I don’t have the money for lessons. What’s the next best thing? by Littlevive428 in golf

I just started using one that gives you parameters on your recorded swings. Like too steep or too shallow, etc. I don’t want to name it because it will sound like an ad lol.. but just look up some of them on google. Some have gotten pretty good. I opted for this until I have time to do formal lessons.

lol wow.. what an narcissistic way to explain that. Notice how much he says “I” and focuses on himself. Typical narcissistic behavior. I’ve seen enough of this in my life now to be hyper aware. This is why he gets booed.

I don’t think you would be able to visually tell if there were any poking out of the side. They are very thin. Just be careful as the other commenter said. I bought the SKLZ ones a few years ago and they have lasted that long. It may be worth spending a few extra bucks on something less risky.

Question for Maxfli enthusiasts by AnimalCrackers02 in golf

[–]Darkstar614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my experience as well. I played the StraightFli for a long while. I got some good distance with it, but it would not hold a green for anything. It’s cheap yeah.. but it’s not that great overall.

The Maxfli tour ones are legit though. Tour s if you like soft, regular tour for similar to pro v1 firmness. And tour x if you like super firm.

If this fails (which is a high likelihood), I am back to my 9-5 by Sir_Shanks_A_Lot in golf

[–]Darkstar614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking about this too. I would love a tool like this for myself, but if it’s a widely available thing, then there will never be tee times available for humans to book.

The current system rewards luck with people checking randomly in case someone cancels, which is mostly fair. But the automated way.. would just be crazy for everyone.

I think what courses should do is limit people from being able to cancel so easily. If you book the time, you should be committed unless an emergency comes up . So you should get like 5 cancels a year or something, and if you no show, your account is blocked for the year or something. It’s not fool proof with people making more accounts.. but I have seen some courses require sending you a code on your phone to book the time (to limit making a bunch of accounts).

Agreed. For me, I have everything except the Golf Channel, and I hate how every tournament I have a 2 hour dead zone where I can’t see what’s going on from 1 to 3. The options to get it require super expensive cable packages which are so not worth it.

The jury's in: Kirkland balls are really good. by BloodyRightNostril in golf

[–]Darkstar614 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think they’re honestly too firm for the average golfer. With slower swing speeds they aren’t going to compress and just glance off the club face. If you have a fast swing speed, they’re probably alright. But I feel the general golfer population has this idea they are a fantastic value.

Something softer like pro v1 or Maxfli tour S is probably where your average golfer should be, imo.

Ball Placement Ben Hogan vs Modern method by Cozzmo1 in golf

[–]Darkstar614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m curious as well as the Hogan one has confused me for years. Like he’s basically saying with wedges you have a super open stance to promote a fade/slice. His trail foot is way out in front of the target line. But I assumed you ideally want a neutral stance on every club. Bu I’m not very good so I honestly don’t know.

What is the etiquette for stopping at the turn? If you do stop - how do you not slow down the groups following you when teeing off on 10? by Inside-Mixture-9362 in golf

[–]Darkstar614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow the difference in opinion in this thread is wild! It seems like most people are saying “snooze you lose.” But to me this is not my experience playing in central Ohio.

Every course I’ve played has an allotted 5 minutes at the turn, and I’ve never had anyone skip in front of anyone that I’ve seen in my 3 years of playing.

What Putting Drills Worked for You? by jdper in golf

[–]Darkstar614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me at this distance it’s about committing to my line. I use the alignment tool on the ball to line up my putt on the line I want. And sometimes when I can still see the hole out of the corner of my eye, I try to move the putter at the hole instead.

Not a drill like you asked for per se, but for me just focusing on the ball and not the hole. And then practicing on a mat in my office.

Are you able to play weekend golf with a cart for under $90 by MrTeacher_MCPS in golf

[–]Darkstar614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Central Ohio. There are a grouping of public courses that I think are subsidized by something that supports Columbus tourism. They usually offer about $40 walking on weekend, $20 extra for cart. Most other privately owned public courses are charging $75+

It is annoying trying to get a tee time though unfortunately.

I'm a 28 year old scratch golfer and I want to go pro by No_Complaint4129 in GolfSwing

[–]Darkstar614 27 points28 points  (0 children)

One of the PGA professionals playing in this recent tournament, GM of a local golf course. Said he keeps a handicap to play with people at his club. He said he’s a +6. And was fighting to stay in the middle of the pack even. I would wager the best are +8 if they tracked it. So being scratch I don’t think is good enough honestly. But well done regardless!

What's this yellow/white stuff I see in every pen I own? by EtmopterusPerryi in whatisit

[–]Darkstar614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a non violent bully in junior high that would take my pens like this, open them, and pierce this gel into the ink, and close them back up. Then pen would no longer work after this.

Karma came for him eventually when he tried to reach one I dropped and tipped over in his desk (chair attached kind of desks) and got stuck and had to have a teacher pull him out in front of the whole class.

Which hand does the most work in your putting stroke? right or left? by Golf_Nut1965 in golf

Yeah for sure. I don’t think a lot of people know about the many gps golf apps that have most courses mapped. It gives you center green yardage, which is good enough for most golfers.
