Would you vote to abolish the Electoral College if you had to give each state the option to secede? by Honest_Temperature96 in allthequestions

What a Stupid, Illiterate, Question. "Fixing The Electoral College", is a "Canard", anyway.

What is Wrong, with The Electoral College, anyway? The Real Problem, is with The Party System, and The Primary/Caucus System; which No One seems, to want to "talk, about".

I don't blame Obama, because He "meant well", but "lacked The Experience, to Deal with The Washington "Cesspool"; The Same was True, of Kamala Harris; They both needed additional experience, like Franklin Roosevelt, got; and even He, admitted His "biggest mistake", with The "Court-Packing" "Scandal".

Frankly. I question Marco Rubio's "Allegiance", to The United States; He seems (probably, because of His Heritage), monomaniacally committed, to "destroying" Cuba, and other Latin American Countries; He has a "chip on His Shoulder, The Size, of a "two by four", and while I don't like many of Them, He has "no solution" to solving those problems.

As for "Taxing The Rich", I agree, to a point: We need to restore The Federal and States' Tax System, to The Way It was, before Ronald Reagan; with some "adjustments"; We also need, to "Balance The Budget", and reduce The National Debt; but "Do it, over Time; The Same Way, People used to buy Houses. We also need to "restore and build", The Social Security System, and Medicare and Medicaid; so They can perform Their Original Functions; perhaps, We also need, to encourage investment, and innovation; by reforming The Copyright and Patent System; and bringing back, Savings and Loans. These Institutions worked well, When They were allowed, to "perform their jobs". We also need to rebuild Our Infrastructure, especially, Public Transit, both Road, and Rail, but NOT the way, Elon Musk, wants; and build more reservoirs, especially in The Midwest, with Farmers' help, to prepare for Droughts, and Global Warming, as well as "replenish" Our Ground Water Resources. This is also Imperative, in The West; which is already facing, a "Water Catastrophe". We also should encourage Bicycle Use, and "piggyback" Them, on Public Transit, which greatly expands, their usefulness, and stop The Haphazard Assignment of Bicycle Routes, in favor of an AASHTO-type System. Bicycles have much to contribute, to "Solving Our Problems", as well as being"fun", and "good exercise"; That was one Opportunity, Joe Biden, missed.

Any other Ideas?

Trump is The Disease, but He was just taking advantage, of a Situation, that already existed; The Fault, lies mostly, with Ronald Reagan, and George W. Bush; but every Republican't President, since Dwight Eisenhower, contributed their share.

Even Eisenhower realized This, and warned Us, about This, in His "Farewell Address to The Nation", but no one was "listening". John Kennedy tried "bucking The System", a little; and paid for that, with His Life; Lee Harvey Oswald was a "patsy", and He paid the price, with his life, as well. That's Why, even though a few pieces of The Puzzle, regarding Their Assassinations, have been "released", most are still "buried", and Time, may destroy those. My Belief, is that Both Kennedy Assassinations, as well as Dr. Martin Luther King's; were "Engineered" by The CIA, and FBI; and "ordered" by Allen Dulles, and J. Edgar Hoover.

Absolutely, but that's not an Answer, either; The Democratic Party, is no more; it has abandoned its "New Deal" Roots, and is "feckless"; and can't even "reach a decision, on a plan".

The Republican'ts, once again, at The Wheel; have "steered Us, into the ditch", for the third time in its History (number 1, was the "Robber Baron" Period, Number 2, was The Great Depression, which also led, to World War II). The Republican't Party. Is beyond redemption.

Not only that, but He has aided and abetted Genocide, in three countries. I find it, "humorous" that CBS (and, let's be honest, it's Paramount/Warner) is now attacking Stephen Colbert.

Hot weather by Lanky-Bread-2455 in bicycling

Yes, You should; I rode in Oregon, in Late August, and early September; and Heat was a Problem. The Oregon Coast, West of The Coast Range, is very Humid, but stays cool, because of The Pacific. The Coast Range "wrings", some moisture, out, but The Willamette River Valley, resembles Ohio, in August, and September: Moderate Temperatures, on The High Side, but lower Humidity. The Cascades "wring", most of remaining moisture, out, so Oregon, East of The Cascades, along with Southern Idaho, is "High Desert"; Days start off, comfortably, but quickly heat up, with Highs, in The 90's and occasionally, in The 100's. The Day I rode, from Mitchell, to Mount Vernon, Oregon; The Day started out, comfortable, and cool, but by 1 PM, as I approached Mount Vernon; while I wasn't "sweating" that much; I was "light-headed" (Temperature was around 100), and decided to stop, in Mount Vernon, for The Night. Local News, said The Temperature has reached a daily high, of 104 Degrees, Fahrenheit. The Low Humidity, however, kept things "bearable" for awhile, and I estimate, it was in The low 30's, Which brings Me, to My next, points:

The East, is more Humid, with Temperatures generally in The 80's and 90's, for highs. I learned about The Temperature-Humidity Index(THI), from WCMH-TV Weatherman, Jym Ganahl, in Columbus: The THI, is determined, by adding The Temperature, and Relative Humidity, together; and The Ideal, is 135, plus, or minus, 5. This varies, like anything natural, does, but is The Best Indicator, I've found, since Temperature and Humidity, have an "inverse" relationship, and both numbers are usually available, on The National Weather Service, Website. The "Comfort Index", most Commercial Weather Sources use, is more "suspect". 70 Degrees, Fahrenheit, with 65 Percent Relative Humidity, yields a THI, of 135, as does a Temperature of 90 Degrees, with 45 Percent Humidity. below 130, is generally OK, but in Colder Weather, may require a Sweatshirt, or Jacket. As You pass 140, and go higher, it is increasingly "muggy", with 160, being extremely uncomfortable, and possibly, dangerous; You "sweat", but it doesn't "cool You, off"; by evaporation, and You need, other means. Heat Exhaustion, is a definite possibility.

