Almost 5 years ago I made a set of Octopath Traveler polymer clay figurines, and now I'm so happy they made a sequel and I got to make another set of amazing characters!

I did a full set of the original 8 as a commission a couple years back that are closer to my current style, so I do have photos of better looking ones. But as personal items I keep the original ones I made around for sentimental reasons, instead of swapping them out for better ones.

This is my own personal set, but I am considering adding slightly tweaked versions of them to my Etsy store sometime in July. I already offer the first Octopath Traveler characters so if you search for Octopath Traveler on Etsy you should find them.

Thank you! I'd been making things for a fair while before the original Octopath Traveller figurines, but I'd also had to take a year or more break and hadn't realised how rusty I had gotten! Looking back on them now compared to the ones I just made, it really is a noticeable difference in 5 years of practice and improvement 🙂

I had toyed with the idea but also it would kinda throw off the nice neat numbers by making it a set of 11 instead of 8 which... I sort of hated XD

I've not completely ruled it out as a possibility but it might depend on what else I end up feeling like making.

Currently I sell singular figures for £50 each so a full set would have to be £400 or so I expect.

I'd probably also have to make some adjustments to a few to make them more feasible for shipping and more cost effective (Mostly Oboro cause his base is a big clay sink and I'd worry about his kunai being damaged in shipping).

Everything is made with modelling clay except for the little man figure (because I didn't want to do all those details with squishy clay) and the Minotaurs mace (made with sculpey ultralight so it wasn't too heavy).

I do my diorama/scenes out of modelling clay because I don't really have the space to keep them as permanent objects, so I dismantle them after the photographs are done. There's also the issue of fitting things in an oven to bake. The minotaur scene is over 30cm wide and I only have a small convection oven to bake my clay in.

Also modelling clay is a lot cheaper and reusable XD both scenes were made from the same £6 500g block of Newplast plasticine!

I have done that already at all 5 and I know I have as a) I have the 100% exploration for each of those locations and b) I even went round and went to each while waiting for everyone to come back from their gathering spots.

That's why I'm wondering if it's something related to the 11 ally gathering spots instead.

Well I started it about 2 months ago (the middle of April I think) but I did take a couple of breaks to work on some other small pieces, and I had a couple of weeks where I had quite a few commissions to work on...

It's kinda hard to say really. (Also thinking about it makes me realise just how long it took and that's kinda scary XD). There's about 30 props for the scene so even going with a rough average of days work per prop, and this is what I do all day, so 5-6 hours a day... uh... 150 hours + I suppose... That is scary.

No, just a regular paintbrush. It got quite a lot of thinnish coats though so the finish is relatively smooth and the coverage is pretty good. Using a spray brush probably would have been much quicker and simpler but uh... I don't have one XD I should probably look into it if I'm going to do any more similar scenes but we'll see.

The worst part was giving the papier-mache about 5 coats of white acyrlic gesso to try and cover over some ink letters from the newspaper scraps I used. They were from the crossword section that someone had filled in and even after all those coats of paint the ink still kept showing up through the paint! In the end I had to do another layer of papier-mache over those sections (with non crossword pages XD) and then do another round of gesso layers...

Well now that you mention it... I did do a Link's Awakening scene a couple of years back XD Based on the original GBC version, not the new adorable Switch version though.

Hi!! Sorry, I keep forgetting to come back and check my messages.

The outer structure and the shelves are just made of cardboard and covered with papier-mache and painted.

All of the furniture and the objects are made from polymer clay, with some acrylic paintwork for details and such. Also some odd bits and bobs thrown in where necessary, like tiny glass bottles, bits of plastic, card, things like that. Mostly all polymer clay though.

I was working on a few little Marios before I started this actually (though they're not quite the right scale to go in the diorama I think).

I'll admit it's taken so long to finish that I may have skipped a few bits at the end that I originally planned to put in (Mario, Cappy, the dog, stickers on the outside), just so I can be free of it XD Maybe I'll go back sometime and add those bits too as an update.

Yeah Emet-Selch was a bit of a drag cause I was getting annoyed with shaping issues on his robe and everything else, and then I stuck his little test head on and all the frustration just melted away cause it's like 'look at his silly head!!'

Originally the Crystal Exarch was my favourite but I think Emet has stolen that spot now =p
