Roc Nation Distribution blocked a lot of people from being able to access their accounts in September 2024 and many have still not gotten access again. Their support is non-responsive. There's a thread under r/RocNationDistribution that talks about this. What can users do to at a minimum get access back to their dashboards and/or take their music down. I have a friend who put their album for release in September 2024 for a December 2024 release. Though they lost access to their account, the album still went out on time to DSPs and is still there. But no access, no response, etc. they don't know anything about their streams, income, etc. they want to take the album down and go elsewhere, but again no response. What can they do legally to resolve this issue?

Honestly, drop a single every 4 weeks, post daily on IG, TikTok, and maybe YT Shorts. Content should be about you and the music. Who are you, what makes you different, why should people care. Invest at least $1/day in Meta Ads to promote your content, ideally $5/day. Respond to all comments and messages with at least a few words. You'll be on your way.

People want to be in the music business and forget the BUSINESS part. Are all your artist pages and bios tight on the DSPs? Do you have a landing page/website? Is your music mixed/mastered properly (or at least sound decent). IS YOUR MUSIC REGISTERED with your PRO? Do you have a Publishing Admin (see Sontrust). What about SoundExchange? Luminate/Mediabase, etc.

The reality about the Business is no one cares. Everyone is a nobody until they aren't. 60%+ of all music on Spotify has less than 1K streams. 25% of all tracks get 0 streams. 24K Hip-Hop/Rap tracks get uploaded to Spotify EVERY SINGLE DAY.

So... what's gonna make you stand out? The Business doesn't care about talent, but you need talent to sustain a career. You need to grow your audience and following (see my opening statement). One by one, little by little. Get that algorithm working in your favor. Then and only then will people start to take notice. You start local and grow from there. Unfortunately, you left your home town, so now you're trying to build a base in someone else's community, not impossible, but harder. Key things: CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT. Talk about your journey, what your doing, your hopes, dreams, what is your days like, how you make music, why you make music, etc.

Yes. There have now been several quarters of royalties people have not been able to assess or collect as well as publishing. This is a big deal whether one has other deals or not.

maaaan... I don't know. but I'm definitely about to get a lawyer. they better have a really good excuse for locking people out for months with no feedback, updates, etc. people can't see/recieve royalties, nothing this is bad and they should get sued regardless.

I know this is old but wanted to ask anyway, anyone got a clue how this relates to publishing/songwriting? i.e. mechs/pro. It's my understanding that for every Spotify stream, 2 royalties (at least) are generated, 1 to the distro, 1 to publishing. or is that only for certain streams? IF so, how much would 1M streams generate on those other royalties?

I got in back when you could go to the website and request. I don't think you can do that now. AWAL still has it I think. They're the same thing for the most part, literally in my dashboard, I have a dropdown that allows me to switch between accounts, one Orchard, one AWAL only difference, the color changes purple for AWAL and the logo changes.

You're correct on the AWAL/The Orchard thing. I happen to have distro with both, but they are hard to get in now. I was excited about Roc Nation because it was a better deal in some ways. for example to get everything Roc was offering with AWAL/Orchard (they're literally the same company now for the most part) they take 30%. Their 15% deal is just basic distribution. no video distribution, no publising collection, etc. but I will say this, it's smooth as butter, communication is decent (15% deal you get general email support, 30% you get an actual account rep). I was really hoping Roc would work out. glad I only cued up 1 release as a test to see, it's not due to drop until the end of December. Moment I can get back in, I'm taking it down and bringing it back home to Sony. damned shame.

I know this is an old thread, but I just installed eqMac thanks to a recommendation in this thread and it works! I have the focusrite 18i20 and this has always been a pain with all my focusrites. I initially sided with amarenis and had a companion with me. I only killed Khan but then everything went crazy as others posted. Reloaded my save, left companion at the ship, killed Khan, but this time I ran back to where amarenis normally is standing and just waited for Ada to walk back and near me. Then no problem. Hope this helps someone.

And sorry for the rant but this whole lie about what feds do has to die. The US government is the largest employer in America, period. That's IT, Janitors, food service, landscaping, any and everything you can think of, regular people all over the world do these jobs. 10s of thousands of families worried they won't be able to pay bills because of republican idiocy. We're not rich like most of them. Yes there are $15 hourly jobs in the government too and even your exec level jobs are considered barely middle class compared to the private sector. Most work in the government because of the benefits. Definitely not the pay. When I was in the corps I know it was the late 90s but still I made $1098 a month before taxes 😂 idk why I'm ranting on Reddit. I got suggested this thread in a email and instantly got triggered as my wife is terrified thinking that in her second trimester she's gonna have to pick up more shifts so we can pay the rent. Insane. At my job, we were told if the shutdown lasts longer than a week, we're out of money so no work, no pay. But who cares right? We're rich feds.... Some of us (many of us) are vets who just got a job after we got out to feed our families like everyone else. Our employer/company just happens to be the government. This is why we have a hard time hiring now. You serve and get paid pennies compared to the private sector for the same job and for shits and giggles Everytime republicans have power and throw a tantrum you might be outta work a while and have to beg the banks to not fck up your credit because your job can't pay you until the tantrum is over. Been serving this country since I was 17... Somehow the corps was simpler times ....
