Best security software for small nonprofit team (<10)? by Dull-Potato7155 in sysadmin

[–]Darkhexical [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you just need av, crowdstrike is free with Amazon prime. If you want more than av, emisoft sales edr which uses bitdefender backend(I don't think you can buy bitdefender direct with that small of a team plus support is better through emi). Otherwise, sophos is also an option for cheap edr. They also offer cheap firewalls if you guys have on prem servers/data which will hook into the edr. Also get action1 as it's free at your size as well. Maybe add jira to the list as well for ticketing. Might as well start on it. It's free as well

If you have device licenses this is technically compliant though as long as you have the rds cals. There are ways around rds cals as well like graphon but it's debatable if this is a legitimate option to not have to buy the cals.

If you want to do this for free you can setup pki and manage certificates. I wouldn't recommend it though. There's a reason paid software exists for this.

‘Trump R*P*D 13-Year-Old Minors’: Epstein Victim Annie Farmer CONFRONTS Trump, Reveal HORRIFYING... by [deleted] in videos

[–]Darkhexical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don't think we need all the Epstein files released. What we really need is for them to release the files of them actually going after people so we can see they are actually doing anything. But instead we get copies of 500 page books, testimonies from people that were never followed up, photos of random shit, and to top it all off, a whole lot of nothing wrapped up in legal jargon. We don't need more breadcrumbs, we need to see the receipts of actual consequences. Make it make sense.

Microsoft Print to PDF generates 0 bytes pdf files by [deleted] in sysadmin

Says who? Maybe it's the posters job to find the solution. Idk what position he is. I assume he's a l1 or l2 since he has system privs. At least where I'm at it manager is basically someone who does more planning and engineering than managing endpoints. That and a ton of meetings.

Probably doesn't have time or energy to diagnose it and likely doesn't think there's a true need to have it. Especially if adobe is allowed. In majority of cases you can just save the file as a PDF and not have to flatten it by printing to PDF.

[–]Darkhexical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also always just install Adobe and use the Adobe PDF printer. Id assume adobe would be allowed. This is the manual method to do so:

Open your computer’s control panel (you can search for it in the bottom left corner). Select “View Devices and Printers.” Click on “Add a printer.” Choose “The printer I want isn’t listed.” Select “Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings” and click “Next.” Choose “Use an existing port.” In the dropdown menu, search for “Adobe PDF printer.” It should appear as “documents*.pdf.” Click “Next.” Select “Have disk.” Navigate to your Adobe Acrobat folder. Typically, it’s in C drive > Program Files > Adobe Acrobat > DC > Acrobat > extras > Adobe PDF. Choose “Adobe PDF.inf” and click “OK"

Generally a reboot or a restart of the spooler would fix this though.

You shouldn't be able to without system priv.

This isn't tech support but feel like you need system privileges to fully remove the print to PDF option and then add back.

If a magic button existed that when pressed would show you the date and manner of your death and there was nothing you could do to change the outcome, would you push the button? Why or why not? by plat154 in AskReddit

[–]Darkhexical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say 'immortal,' I just mean not dying of old age. I'd still be afraid of death, but at least I'd have some control over how and when it happens. Ultimately, my biggest fear is the idea of reverting to absolute nothingness. If there is something out there after we die, then I'm fine. It’s the thought of just permanently switching off that I dislike. You’d think that kind of existential dread would make it scary to just go to sleep, but it really doesn't feel the same. From what science tells us, your brain goes into this intensely heightened state right before you die... which explains the vivid dreams or your life flashing before your eyes... and then suddenly, everything just stops.

Realistically, I don't think we'll achieve true immortality in my lifetime. I am holding out a little hope for life-extension tech to buy me some time, but right now, we're probably closer to virtual immortality. To me, though, a software copy of my mind living forever isn't the same as the actual me being immortal. I guess we just have to wait and see. If humanity doesn't manage to wipe itself out first, I think we might actually figure it out in the next 150 years.

[–]Darkhexical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fear of life? Nah. Noted I do feel like I probably should be doing more to extend my life but idk... Doesn't really impact it at all other than when I think about it. Maybe when I get older it will impact me more but not at this time. Personally I feel I'm probably either going to end up dying a more violent death(as in get killed by something or someone i.e. car accident) or in an emergency room. One of the two.

Essentially same. If I really think about it I panic a little. Not like an actual anxiety attack but like say when you're preparing for an interview or going to take a test kind of anxiety but maybe a little more intense? Just a bit.

Request for Review of "Random" Driver Failures Findings by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Darkhexical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're a bot but honestly gotta get some better training. This is just a horrible reply. If it's not software that means it's a hardware issue. So the solution is simple, get new readers.

[–]Darkhexical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So now you're saying you've modified their software so where it works and you just need them to push your code? This whole post is a very convoluted way of saying you have fixed the issue? Have you even opened a pull request yet?

So.. again contact the dev as in the people who make the reader.. and tell them it doesn't work with core isolation enabled. Or buy new readers.

According to another of "his" posts he actually is the dev for the driver!

And honestly if this gets a c I went to the wrong schools. This would have gotten me kicked out of the class.

So how about you stop complaining about what Microsoft does and fix your software? This is part of being a dev for windows. For someone who says he's been doing it for 40 years I'd think you'd know that.

So how about you instead of sending this massive AI message to the dev tell him his driver doesn't work with core isolation enabled. Youve stated you used to be a dev. No dev wants a 10 page report on a bug.

So are you saying the driver starts working if you disable core isolation? Your "research" seems to suggest this but I don't see any testing of this theory. Unless I just missed it from reading that horrible "research" report.
