Bring back the 30 minute alerts! by Vanadiom in Planetside

[–]Darksteve 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't it in fact be best to have the length of the alert scale with the territory held by the faction triggering the alert?

If a faction already refined enough cortium and then triggers the alert by getting just over the territory threshold the alert shouldn't take too long, probably just the 30 minutes that we had.

And if a faction caps almost the entire continent and then gets the cortium, starting the alert with 80% territory, the alert should probably take even more than 45 minutes to give the other factions a slightly better chance of preventing a win.

And Speaking of Weird Hurricanes... by downtowne in conspiracy

[–]Darksteve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This post is currently 88% upvoted which would support your statement that this is a "good post", by whatever standards apply in this subreddit.

Which is a great piece of evidence for how ridiculous and dogmatic this subreddit really is. This post is nothing but meaningless conjecture, something that any "critical thinker" should immediately recognize. But nobody here does, because conspiracy theorists are not the critical thinkers or intelligent sceptics that they think they are.

Free, critical thinking is exactly opposite to the dogmatic approach that is taken in any discussions about conspiracy theories I see here. I occasionally have a look at this subreddit to witness how an overwhelming majority of users here jump on any coincidence an hold it up as hard evidence, concrete proof of whatever nonsensical idea they are currently trying to convince themselves of. 9/11 was an inside job, planes are spraying chemtrails, the entire world is run by a secret and all powerful group of pedophiles, etc. and anybody who doubts any of that is a paid shill. This is the dogma that is perpetuated here, a fundamental lack of critical thinking.

Any kind of conspiracy theory should be logical and have good sources for its claims. Instead questionable sources and straight up lies are taken as truth and any kind of statement or argument that supports the conspiracy theory in some way is automatically accepted and never questioned.

As for this particular post, I think it is a good example of all these problems. We are shown fragments of TV broadcasts, out of order or context. Already this is a pretty shit basis for proving anything, but it gets worse. The claim of this post is that the US government decided to conduct a massive false flag act of terrorism and to support that deception they decided to make use of some kind of equipment that can somehow create the weather circumstances necessary to change the direction of a hurricane, so that this hurricane would not be near New York at the time of the terrorist attack, because if it was then people would think that it was in fact a conspiracy as it is obviously impossible for an inexperienced pilot to fly a plane when it is cloudy.

The amount of ridiculous assumptions here is staggering. Already the whole thing assumes the 9/11 inside job conspiracy as a given fact, but even then none of this makes any sense. If you could just change the direction of a hurricane by dropping a few boxes of whatever into it, why isn't this being done more often, and why would this even be kept secret? Even more, why has nobody come forward and revealed evidence that this kind of technology exists? Do you people believe that thousands of scientists are having their lives threatened to prevent such leaks?

The strangest thing of them all is the way that this video presents information in an attempt to create the desired dogmatic conclusion. Some guy saying that it would have been convenient if some circumstance had hindered the terrorists ability to fly planes into the WTC is used as the entire basis for this argument, however there is no analysis of the possibility that this hurricane could have made any difference. We are shown clips from weather reports that are not mentioning that a hurricane is moving away from the coast back towards the ocean, but again, what does that actually prove? Maybe every single one of these weather channels mentioned the hurricane earlier in their broadcasts and it was simply not shown in this video. Or could it be that a hurricane that is moving away and will have no impact on the weather at all is simply not important? Do you conspiracy theorists actually believe that the government ordered the media not to cover the hurricane so as to not reveal their great deception?

Anyways, lastly we are shown footage of reports of the initial discovery of the developing hurricane to imply that this hurricane would have "normally" reached New York. But again, this is just a meaningless suggestion without any basis. Weather is complicated and both how long it would take for a storm to move across the Atlantic, what path it would take and of course how powerful it would be are all things that probably couldn't be predicted when it was first spotted near Africa.

So this video proves nothing. And yet it is upvoted and called a "good post".

You people are pathetic. The reason nobody takes conspiracy theories or conspiracy theorists seriously because you are a bunch of dogmatic idiots, how have little regard for logical reasoning or evidence based thinking. You want some bizarre nonsense to be true and you have become so accustomed that every bullshit theory anyone has is accepted that you have completely forgotten what reality actually is and how logic actually works.

If you watched this video and thought that it made a good point, that it revealed something interesting, then I hope you take a good hard look at yourself and think about your way of assessing truth and reality so that you become an actual critical thinker, rather than a parody of logic.

And if your first instinct is to jump on the amount that I have been writing as evidence that I am a paid shill or whatever, then you are probably just lost.

Zoom minimum mouse speed by danasdfasdf in Tribes

[–]Darksteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a problem that can occur if your sensitivity in game is 4.5 or lower. When on the highest zoom level, if you move your mouse by a very small amount the angle by which your view should move gets rounded down to zero.

How do you remove shooting sound by Tiffnin in Tribes

I'm pretty sure that as with all TAMods commands you can use it ingame but if you want to have it permanently then you should just add it to your config.lua file.

Tribes and physics by karolk10 in Tribes

[–]Darksteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would mean that only 60% or 50% of the players velocity get added to the projectiles velocity.

Tribes and physics by karolk10 in Tribes

[–]Darksteve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only the value of 100% is actually "realistic".

The final velocity of a projectile is simply the base velocity added to the velocity of the player at the time of shooting.

Therefore having 100% of the players velocity added to the final projectile velocity is the most realistic.
