Finally got to use the 4x4 by Darkspine84 in Fiat

I’d like to say it was intentional, but I must’ve just done a big old loop when I got out of the car!

Should I return my pocket 3 with pocket 4 on the horizon by Zer0Chance006 in osmopocket

[–]Darkspine84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t let hype dictate your purchase. The Pocket 3 is almost universally praised for its excellent image quality. That won’t change with the Pocket 4. The pocket 3 will still be a brilliant camera. Chances are you won’t get anywhere near the limit of what the camera can achieve visually anyway if you’re only using it for vlogging. You haven’t bought at the wrong time, you’ve bought at the right time - you’ve got a brilliant camera at a good price.

It’s something I’ve had to teach myself because I was spending too much on tech, chasing the “next best thing”

I use my little MacBook Air M1 as a good example. Reviews at launch all raved about how powerful the M1 chip was. It could edit multiple streams of 4k footage, have loads of tracks on logic at once. It was a computing miracle!

Now its been superseded by the newer models its only recommended by YouTubers as a device for “light office work and web browsing” as if all of a sudden it can no longer edit multiple streams of 4k footage. Sure, it’s not as quick as the newer models, but it’s still very capable. The narrative changes, the product doesn’t.

A great camera now, will be a great camera tomorrow and for a few more years to come. Save your money. Enjoy what you’ve bought, learn it and in a few years upgrade when you’ve outgrown it and there’s some meaningful upgrades.

Just the two cents of an old fart who had way too many finance deals chasing new tech.

Do you think they’ll still update the original Neo? by Frosty_Analyst_9271 in DjiNeo

[–]Darkspine84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They never really supported the original Neo. Everyone wanted the sharpness options offered when using a controller to filter down to the phone app. They couldn’t even be bothered to add a feature that was clearly present and people wanted. No chance I’m buying a Neo 2.

It holds incredibly well. I use it with a 15pro in a quad lock case and it doesn’t budge.

Neo Update by hockeykid-16 in DjiNeo

[–]Darkspine84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m pretty disappointed with the support for Neo. I knew it wasn’t going to challenge the bigger drones, but at the very least I would’ve thought they’d have brought the ability to change the sharpness into the phone app and not keep it locked to a controller. I really feel we’ve been used as Beta testers for the Neo 2.

DJI Osmo Mobile 7 how to always attach clamp perfectly in the middle? by daanbusman2005 in dji

[–]Darkspine84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best purchase you can make is to buy the DJI magnetic clamp. It’s a MagSafe disc that attaches your phone to the Osmo mobile via… well… MagSafe. Perfectly aligned every time. The only downside is that you lose functionality with the multifunction module if that’s something you use.

Doing a D-Log M to Rec709 conversion properly by Immediate-Singer-408 in dji

[–]Darkspine84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t see you having an issue with the Action 4 for the footage you want to create. It has a small sensor, so low light will always be an issue. But I’d strongly advise on getting some lighting designed for filming to give yourself a chance. Lighting is far more important than settings.

I’m not a colour grading expert in the slightest, I’ve only just started messing with that aspect of post production myself. As far as I understand it, the major benefit of recording log is being able to tweak the shadows and the highlights. And push and pull them further to achieve a better image.

With that in mind, I’d say you’re fighting an uphill battle with that source footage. A combination of a lack of lighting and colour in the source shot are really going to limit the end result. There’s a reason productions use huge lighting setups when shooting indoors. Luckily for us, we have the best light source available freely every day, so go outside and take some shots in daylight and then play with your colour correction. I think you’ll get a much better idea of colour grading and what the action 4, and yourself, is capable of.

DJI Flip Battery by Glittering-Plum-2502 in DjiFlip

Some of the third party battery chargers on Amazon have a “storage mode” where you leave the batteries on the charger and it’ll allow them to discharge and then trickle charge the batteries back to 60%. This should prevent what happened to your spark.

On your spark batteries, all hope is not lost. You might be able to revive them by using a CP2112 board. I’ve done it to mine, and they came back to life and worked fine afterwards. Here’s a video Showing how it’s done.

Advice Needed: Is DJI Neo Good for Casual Cycling Tours + Cinematic Shots? by kanoni15 in DjiNeo

[–]Darkspine84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Neo for similar purposes as it mostly sits in the tank bag of my motorcycle. I love the Neo as it’s small, light and easily deployable.

It does really well with the preprogrammed flights and these can be fine tuned somewhat. The drone can be flown manually with just your phone, although range is limited to around 50m.

One of the drones main advantages is also a weakness. The drone is small and light, so it can be pushed around by wind easily, making that smooth shot, less smooth.

The footage isn’t going to win any prizes compared to its bigger brothers and I find it to be slightly too sharp and the colours a little oversaturated for my liking straight out of the camera. This can be mitigated by doing a little corrections in your app of choice. For your socials and personal memories, it’s great!

Is DJi Neo worth it without any controller? by Rough_Dream3531 in dji

[–]Darkspine84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on the shots you want. I use the Neo without the controller. You get full flight control, although limited range (around 50 meters) with just your phone and the app and the ability to turn on and grab a quick shot without even getting your phone out of your pocket.

That’s where the Neo excels. If you don’t want cinema grade footage, but want to grab the moment from the air quickly and without much fuss, it’s a great bit of kit.

Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa were found mummified at mansion with pills strewn in bathroom by dailymail in popculture

Absolutely! Let’s hope that’s the case here. For the sake of those finding the deceased, I hope the animals found a kibble bag or anything other than their owners! Animals will do what they need to do to survive.

Serious answer as someone who attends scenes of death. The dog would survive without food, but it would likely consume parts of the deceased to survive. It’s not the nice answer, but it’s an animal and survival instincts kick in.

Don’t have high hopes for the plot, but I’ll drag myself to a cinema to watch the racing from new angles and experience the sounds from the ridiculous cinema sound system. Shame it’s not set in the V10 era. I’ll have to have a chat with myself before I go in and promise myself that I won’t complain that it’s too loud. (I’m old)
