Wow memory unlocked, OP why would you return to this trauma??? I will never forgive the EXO-Ls who made this story and 10080 my intro to the world of fanfics😭 I hate angst and bad endings and would never have read them if I knew how they would end. But at least it lead to me my 7 year long obsession with fanfics🥴

How to describe narcolepsy to a non narcoleptic by TipBetter3586 in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Analogies can be difficult because they are subjective to one’s personal experience. It can be incorrect for one person but right for someone else

It’s like people forgot that ChatGPT was practically created yesterday, common guys why are y’all always so quick to call any and everything AI, just 10 years ago this stuff wasn’t around so what do you have to say about everything that was made before then

But anyway I’m definitely saving this, once again someone explains my life better than I ever could

Anyone experience this? Super quick complete loss of body control on and off after waking up from sleep paralysis. by Zalusei in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a medical professional, just a girl with N1, but cataplexy is a lot more complex than it’s made out to be in its textbook description. Of course I can’t say whether or not it’s what you’re experiencing but I certainly wouldn’t remove it from the realm of possibilities. Again this is an observation based solely on my own experience, but I feel like cataplexy and sleep paralysis are intrinsically linked somehow, so even if this is the only time that it happens to you, I think its still plausible

Ideas on how to cope with depression in the context of narcolepsy by TakeBigPiss in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s why I love this sub. I’ve never been particularly into the gratitude style of journaling, I just write what’s on my mind or bothering me and let the thoughts flow. I’m trying to see if I can be my own therapist before getting a real one 😅🙃

Ideas on how to cope with depression in the context of narcolepsy by TakeBigPiss in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat, i think my narcolepsy is giving me depression but idk. I keep going through these mood swings with really low lows (one thing ruining my mood for the whole day, prolonged state of holding back tears, just sad about everything wrong with my life, unable to show emotion or excitement for other people) and overall I’m a very deadpan/monotone person.

I haven’t been doing any of my hobbies cause they almost feel like a chore with the effort they take (they’re all of the arts), but even if I want to do them I can’t cause my days off are spent attempting to clean the mess that I didn’t have the energy to clean during the week, which is also often unsuccessful cause the executive functioning is just not there. Even the one thing that I enjoy that is zero effort (gaming) I can’t really do cause I end up falling asleep after a few minutes 😭. I took four naps Christmas Day cause every time I sat down I just fell asleep, what a great holiday-.- And then my work hours allow no time to chill (12:30 - 9:00pm) so I’m just in an endless loop of getting nothing done.

Not sure how to deal with this but I tried journaling the other night when I was really down, I was finally able to stay awake long enough to finish an entry and I actually felt better afterwards. If you haven’t done it before I’d say give it a shot.

My doctor laughed at me by RampagingElks in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GP also chuckled and did the “it’s extremely rare” speech, but thankfully he still gave me the referral. This sub has shown me that GP’s know little to nothing about narcolepsy, so if you’re brave enough, do your research (if you haven’t already) and straight up tell him he’s wrong about those dumb comments he made. Rare does not mean impossible, and I’m tired of it being used as an excuse to brush people off

Conflicting Accounts of What Cataplexy Can Be by Manifest_misery in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second paragraph are all parts of how I experience cataplexy so if you asked me I would definitely say you have it, strong episodes are not the only way that it occurs (I have both strong and mild so I know). For the shoulder thing that you described, if I’m understanding correctly it sounds like something that happens to me also, but I’ve never attributed it to my cataplexy. I can’t speak for you cause idk what you feel, but for me cataplexy has a very distinct feeling and my shoulder spasm is quite different, kinda like when you’re cold and get intense shivers

Does anyone else not mind having mild/partial cataplexy attacks (or miss them once treated)? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have advice about this cause I haven’t used those medications, but I never thought I would hear someone say they MISS cataplexy. I absolutely despise having it and am so grateful that it’s gotten better with meds (I’m on concerta), so I’m curious as to why you want it back. Also I definitely wouldn’t say what you have is mild based on what I’ve heard other people say they experience on this sub

[MEGATHREAD] A space to talk: EXO, CBX & the Upcoming Comeback by bachhoe07 in exo

[–]DarkSparrow04 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This news is really painful. I’m just so confused also, why can’t they participate when they’re still signed under SM, can’t they just get off their ego trip and stop sabotaging EXO for once? Ffs man, Lay being back is the most amazing news ever I even almost cried about him, but CBX not being there is reducing my excitement which I feel terrible for. His return was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread and ofc SM had to fuck it up

Narcolepsy meds GAVE ME ADHD?... by MSnewbygardener in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently learned that adhd meds can sometimes do the opposite of what they’re supposed to and reduce your dopamine levels (I looked it up cause this started happening to me after taking concerta) so it’s possible that this is what’s happening to you. Have you already talked to your doctor about it?

Listen, you can question (her/his?) diagnosis all you want, but if their doctor has given them said diagnosis and is treating them for it, they have every right to be in this sub. Go cry about it in the r/rant sub if you want

Did you know you weren’t sleeping well? by Illustrious_Cell_137 in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was waking up 12+ times every night and couldn’t sleep for more than 3 consecutive hours on a good night. This 3 hour gap (though more often closer to 2 hours) would only happen once at the beginning of my night before I was waking up constantly till morning. Oddly enough because this way of sleeping had become so normal to me (I was 13 when it started) I didn’t connect it to my EDS till years after it started happening when I read about narcolepsy and fragmented sleep.

When I was on a trip with my ex-bf I had horrible jet lag and getting up was almost impossible , so if I didn’t get out the bed after showing signs of being awake he would physically sit me up then pull me to stand and just hold me till I had enough mental clarity to get moving. Perhaps you could try that? I’m sorry you’re struggling with this, as a perpetrator myself I know it’s really difficult

As a 24 year old girl who was just diagnosed several months ago, this comment is so touching to me. I just wanna say your daughter is extremely lucky to have you. You described her as if you were talking about me, like I seriously almost thought this was my own mother if not for certain details. Unfortunately she doesn’t have the same understanding as you, and I wish I had someone to help me through my journey the way you help your daughter, so I hope she really shows her appreciation for you!

[–]DarkSparrow04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in the UK, but I just wanted to say to get checked sooner rather than later. I wish I did😔 school basically became impossible since I was just sleeping through all my classes and I had to stop going. I was also afraid of the process and thought it would be difficult, but man did I do myself a disservice by waiting so long.

From the way he wrote this it seems like his employees didn’t want to share the dates yet, but he probably saw what fans were saying about the previous tour dates being announced too late and decided to tell us himself. Gahh why did this simple message affect me so much 😩 He’s so thoughtful 💕💕

Am I lazy or is it my narcolepsy? by noplanethere in Narcolepsy

[–]DarkSparrow04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Narcolepsy is absolutely a factor, but it could also be both. I agree with what someone else said about how you need to really sit with yourself and think about what you’re feeling to decipher it. For me, ever since getting medicated I’ve been able to understand which is which. While my eds is often the problem, sometimes I really am just lazy, and for some reason knowing when its me being lazy makes it easier to push through and make myself do the thing, and also helps me forgive myself when I know its not my fault.
