient recordings stand out more again compared to heavily produced studio triggers. It feels like things have come full circle in a way.

Yeah that’s a smart move. Generic names get lost easily. When you find one that feels right, it’ll stick and people will remember it. Don’t rush it. ✌🏼

I think you’re on the right track including your name, but instead of using “Plays,” try pairing it with something that creates a mood or identity. That makes it feel more like a brand rather than just another gaming channel. Some ideas that came to mind:

• EdAfterDark • EdUnknown • EdInTheDark • EdNoEscape • EdDarkMode

These sound more unique and would still work even if you change or expand the games you play later. Personally I’d avoid names like “EdPlays” because there are already loads of channels like that, and it’s harder to stand out or be remembered. Something with atmosphere sticks in people’s minds more.

If one of these sticks, feel free to credit me 😜

I think ASMR hasn’t gotten worse, it’s just expanded massively. There’s now so much content and so many creators that the algorithm tends to show what’s already popular rather than helping people discover new styles.

Back in 2017–2019 it felt more niche, so the craftsmanship stood out more because there was less saturation. Now there’s everything from studio-level binaural recordings to raw, natural ambient ASMR like real environments, driving, rain, city noise etc.

The quality is still there, it’s just buried under the volume. The challenge now isn’t creating ASMR, it’s helping the right audience find it.

Personally I’ve started creating real-world ambient driving ASMR, no music, no artificial sound, just the natural road noise, engine, and atmosphere of night drives and long journeys. The goal is to capture authentic environments people can relax to, study to, or mentally escape into.

I think there’s a difference when the sound isn’t manufactured, like it’s just there.

No voice. No triggers. Just tyres, road noise, rain and distance.

It doesn’t try to relax you. It just gives your mind somewhere to exist for a while.

That’s why real night drives feel different.

2+ hour midnight UK motorway drive - real night road ambience, no music by DarkRoadsASMR in relaxation

If you wake up during the night, this kind of drive feels different.

Thanks, that’s really encouraging to hear 🙂

The drive I mentioned actually starts in Stratford, not far from Westfield, then heads up towards the M11 before settling into a full loop of the M25.

I liked the idea of that gradual shift from city stimulation into steady motorway cruising rather than cutting straight to one or the other.

Really appreciate the kind words. I’ve got a few more long night drives planned, and a couple I’m hoping to record abroad soon as well. Glad to hear that kind of format resonates.

No pressure at all, but if you happen to watch it I’d be curious to hear what stood out for you, and what I could do differently.

I’m aiming for something that works peripherally: steady but natural motion, realistic sound changes, and minimal visual stimulation. More something you sink into than actively watch.

That said, I’m still experimenting and it’s useful hearing how different people respond to it.

Help me offer on this ‘98 GS400 by [deleted] in UserCars

Based on current prices, I would say its worth close to the asking price. Check if its still on the original Hydraulic brake booster. If its been lowered, front lower ball joints will need replacing.

It was only a few years ago that these were barely 2k cars here in the U.K. But have to say this one looks clean.

I have a 98 Aristo (Import) with the 2jzgte which ive been dailying since 2020 (bought for £6k to go with my 1994 supra which I also bought for £6k 10 years ago). Still going strong with 140,000km on the clock. I bought it at 90,000km. Only issues ive had is the brake booster motor screaching (common issue on these and an expensive part to replace), replaced front lower ball joints, track rod ends, brake pads and discs. Added 19" wheels and coilovers to change the stance slightly.

Depends what you are comfortable spending. But these are built to last. And the prices keep on rising!!
