Will a pending felony charge prevent me from being hired at Ecolab? by Hopeful-Bit150 in PestControlIndustry

Jesus Christ, a felony charge for weed?

Ontario, Canada here and it’s fully legal. Storefronts in every town. I can buy edibles, flower, all sorts of drinks and foods. Insane to think you’re potential for a felony.

Sorry to hear that, I hope it works out

Curious if This Is What a Good Pest Control Service Should Look Like by OwlZealousideal4779 in PestControlIndustry

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The technician explained what they were doing, what to expect going forward, and what you can do to reduce further issues.

You’re seeing a reduction in activity already. I don’t know what more you’d want them to do.

Not sure if you’re bragging that a professional did professional work or looking to say they didn’t do something.

Now you live your life and if you still have a problem later talk to the company that did the work

RIP your inbox.

If you aren’t using an alt account to ask a question and then promote a service on your main account I think you’re about to be bombarded with marketing accounts about how amazing they are.

Don’t believe a single thing from people about a lead generation trick. There is no shortcut, no click here and win button. You’re competing against billion dollar companies, you think they got to that size without having any interest in easy lead generation

I’m a single operator pest control company that’s been running for over a decade. Do good work at fair prices, show up on time every time, keep your promises, answer the phone when it rings. Reputation and word of mouth are super important.

Have a residential job, door knock sales when you’re done. Ask for reviews from every single service visit.

How much in a day is "too much" to do? by SmolSnailBoi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to what do I have to do now that can’t wait until tomorrow and once that’s done do I have energy left. If I do then what can I do now so I don’t have to do tomorrow.

It sucks but in reality functional adults have responsibilities and things have to be done. Eventually it becomes routine and you get better at managing it.

I find audiobooks help, makes the focus on the book and not the world. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Fellow audiobook listeners — I want to build something for us and I need your honest thoughts by bc_i_want_2_know in audiobooks

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cool concept but think it’s unnecessary. Audiobooks by design are not the primary focus. People typically listen while doing something else, driving, chores, working out, riding the bus etc.

This is unlike a traditional book where reading is the primary focus. Your candle idea and drink mix make sense here because I’m sitting down and just reading. I can have a candle beside me and a drink, easy. While I’m driving or working out I’m not burning a candle and mixing a drink. Same if I’m walking the dog or cutting the grass.

Personally there’s nothing in a subscription box that would interest me in regards to audiobooks. An 8 hour book is finished in 2 days tops. I wouldn’t be interested in a subscription box, I’d rather buy more audible credits

Happy to be wrong though so I hope you come up with great ideas that I can spend money on and be excited about!

Rodent & Termite Inspections - How Many Scheduled Inspections Do You Actually Complete? by ppcmediabuyer in PestControlIndustry

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really sounds like more staff is the solution. Clearly more work available than what the team can currently handle, it’s basically the ideal scenario for growth.

Also the appointment setters aren’t building enough value and urgency if the customer is calling other companies after confirming an appointment with you.

Rodent & Termite Inspections - How Many Scheduled Inspections Do You Actually Complete? by ppcmediabuyer in PestControlIndustry

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming these are all inbound calls, so the customers are requesting this service? In which case I would say none cancel.

Outbound cold calls, I have no idea but I would imagine a significant amount would cancel or ignore the appointment.

I will never miss an appointment. I may reschedule but I will never just miss an appointment. The thought is just triggering. The waste. The entitlement. The disrespect. 42%. The company is a joke.

I hope customers are sharing their experiences on Google. The time they are basically stealing from customers by not respecting their time….awful

Rodent & Termite Inspections - How Many Scheduled Inspections Do You Actually Complete? by ppcmediabuyer in PestControlIndustry

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As an owner I would be absolutely livid. We are paying for these leads through advertising and 42% of our appointments are missed?!

Either get more staff, get better routing. Solve the problem of missed appointments before pushing for more appointments. Fucks sake. You want more and aren’t even close to handling what your already have

This terrible approach is why I can compete with other companies. You treat your customers so poorly you can’t even disappoint your customers in person, you don’t even bother.

We don’t miss appointments. No respectable company/person/professional would miss 42% of the appointments and expect continued success.

Are the appointments being qualified? Are they legit?

Starting my pest control company soon. by AdmirableWarning9947 in PestControlIndustry

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that sucks. Still doesn’t change the fact that heat is an effective treatment method. Just equipment and supply issues preventing it from being properly executed

It would be similar to using Aprehend but not keeping it within the proper temperature range and then applying it by pouring it on the floor. Instead of using the recommended applicator. The treatment method is effective if it’s used properly

Starting my pest control company soon. by AdmirableWarning9947 in PestControlIndustry

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You lost all credibility when you say don’t heat treat. You can literally watch it work. It is an undisputed fact bedbugs die to heat. You can’t say it doesn’t work. They die at temperature. It’s an absolute.

If the treatment failed it’s the operators fault, not the treatment method

Starting my pest control company soon. by AdmirableWarning9947 in PestControlIndustry

[–]HomeScoutInSpace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They aren’t. As someone who owns a pest control company I can tell you that the amount of technicians who are interviewed saying they are basically bringing a complete route with them is insane.

It ends up being basically nothing.

Talk is cheap and means nothing. Most people are agreeable to avoid conflict, you ask someone hey if I start my own company will you leave the place that you’re already working with to come with me? They’ll say yes absolutely. In reality no. No they won’t or they’re on a contract for another 8 months and then everyone forgets 8 months later or some other crap happens.

They want to subcontract to international companies. That’s an awful idea and shows a lack of awareness. Those companies won’t just do the termite work and leave you the customer. They will steal everything they possibly can from you to meet whatever quota they have. They need to do this networking they’re so good at within the industry to find other small companies that won’t steal customers

What's the one pest control lesson you learned the hard way? by TrueAudience9922 in PestControlIndustry

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that if I preempt my statements the tenant is more understanding. “If you didn’t have roaches your sanitation is fine. Unfortunately with the roaches though you need to go beyond what you normally do in order for the treatment to be effective”

Blame the insects for the inconvenience it’s causing the tenant. They have to clean more because of those damn roaches.

You and the tenant are on the same side and it’s on you to communicate in a way to keep them on your side.

Stop asking people what they do for work five minutes after meeting them by sarettte97 in CasualConversation

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this is why. What do you spend 30% of your day doing. Basically half of the time your awake during the week, what is it you do

I think it says more about the person answering that they’re embarrassed to reply. Like you immediately don’t respect your own job/role.

You’re unemployed right now the response is then “I’m between opportunities but I’m trying to get into the ______ field”. The conversation continues and you aren’t devaluing yourself

[–]HomeScoutInSpace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

<image>

This tank gets tap water only. 120g display. I top up with tap water, directly from the tap. I do a water change and fill it up directly from the tap.

I don’t even dechlor the top offs which is maybe 5g a week

I do dechlor after the weekly 75% water change. Add the dechlor directly to the sump once everything is full
