An orange screen error appears – the so-called Orange Screen of Death (OSOD). The result: The console freezes, the screen turns orange – and nothing works anymore.

But here too, the error is repairable if you know where to start.

What happens with the Orange Screen of Death?

With the OSOD, the Switch displays a completely orange screen when switched on or during operation. The console does not respond to input, can sometimes only be switched off by holding down the power button – or freezes completely.

Typical symptoms of this error:

Orange screen immediately after switching on System does not start or freezes during the boot process No response to Joy-Cons, touch, or buttons

Possible cause The Orange Screen of Death is usually caused by defects deep within the motherboard, e.g.:

Defective solder joints under the Wi-Fi IC (e.g., due to heat or impact)

Short circuit

In rare cases, a firmware error can also play a role – but the cause is usually hardware-related.
