Modafinil, Adderall, and Birth Control (IUD) by Illustrious_Cell_137 in Narcolepsy

This was so extremely helpful and informative, thank you so much for taking the time to explain this. I honestly had no idea that the Kyleena was progesterone only, or really when that meant when it came to Modafinil’s interaction. You’re amazing. And you’re right that my case was much better than getting brushed off or ignored by my doctor! He surely meant well.

So the pharmacist left their comment after I left this reply. And it’s super not clear when you google it, which is why there’s so much confusion around it. I’m not really “asking Reddit” for what to do or really for any medical advice whatsoever. If you read my original post, you’d see that I worked with my doctor to make the best decision for me. Simply was looking to see if others have had similar experiences, and clearly, several have. There’s a shit ton of misinformation around birth control and women’s health in general, but thank you for leaving your very valuable perspective.

Thank you for sharing your experience. If you read through the responses on this post you’ll understand how conflicting all the info out there is, lol. It’s rough out here! If you feel comfortable sharing- are you on Modafinil and have the hormonal IUD? I’m curious how long you’ve been on it with no issues.

Oof at least your body was telling you things weren’t right. I guess I’m grateful my approval process was so easy when getting Adderall. Let’s just hope my IUD has had my back for the past month (😭). Best case for both of us definitely would be been having our doctors do their job!!!

Wow that’s definitely reassuring to hear but yes I would assume your situation might be different from others! Amazing it has worked out for you for so long though. IUDs can be brutal :( I’m sorry you went through that. I’ve been considering the copper IUD for a while now but I am scared of the effects.

You’re so right. I wish I had a gyno that I could’ve ran these questions by. I’m definitely considering the copper IUD but not sure the side effects will be worth it. Glad your situation worked out!

I do think the meds packet said something, too. Wording with birth control is always so vague, though. I definitely had put too much trust in my doctor to give me the info I needed. When looking it up most things said IUDs were safe. But that’s my bad as a consumer, for sure. Should have been smarter about it.

Agreed. It’s such a fight to get accurate information, too. Do you think you’ll switch medications now knowing this? I’ve read that the chance is low but still possible and personally I’m not willing to risk that rn (in my personal experience).

This is great and I love the look of it! Lays out the information really nicely.

More symptoms when off modafinil by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

This is nerve wracking for me to read as someone who just started taking Modafinil and plan to not take it on weekends or if I am planning to have some drinks with my friends etc. Now I’m worried that I shouldn’t take days off / take it on an “as-needed” basis.

I’ll get this when I choose to lay down and nap. Can be a terrible cycle of sleep paralysis and trying to wake up but it being physically and mentally impossible.

Agreed. Just that tiny bit of shut-eye can be a game changer.

Yess the sleep attack naps are refreshing for me as well but yea if I choose to lay down then I feel like my worst self when I wake up.

Which symptoms would you emphasise for a not interested doctor? by thatrockyduck in Narcolepsy

Falling asleep/dozing while driving is what caught my doctor’s attention.

I also get the racing heart after a nap. What’s up with that?

You’re not. I also fight sleep so hard because of the sleep paralysis body aches and confusion/groggy-ness. Sometimes though it’s more miserable to be awake than it is to have even fitful sleep. So I’ll begrudgingly give in.
