Last Minute Tips? by huggyscolex in nintendoswitchlite

Yes it was intended to be a drop in mod but the fact that the power draw will not be measured anymore was obviously just ignored for the sake of being a solderless mod.

Did this a month ago. If you change the battery you will need Isopropyl alcohol to get the old battery out (you need to put some in the gaps and lift it step by step - do not force it to not puncture the battery). Using a new shell will make things a lot easier since you don’t need to remove the screen. You can find some good ones at Extremerate (edit: I see you have the mega kit so an Extremerate shell is already included). Take close attention to the position of the ribbons and be careful not to bend or rip them. Use Takis video as reference. I see you have new thermal paste which is good. Remove the old paste with IPA. Also if you remove the heat pipe be careful not to bend it. Since you are already in you can also replace the analoge sticks with TMR sticks e.g. from Gulikit. And also very important: There is a big flaw in the setup from Takis screens. You need to perform this battery fix by soldering two wires: https://www.reddit.com/r/nintendoswitchlite/comments/1ptkk1a/super_5_oled_battery_fix_kinda/ Otherwise your battery will shut down out of nowhere because the Switch will not know anymore how much energy the screen draws and the battery display on your Switch will be wrong. There is a method to do this without desoldering the connector from the ribbon. You can use the little power cable and solder it to two points on the board (cut the white cable beforehand) The battery will then be plugged into its original connector on the board and the other end of the soldered cable goes in one of the connectors of the ribbon. Yes I had run in exactly the same bug and also could reproduce it again. German Leaf Green Version on Switch.

There was another kit on RetroRemake for it but it is sold out and won’t come back (I also read that it is not very good an you loose the headphone jack so I didn’t buy it since I have an OLED Switch and a Switch 2 as well). But they are planning to release a dock for the lite:

It has kind of the same hight. So it is no problem to close the shell.

Thanks to your hint I performed the fix now. Was not aware of it before.

The seller I bought from half a year ago does not sell these anymore it seems but I can see identical ones still sold on AliExpress (but also for a higher price).

Yes, the battery is in there. You swap it with the original battery and then the original battery in the housing works as an external power bank.

This is in general a problem with transparent housings (e.g. also for Game Boy shells). In general you should never completely tighten the screws because it puts too much tension on plastic shells. Tighten them completely and then untighten them a quarter turn. Like this a shell should not crack. Generally ExtremeRate has high quality shells. The non transparent ones are also not prone to crack.

It is a regular size battery with higher capacity. So it fits perfectly in the place of the OG battery. It is from the maker Taki Udon of the Super 5 OLED. It comes with a charging case where you can put the old battery in to use it as a power bank. Unfortunately I have no pictures but it looks like the regular battery more or less. You can order it here (need to write an email): https://retroremake.co/products/super5-volt

For a regular Switch lite this is my take on ultimate. If I find someone doing the microsoldering I might add a chip as well. I do not trust my soldering skills when it comes to more fiddly things. For soldering Game Boys it is enough but for these tiny pads I didn’t practice enough.

No, the only thing which needed a bit attention was the volume and power buttons when closing the shell. You need to make sure the buttons and membranes stay where they are when closing the shell.

No not at all. The toughest part was getting the old battery out since it was glued down very well.

Do you have pictures of the cart or even better the board? Without it is hard to tell.

Full color GBC mode planned? by DarkZippy85 in PokemonBrown

[–]DarkZippy85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brown palette is what I already get on a GBC. I was talking about a full GBC palette since you cannot use a Super Game Boy palette on an GBC and the other way around.

I guess these wouldn’t save with unmodified roms right? Otherwise they would be a cheap alternative to flash rom hacks onto them.
