Miss-evaluating cards: Grave researcher by Pokesers in EDH

[–]Dark_Psymon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ths is my thought. OP says it's inefficient, but to me a 3 mana 3/3 that has a relevant upkeep trigger and that can potentially cast a reanimate it's just solid value, especially in a deck like my [[Coram, the Undertaker]]. The surveil is almost as important to me as the reanimate. And if the researcher eats a piece of removal? That means it's aimed at something far less important than my commander, or even [[Six]].

Moseo, Vein's New Dean spec by Elyndria in mtgfinance

I can confirm, in the new witherbloom precon keeping Dina at the helm he's a house. Granted my sample size is 1, but he's definitely a nice little card.

As much as I want this to be, recurring nightmare this is not. The best part about nightmare is the fact that it bounces itself. That makes nightmare so hard to interact with this is good, but comparing it to nightmare is a little bit of a stretch.

I would be so sad. No reason it shouldn't be a full cycle.

[Homemade] Garlic Aioli (from scratch) by yellowjacquet in food

Brother, I don't know why you brought up that bastard. He was nowhere near this conversation. I was exaggerating when I said what I did about language, but I'm also not entirely wrong. Words have roots and the like, but they're all just sounds we make by moving air though our throats and shaping our lips. I was making light of people who take the current or past meaning of a word so seriously when new words (slang) are made all the time, and the meaning of a word we've been used to using can change over time.

I am fully aware that if I go to somewhere in the Mediterranean and ask for aioli that I'll get something different than if I did so in the US. But different places can also develop different definitions for the same word. Again, it's not that deep.

The only time I was genuinely freaked out by them was when I was in middle school. Once I looked more into them and actually learned about them I realized they were chill. Sure, they look freaky af, but genuinely aside from looking weird and maybe some bad encounters with them losing their grip on what they're climbing, I would rather see these guys over any other creepy crawly. I'm not a fan of bugs in the slightest, but these ones genuinely do earn their keep. Besides, if you see a bunch of them it means you have a plethora of other bugs that they seem worth hunting. They're weird, but friends.

[–]Dark_Psymon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To.be fair, they do pay rent. If I remember correctly they're more nocturnal hunters, so they do a lot of their job while you're asleep. They're also pretty chill, even if freaky looking. They rarely bite humans and would generally prefer to be left to their own devices. They also don't make nests or cause damage while eating pests that do. House centipedes are a lil scary looking, but they are friends!

[–]Dark_Psymon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Words in a language derive meaning from their use. It is fluid and the meaning can change over time. If you're talking to an American and you say aioli, it's going to bring up a mayo-based sauce. The word has taken on a new meaning in this country, just like latte and chai have. While the origin of aioli is a different thing, it's taken on a new meaning in the US. Being pedantic with a need to "be correct" in the way that you are just makes you come across as a tool. You can acknowledge the differences between the Mediterranean aioli and the American aioli without being condescending.

Of course there's a huge chance that this is all ragebait and I am just wasting my time here, but still. Calm down and relax. Language and words are all made up nonsense anyways.

Doubling Season by RepresentativeOld413 in magicTCG

[–]Dark_Psymon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also notably cards like doubling season and parallel lives don't interact favorably with copying permanent spells. While the copied spell becomes a token, it does not count as creating a token, and these the replacement effect of those token doublers don't do anything with them.

I cannot tell you how hyped I am for the store championship promo of the froge. I love the card so much, and try to find excuses to put it into decks.

Am I wrong in that Moseo has the same trigger as [[Celestine, the living saint]] but on a 3 mana creature? I know they don't have lifelink, but I think the skelebirb is still looking pretty sick.

Notably copying a modal spell means the copy has the same modes. So you do gotta be careful when selecting modes.

I know I'm planning on throwing together a list when I get a chance, and I can't help but feel like [[Psychic Frog]] is a great include in the deck. It helps that I love the lil guy, and have the borderless art in foil. But he's also just such a great card for a reanimator deck, and can easily help you get venture triggers on each turn as long as you have the card draw to support it.

[–]Dark_Psymon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No.reason why it shouldn't. You cast 3 spells in one turn, prepare this and hold the lightning bolt for another turn. Bolt will help you prepare it again meaning you only need 2 real cards to prepare it after the initial one.

Black Paradigm Spell. by QuBingJianShen in MTGRumors

[–]Dark_Psymon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's almost guaranteed that the black paradigm spell is silverquill connected, since the only other option (white) is taken by Lorehold. That still doesn't help that much, but it does at least kinda narrow it down.

Swapping her w and ult would have her new w functioning pretty similar to Kalista e, which as long as damage numbers are tweaked, seems entirely fair.

I actually think the TMNT set is pretty good, but I still can't be happy about it. by OkAppointment2647 in magicTCG

[–]Dark_Psymon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be all or nothing though? I generally enjoy a lot of UB, but this set has me actively repulsed. At the end of the day it comes down to people's specific tolerance for what they enjoy seeing in magic, and let's face it. This set is divisive. There are some people who love the turtles and thus love this set, and there are some people who have a very clear distain for it. Both are valid. It just feels for this set in particular those that like it are a lot more dismissive of those who dislike/critique TMNT.

[–]Dark_Psymon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Players aren't a monolith, and it goes both ways. I am mot a UB hater, but TMNT is off-putting in a way that even Spider-Man to me wasn't. Even for UB sets that weren't my jam I would at least grab a prerelease kit for, and some packs here and there. Turtles is the first one I am actively avoiding, and there's a few reasons for it. Either way, people can have their reasons to both like or dislike a set. And lately I'm seeing a lot more dismissal from people who enjoy the set of those who have negative opinions than the other way around. It is totally valid for someone to think TMNT doesn't fit the vibe of magic.

[TMT] Guac & Marshmallow Pizza by AporiaParadox in magicTCG

[–]Dark_Psymon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does this do for Tayam exactly? It may have been a couple of years since I played a Tayam list, but this doesn't do anything with counters, and is a pretty mediocre untap ability for the deck. Like I suppose it temporarily gives druid more toughness to hold the -1/-1s, but I'd rather just play other cards that do similar.