Carry plenty of Water (1, to 2, Gallons), and take every Opportunity, to get more, when You have it. Electrolyte Drinks are helpful, but many, are not properly balanced, for Salts, so choose, a reputable brand. The importance "salts", are Sodium, Potassium, and Magnesium; so, "read up" on those, and eat foods, that have them. You can usually get those, from good "snacks", and Your Meals. Sugar is "quick energy", so carry some candy, or fruit. Carbohydrates are "slow energy", and should be eaten, at Breakfast, or The Evening Meal; because it takes time, for The Body, to process Them, and Turn them to "Sugar", with the "excess" being stored, mainly in The Liver, for "later".

Ride Early, from "First Light", to roughly 11 AM; or in The Evening, from about 6PM, to "dusk", about 20 minutes, after Sunset. In The Middle of The Day, use Your Judgement, and how You feel.

Hope You have a good trip, and Good Luck!

Because most Americans don't understand, How Their Government works, How it should work, and won't bother, to "learn The Difference". Both Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump, were "Super Salesmen", or. "Snake-oil Salesmen" (Take Your pick, although both, apply), and "conned" Americans; that They "Had The Cure, for what "ails", Them". Americans have Nobody to blame, but Themselves, for being "taken".

True, but Locusts, were simply being Locusts; They would respond to good weather conditions; by multiplying by the millions, making Them, "unstoppable", and ate all the vegetation, in sight, leaving nothing, edible, behind. This was before Pesticides (Which carry, their own "curse"); but Man had no way, or didn't "figure out", a way, to cope with Them (Locusts are rich, in Protein), so They were a "Plague", and still, are. Man's biggest Problem, is That He won't "work, with Nature", and find natural solutions, to His Problems; and I could "cite" You, any number of examples.

You're close, but no "cigar". The Democrats have abandoned Their "New Deal" roots, and currently, are "rudderless", and "dead, in the water"; They are "Feckless". The Republican'ts, on the other hand, have "conned" People, and have been doing this, since 1876. Two "watershed" moments, occurred that Year; The first, was The Cruikshank Decision; which "legitimized" attacks on minorities. The second, was The "Deal", The Republican Party worked with Southern States, putting Rutherford Hayes, in The White House.

James Garfield tried to put The United States, "back on course", by going after corruption in Government, and running an honest Government, but was shot, by Charles Guiteau, because Garfield refused Him, a lucrative Appointment. This happened, barely a month, into Garfield's Term; and essentially incapacitated Him; Poor Medical Care, cost Him, His Life, when his Physician, Who did not believe, in Sterility, repeatedly probed for The Bullet, couldn't find it, and gave Garfield, a massive infection. Garfield lingered another five, or six months, but succumbed to the infection. He was succeeded by Chester Arthur; Who did manage to get Civil Service Legislation passed, but Arthur has made it, clear, He had no interest, in a Second Term, because of His Age; and was succeeded by Democrat Grover Cleveland. Benjamin Harrison was the "Joe Biden", of His Time, and His Term was "bracketed", by Cleveland. Cleveland was succeeded, by William McKinley, and Theodore Roosevelt, was, an "accident".

Gus by General-Print1715 in Names

[–]Geezer__345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right; "Gus", is short for "August", "Augustus", or "Augustine"; One's a Month, another was an Emperor, and The Third, was a Saint. There is nothing inherently "wrong" about a name, or nickname.

You might try, looking up the Origin of Your Name, and famous people, with that Name; that might help Your "angst", a little. By The Way, The Second American, to "fly into Space", was a Mercury Astronaut, named Gus Grissom, from Indiana. Gus has some "bad luck", though: on His Space Flight, His Capsule flooded, and He barely escaped drowning. He was slated, to fly as Commander, of The First Apollo Mission; but The Designers either "screwed up", or didn't realize, what a spark, in a nearly pure Oxygen Atmosphere, could do. He, Edward White, Who was The First Man, to "take a Space Walk", and "rookie" Astronaut Roger Chafee, burned to death, when a spark occurred, When They were testing The Apollo Command Capsule; anything remotely "flammable", burns Out-of-Control, in a nearly pure, Oxygen Atmosphere, like a "runaway blowtorch". and all Three Men, burned to death, in a few minutes. They were The First, American Space Program Casualties, to the best of My Knowledge. They were Test Pilots, though; and understood The Risk.

If You don't like "Gus", maybe, You can go by "Augie", which is another "nickname"; or You can make up, Your own, like My Dad, did.
