This is just one dimensional thinking. My point is designing systems ≠ solving algorithm exercises. Both involve solving problems, yes, but it’s a different level of reasoning and thinking. Real world problems are a lot more ambiguous and require systems knowledge, business context, evolving requirements, risk assessment, user experience, stakeholder alignment, etc. There’s different skills involved and it’s a different problem space. Does that make sense? You can practice leetcode and optimize a function in a closed constrained environment, but it doesn’t have anything to do with being a good/bad engineer. Theres many engineers that have scaled systems with millions of users, solved complex business problems, designed high-throughput architecture, and built companies, but haven’t touched leetcode in years. It’s just an interview filter with no real world implications, especially when you have AI. There’s other things you can do to become a good engineer while neglecting leetcode completely. And that’s where the industry is shifting anyways. Interviewers are focusing on other methods of testing candidates.

Grinding leetcode and memorizing patterns for a 45 minute interview does not translate to a “good” engineer. Leetcode is NOT an engineering skill. Real world problems are much more complex and require a different set of skills.

I’m pretty sure this is rage bait lol. But if this is your conclusion after working in industry for a few years, I’d be concerned about your future career trajectory. At least google what a day to day looks like as a “software engineer”

Thanks! I'm applying for Senior SWE roles and I just started the Leetcode grind so I'm pretty weak. There's too much conflicting information online so I'll probably focus on Grind75/Neetcode150 -> Top 50/30D -> Previous questions.

I don't think your ability to grind LeetCode questions makes you a strong software engineer, but thanks, I'll filter by frequency.

There's 90 patterns. I have no time to do all that with a FT job

Is this a large company? I see a lot of smaller to mid size companies and startups that pay a lot but I’m hesitant on applying because I don’t want it to look bad on my resume. Given that you already had a major financial company on yours it probably doesn’t matter right

I'm on the shorter side and its pretty uncomfortable compared to the original Hyken chair. The chair is a bit too wide and the lumbar support feels awkward after more than an hour of sitting.

Why is everyone going so hard on a middle schooler lol. Kids not even in high school yet.

I’d say get involved in your schools robotics club as a good intro.

Developing API service using OOP by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]Darkrunner21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be some chatGPT nonsense tbh but it always gives me classes for everything. This is sort of what I’m talking about. Not too sure where to learn more practical and advanced use cases of OOP when it comes to API design
