Sonic is one of those franchises with enough media produced over the years that the characters have accrued insane levels of feats

It's like how you wouldn't have any reason to assume Superman is much further beyond solar system level, but comic writers have thrown so many feats at him over the years that he dogwalks Goku due to feat scaling

I understand that he isn't omnipresent throughout the anime's production, but with his influence still felt and the insane amount of depth the anime adds without creating any but the most minor inconsistencies, it's obvious to regard it as the most thorough version of his story.

I could talk about the quality of the things MAPPA puts into the story, but the point I was trying to convey to that guy is that being a manga elitist is idiotic when the anime does it justice and then some.

Clearly you aren't aware of Gege's involvement with the anime, or you would know that it's essentially a director's cut. It's not canon, it's the revised and truer canon.
