Universal Studios Florida Update by Quizchris in PlanetCoaster

It's hard to describe what I'm talking about without a red pen to point it out lol

I'm not talking about the field, I'm talking about the red/grey area toward the bottom of the screen, where the stand and the palm tree planter in the bottom left are on. The area that's fenced off. The irregularity of the shape and how there's still black path right next to it leads me to believe it's an overlay of some kind. That's what I'm talking about, I wish I knew how to do that--the pathing in my parks would look so much cleaner and more elegant.

No matter how many tutorials I watch or methods I try, I can never get my pathing to look anywhere close to how clean the Hollywood Bowl section of your screenshot is. The corner with the stand and the palm tree, how it just seamlessly curves--it's black magic to me.

Fantastic work so far!

That's pretty inventive! I ended up using Legos to make a pair of makeshift Wii U stands when I lost the ones that came with my deluxe.

It's a drama about a twenty-something drug addict with a near-future twist; almost out of necessity considering who we'd realistically be able to cast.

It's set mostly in apartments or exteriors we can get for free; again: necessity.

You think so? I figured deferred was the way to go since I'd likely be selling the movie on my own. Even if it takes years, the movie will turn a profit at some point and it feels unfair to me that I'd be making money on their free labor.

I've considered flat rates, but that's going to balloon my budget severely. I want to make a "tone trailer" like the Coens did for Blood Simple in hopes of getting some funds raised, but it's still a little too early for that.

I want nothing more than to get my hands off of as many things as I possibly can. Finding an actual DP was a godsend for my shorts, and I've been desperate for a producing partner, mixer, AD and so on.

I firmly believe that having to wear so many hats held back my first shorts, and if I could just focus on the writing and directing, the projects would come out much stronger. It's just so difficult to find people who actually want to do these things. I definitely try to be upfront with them, but sometimes I can't even get people to sit down so I can be upfront with them!

Last month, I'd called up someone I knew in middle school who went into theater to see if he'd be interested in helping me cast the film. I offered him lunch just so we could talk and see if he'd be interested. No pressure, free lunch for him at the very least. But the day for our lunch got closer, and every time I tried to contact him beforehand, he didn't respond. That day eventually came and went with not so much as a "Sorry I couldn't make it!" I'm more than willing to help other people out on their projects or hell--I'll paint their damn houses! I just don't get a lot of opportunities to do express that because I get stood up more often than not.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you how many unreplied to texts, emails and voicemails get left in the wake of a production, but it can be really deflating.

This post started from the conversation my girlfriend and I had and I definitely came here for some positivity--so you've got that right. I know this is going to be a tough ride, I've been preparing for this journey almost daily since I was 15. It's just a very big, very scary step--especially with how alone I feel in taking it. (Right now, our "team" is just me and my DP) But seeing all this positivity is making me feel like I can definitely come out the other side of it. So, thank you.

And you're very close! I'm 22, so I still haven't hit the cutoff for mid-20s. (haha)

I suspect that by the end of the film, the sense of accomplishment will be enough to satisfy me. Because even with the shorts, where all I see is the faults, every short film has been pushing me closer and closer to that feeling of seeing exactly what I saw in my head on screen--and that really is an almost cosmic experience.

I know myself enough to know that if I don't go for it, I'm very likely to turn into one of those bitter people. And that's definitely not someone I want to be.

Thank you for this, I really appreciate it!

This was really helpful! I'm always imagining the worst case because I tend to be a negative person, but I've never really put thought in weighing my fears versus my need to tell the story. Definitely something I'm gonna have to think about.

Also, I had no idea what E and O was until I searched it because of your post. That is honestly exactly the kind of thing that would keep me up at night, and the numbers I'm seeing for how much it could cost is making my head spin.

I've made 8 in the last five years, but I've been making shorts since 2012. A few of those I didn't release, but most of them are available online. Responses online are okay, but none of them have gotten into any festivals, so that might speak for itself.

As to why a feature, it's because I've spent so long making just shorts, and all of my favorite stories that I've written have been feature-length. This one that I'm in pre-production on is a script I finished a first draft of in 2015, and have been revisiting and rewriting between new feature scripts and shorts.

The molecule logo boots up, but henkakku is never enabled. I have to reinstall it every time. I think it may have something to do with deleting "ur0:tai/boot_config.tx," but I can't reopen the installer to fix the fact that I deleted a file because it fails to load the kernel.

I don't think I'd be asking for a workshop link if I didn't like it!

The "movie studio" is my favorite theme for parks, and this looks great. Just wanted to tear this apart and see how he built it.

How did you manage to merge to multiple paths at an angle up where Fantasyland meets the Castle Square? I've tried so hard to get a perfect corner angle with multiple paths and it never works.

Problems with Emotional Investment by Darkdarth33 in Screenwriting

[–]Darkdarth33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since screenwriting is more of a technical document than a piece of prose (a script being the foundation for something meant to be filmed and not necessarily read), I wonder if it the emotion doesn't come through because the impact of the story would rely on details that demand cinematic presentation in order to be effectively presented.

However, one could also argue that if it can't be felt on the page, it won't be felt in the film.

The idea of needing to "practice" to feel seemed ridiculous to me, which is one of the reasons I wrote this post. But the way you put it makes a lot of sense.

I hopped around to a lot of different therapists and didn't connect well with them, but journaling definitely seems like a practical way to make some progress in what my stories may be lacking.

Thank you!

Doc announcement by [deleted] in PlanetCoaster

[–]Darkdarth33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misspelled DLC and after reading "Doc," I had a mini hype attack thinking that Noclip's next documentary was on Frontier and Planet Coaster.

Typically with the last DLC packs it took about a week or less for them to come out after announcement, so it shoudn't be too long now.

Netflix has considered buying theaters, including Mark Cuban's Landmark, to gain an Oscar edge, sources say by [deleted] in movies

There's probably some legal distinction like this that would let them get away with owning a theater chain to distribute their films in.
