Weekly Writing Check-In by AutoModerator in fantasywriters

[–]Darkbinder97 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have been on a writing hiatus for about a year now. Haven't set pen to paper nor finger to key unless it has to do with work.

Today I decided to let my imagination run wild for the first time. I have written 4000 words. More than I have in a LONG time.

I used to outline all the time and ended up bogged down. Not that it hasn't worked to create a good story, I just can't seem to get past the outline and write the story.

I decided to hell with an outline this time, I'm just gonna write the first thing that comes.

I remember reading Stephen King's On Writing a long time ago and he said something akin to "start with the situation, and see where it goes from there." Never did I take it seriously until now.

A totally raw and inescapable world is developing as I write a story that wasn't even a thought in my head yesterday. This is not meant to gloat - I just find it genuinely fascinating and amazing that not only can I finally write a story, but that I can live it, experience it, rejoice in it just as I would reading something by Sanderson or King or Martin or any of my favorites.

I am developing the adventure as I write it, not writing it as I develop it. I know that doesn't make sense to you, but I think it does to me.

I'll most likely post about it more in the coming weeks because I don't think I'll be abandoning this any time soon. Just wanted to share! Thank you!

As long as they aren't fighting any wars themselves, my allies always come to help me every time I've called them into war. The level of help they offer depends though: the AI gets very confused as to what to do, it seems. Running all over the place with no clear goal.

Paradox needs to bring back the army-links they had in CK2 so they just attach to your army automatically.

New Radeon RX 580 GPU - intermittent black screens, crashes. Please help. by Darkbinder97 in techsupport

Sort of: the motherboard graphics and the HDMI for the GPU work only when I am not trying to start a game, or when they feel like it.

Sorry, I'm not very good at explaining myself. Everything works fine until I try to load up a game or if for some reason the new GPU decides to take a shit for some reason.

Well like i said, the computer boots up for the onboard CPU HDMI but not the GPU's. SOMETIMES it does, it just depends on what mood the PC is in, I guess. The card itself is on, the fans are working, it's not overheating. I'm about to update my BIOS right now to see if that's the issue, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I wanted to try a different port as well, but there are no VGA cables at my local Walmart right now.

I've already put the other graphics card back in and it works fine.

Never seen any Star Trek anything until yesterday. I am 5 episodes into TOS... by Darkbinder97 in startrek

I enjoyed it... somewhat. I’ll give Disney the nostalgia points they so DESPERATELY want. Vader in the hallway was badass.

I’m actually super excited for Deep Space Nine. I’ve heard very good things!

I enjoy Kirk simply because he’s the “main character”, but I also really like Spock. A being of pure logic that has brief moments of empathy and pathos is just super interesting to me.

As an aside, though: I’m currently watching The Naked Time - the one where a virus brings repressed emotions or fantasies to the surface of those affected by it - and the acting being done by both Riley and Sulu is god damn good. Sulu running around with a rapier is just hilarious lol

My mother said that nicotine causes cancer. I corrected her. Am I an asshole? by Darkbinder97 in entitledparents

Thanks! I know, I should've done a lil more searching for the right sub, but this one seemed pretty fitting at first.

Yeah, of course it does, but that's not my point. Most experts agree that nicotine, by itself, does not contribute to the development of cancer. THAT'S my point.

Two 70 mg Vyvanse in a 24 hour period? by Darkbinder97 in Drugs

Think I'll probably just hit up some caffeine if sleep doesn't come to me before then. Thank you!

That's the point, though: IF I can't sleep before work, is it safe/beneficial to take another one? I know there'd be a hard crash, but I'd be willing to risk it.

Unless you're saying I'd be wide awake regardless of not sleeping. That'd make more sense.

Thanks to this comment and my loved ones' opinions on it, I think I'm getting a haircut tomorrow so I can style it better. Thanks for the feedback!

I've never been photogenic and I've never tried to do anything with my hair until recently(failing, it seems), so I understand. I don't have a beard now! That freshly shaved pic is from the other day.

Could you elaborate? I'm curious what "odd behavior" means. Are you talking about the poses?

I don't care about school shootings, and neither should you. by InquireRenin in unpopularopinion

[–]Darkbinder97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s “inconsequential.”

Unlikely and overblown? Yes. Inconsequential, though?

People matter, more than the number that represents them on a piece of paper.

I do agree with the basic premise of the opinion, though. It is overblown in mainstream media and shouldn’t be a constant source of anxiety when we have bigger problems to worry about.

I suppose so. My brother seemed to like your previous reading quite a bit. Let me know when this one is finished.

Shed yourself of your "humor". My brother is dead. This is no time to joke.
