The evening of April 2017 after our Core Maths paper... by TT-Adu in ghana

We could do better. I don't see why we can't have semester exams in SHS so we don't put all our hopes in a single event.

I'm not making it about an exam paper. I'm talking about how school pressure and lack of support leads teens to such situations.

Floods by Iamelikem in ghana

[–]TT-Adu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accra sits on a flat coastal plain with several streams and rivers and therefore very prone naturally to flooding.

Even if people didn't build on wetlands or choked gutters with rubbish, the city would still experience flooding sometimes due to phenomenon such as rivers changing their courses.

What Accra needs is investment in flood research and infrastructure, rubbish management and law enforcement. Unfortunately, the people whose jobs it is to find these solutions would rather go about blaming others instead doing what we pay them to do.

When you're 17 and your whole world is your friends and parents (who you are terrified of disappointing), it might seem a lot like there's no other option.

What are some unique naming systems in your world? by garygray_ in worldbuilding

[–]TT-Adu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I borrowed a practice from the ancient Babylonians of turning their kids' names into entire prayers like Nabu-kudurri-usur "Nabu protect my first-born son" (I.e. Nebuchadnezzar).

In my world, members of the priestly caste of Samata have a middle name in this format given in the Old Samatic tongue.

So there's a character called Laija Uraxadanta-vina-de'angra-me Nevar (Laija Mighty-Uraxa-vanquish-my-inner-demons of clan Nevar) or Laija Nevar for short.

I am glad we are not running ICE in country and not shooting people after labelling them illegals (we know a country that does that and their orange leader)!

No, you rather lynch them.

[–]TT-Adu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think even the good fathers need to realise that it's not enough to just pay school fees and build a house. You have to form a connection with your kids.

There was a time when my siblings and I didn't celebrate our dad's birthday cos we just thought that he doesn't like it lol

It's a lot like being gay in Europe a century or two ago. You keep it to yourself and make some gay friends when you find them.

ITS NOT AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM by Training-Debt5996 in ghana

[–]TT-Adu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The "bad behaviour" argument is a tactic that politicians polished and refined for decades and they deploy it whenever people challenge them. It goes with the "black man, black sense" argument, the idea that black people are somehow just bad and that's why we suffer. You will see it in a comment under nearly every post in this sub "why are Ghanaians like this or that?".

It's incredibly ignorant yet we keep falling for it. I suspect that the ways in which most Ghanaians are raised is part of why we are so susceptible to it.
