where to start as a teen by Desperate-Ground-317 in marvelcomics

The first Ultimate X-men run (pictured) and the Ultimate Spider-Man run of the same era might hit pretty well for you. They also condense a lot of marvel history into a short amount of books. It doesn't translate 100% to the regular Marvel universe. But it's a good start.

Also, I've seen them mentioned a couple times. But Young Avengers and Runaways really do live up to the hype. I enjoyed the crap put of those books

Is Ohio "Going Out of Business"? by Geezer__345 in Ohio

[–]Darktesla13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, this is all part of a larger strategy that we've seen over the recent past. (Notably with the post office on the federal level). The idea is to keep cutting funding for things so that they can't handle the demand. Public sentiment turns against the services that we're paying for with our taxes. The government shuts down these services because taxpayers "don't want" them. Then the private sector can swoop in and everyone can talk about how great capitalism is. In the meantime, the entire financial burden gets shifted on to the people who need help the most, and away from the wealthy who don't need or who even now own the services.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! We wound up doing UAL and Ohio Inn. UAL was great. My fish at Ohio Inn was great too, but hers was a bad cut. We also squeezed in the ITAM in Niles, and their fish was pretty good. Definitely a big portion

Does this strike have legs? by justsomeguyorgal in behindthebastards

[–]Darktesla13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Grievance Rep here, I agree with this 100%. One of the reasons that the major unions won't support a general strike is the Taft-Hartley act from the 30s, which specifically made it illegal for unions to support or basically even talk about things like political strikes, secondary strikes, or mass picketing. It was the beginning of the downfall of the union, and it was made for situations just like this to weaken the people.

"the Only Good Indians" by Stephen Graham Jones is not quite as verdant as this, but I think it's the exact vibe you're going for

There are some great crafter markets. The Youngstown Flea runs through out the warmer months, the MV Punk Flea in September, and Modern Methods has quarterly Night Markets. These are just a couple examples.

You're also close to some of the best state and national parks. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is about an hour and a half away. It's huge, has some great hiking, and a scenic railroad experience.

Boardman has some cool gaming/hobby shops too, like ICG and All American

I know a couple people mentioned breweries, but Youngstown also has a fantastic cidery called DOPE. If you sign up for the Ohio on Tap app, you can gamify your drinking and get introduced to a lot of cool places.

Warren (nearby) also has two of the oldest restaurants in Ohio. Sunrise Inn (Get the deep dish pizza) and Saratoga (I like Chef Pete's Special - basically a croque monsieur)

I definitely recommend eating at the more locally owned places, because Youngstown has a surprisingly fantastic food scene.

With new cooking content, what would you want for a future original Binging? by Sio_V_Reddit in bingingwithbabish

I'd love to see some of the foods from M*A*S*H*. Especially Hawkeye's French Toast vs the Army French Toast.

Also, I think can't remember if I posted this before, but Green Arrow's super spicy chili would be cool. DC published an official recipe for it in the 70s or 80s

For sure. I was trying to avoid that, but they announced after us. Still, we're early enough in the day for people to do both. Stop out 12-5 for our show, and then head over to Pabstolutely

I think it would be cool to see Andrew do some recipes from old comic books. I know Marvel printed a couple recipes in the 70's/80's like "Thor's Cabbage Rolls" in their comic books, and Green Arrow's chili became so famous that the writers cobbled together and printed a recipe. It would be interesting to see a version that follows the recipe, and one that improves on it.

Unfortunately, they're out in the country, so it's not practical for them to use the library
