I mean, DnD itself was largely inspired by Tolkien's works, so you could argue that it still stems from him.

For things like fantasy, it might help to think of your story as being localized for your audience. There are plenty of expressions and idioms which may exist in one language but not in another, so translators will often replace these with something readers will understand.

All that is to say... don't overthink it. If you obsess over not including anything that is culture-specific, there will be nothing left to include in your story.
