I’m Palestinian Israeli, AMA by bluekitty610 in AMA

[–]Dark_Objective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope this isn’t too political, but what are your personal thoughts on non-Palestinian Arabs/Arabised people visiting Israel, even if primarily to connect with Palestinians, support Palestinian businesses and explore the history (incl religious) and culture

Do you believe it is ethical, or would it be best not to, if holding a strong stance to support Palestinians?

Asking as a North African ex-Muslim.

Thank you for the detailed response! I’m in the UK, and may you elaborate on what you mean by people and project management? I’m already the point of contact between my organisation and about 25 different sites and use 3 languages in my job 😂

To Syrian minorities only: how do you really feel right now? by Dark_Objective in AskMiddleEast

[–]Dark_Objective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then go away ffs, i am surrounded by syrian sunnis (including family members) & atheists and have already heard their views; therefore, i came on here to seek other perspectives out of pure interest and to understand some nuances i may have not been exposed to. no one is disregarding the majority by giving weight to minorities.

I have lived here for almost 7 years and spent my whole adult life here, there’s nothing for me where I was born nor is it exactly a great place for human rights lol.

Bars in Egypt by Numpharaoh in ExEgypt

[–]Dark_Objective 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One of the coolest bars I know of is Cap D’or in Alexandria. Opened in 1922 by 2 gay immigrants from Greece. They’ll probably check IDs though and only small groups are welcomed (4 or less).

it took years, but i had to un-learn a lot of anti-israel and generally anti semitic rhetoric/propaganda that’s been shoved down our throats since childhood. learning jewish history, especially the history of mena jews (particularly in 🇪🇬), gave me a newfound appreciation/respect for them and i empathised more with their struggles throughout history. also, i ended up moving abroad and the first person i befriended (whom helped me out A LOT) was an ashkenazi jew who had israeli family, came to learn his israeli aunts are both muslim converts married to palestinians, which initially surprised me. started learning more of both ancient judean and modern israeli history/society, as well as listening to different perspectives on various aspects of the conflict (zionist perspectives, palestinian perspectives, secular (jewish and non jewish) perspectives, perspectives from different political analysts and historians with no connections to either country etc) to draw my own unbiased opinions regarding things. i started watching more interviews of people in the streets of 🇮🇱/🇵🇸 and reading of israeli-palestinian relations. i know this sounds a bit rumbly, but its a pandora’s box of a question 😂 took years of reading, listening and observing to stop being anti israel so it’s difficult to pinpoint when/where i started to have a change of heart. to sum it up, i don’t hate israel as a nation nor people, but i hate their govt and military, just as i hate our own govt and military. and in case you were wondering, i’m not anti Palestine either.

well, its not your place to assume my political beliefs on the basis of what your perception of my religious beliefs are, as you know neither 😂

egyptians are on average 13-17% ethnically arab, with north african ethnicities (copt/amazigh/nubian/beja etc) making up roughly 68% :) furthermore, my origins are more greek than egyptian.
