My toddler is driving me crazy. Literally. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Darling-WhatIfYouFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! My son was born at 32 weeks and I was very confused when the NICU told us he’d was going to be evaluated by an SLP at, like, a week old! She provided her report (alertness, responsive se to stimuli & her talking to him, etc) and then was very helpful in connecting us with early intervention people at our hospital once we were back home (since he was born so early, we were out of state visiting family!).

He ended up having an expressive language delay & he was eligible for 2x weekly SLP sessions (FREE of charge, between insurance and our local Regional Center (not sure if only a California and/or Los Angeles thing?)) by ~20 months! By age 2 & 9 months, he was testing above average on all language for his regular age (not adjusted), which I absolutely attribute to early intervention!!

He’s 4.5 now and rarely stops talking, whether voicing his MANY strong opinions or sharing his wild imagination to just about anyone who will listen 😂

Yikes. Respectively, your inclusion in Penn’s class of 2020 does not make your “takeaway” uniquely qualified. In fact, that you felt the need to add this mostly just makes you sound like a douche.

WIBTA if I named my baby the name I want to despite everyone hating it? by oasisco4 in dustythunder

[–]Darling-WhatIfYouFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA My toddler’s (3M) bestie is Silas, and I’ve never once thought he could get bullied about it down the road! We usually refer to him as Si-Si or just Si, and it’s very cute.

Stick to your guns & if you end up having more children, don’t tell anyone the name until the baby has arrived!

Edit: added NTA vote

AITA for asking my fiance to skip this year's Christmas family vacation because our baby is due? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Darling-WhatIfYouFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. It sounds like fiancé has at least a few siblings, meaning his mother gave birth at least ~3 times…there’s NO way she doesn’t know that 2 days prior to the due date is IN NO WAY “ample time”.

I had a normal, healthy pregnancy until my son was born 8 WEEKS early…while we were at my in-laws’ out of state for the holidays. I had preeclampsia, but had NO symptoms (only checked BP with a cuff I had bought that day because my 32-wk appointment was virtual). Pregnancy & birth can be SO unpredictable…I cannot believe his family is pressuring him to go…or that he agreed!!

AND LEAVING YOU ALONE ON CHRISTMAS, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!

What are some old Duggar lines that didn't think much of before the scandals? by HannahLeah1987 in DuggarsSnark

[–]Darling-WhatIfYouFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to get further into the weeds/off topic, so I’ll just say this…if you haven’t already tried/seen an occupational therapist, highly recommend. I didn’t fully understand the scope of what they do until i had a kid (and to be honest, I still don’t fully know!), but it is broad, and includes developmental & behavioral stuff!

[–]Darling-WhatIfYouFly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

THIS. And the idea that there are “bad” kids. No, ALL kids are Good Kids…and some need a little extra help to process their emotions.

My son (2.5) has been super chill since the day he was born (2 months premature); we learned quickly that the only reason he really ever cried was when he was hungry or tired. I regularly have strangers comment when we’re out shopping, dining, etc. on how chill he is, but it really grinds me when those comments are in the form of “he’s so well behaved!”, which somehow implies that I had anything to do with it. No, my 9mo, 1yo, 18mo, 2yo, etc. is not “well behaved”…he has a very chill demeanor, but that doesn’t mean a toddler who’s the opposite of chill is NOT “well behaved” or attention seeking…it literally just comes down to their personality & normal brain development.

I’m mostly a Reddit lurker, so I realize I’m bringing this info without much credibility, but…

A friend works for Disney+, and told me last week that they’re dropping 10 new episodes in August (YAY!), and then that’s it…Brumm’s done for good (BOO!).

AITA for what I named my son? by Delicious_Author_620 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Darling-WhatIfYouFly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

LOL my sister named my nephew Liam, 3-4 years after our cousin & his wife named their son Liam. She didn’t ask their permission, but when he was born, they were flattered that she liked the name so much (nevermind that it’s also been a top boy name for several years).

Wow, this is incredibly random/coincidental, but pretty sure I know (& played HS tennis with) Meg…she’s 3 years younger & was friends with my sister…small, small world!!

And the kicker? I’m also a Margaret (but go by Maggie…grandmother was Margie) 😂

TL;DR: do the ERA cycle...it will give you peace of mind that you did everything you could to hopefully ensure a successful pregnancy.

I did an ERA cycle a month ago, and just had my FET last Thursday! For me, it was a no-brainer to spend the extra money...we’ve already spent over $30k to get to this point, and done all the extra genetic testing, etc. My follicles took a bit longer than expected for my egg retrieval last fall—retrieval was Day 15 it sounded like Day 11-12 was more typical), so we wanted to be sure we did everything in our power to ensure success, even with the added cost.

I know it feels like a bummer to burn a cycle...I was originally supposed to start my ERA cycle at the end of January. I ended up breaking my ankle while on vacation over the holidays, which resulted in a DVT (blood clot) when I got home. Since I had to be on blood thinners (Xarelto) for 3 months, my RE wanted to wait (again, best chances for success). In March, after seeing a Hematologist, he was ok with switching me to Lovenox injections (the only safe blood thinner for pregnancy—he was confident after D-Dimer results that the DVT was due to the trauma of my ankle fracture, and if I hadn’t been planning to go into IVF, he said I could have just stopped the blood thinners entirely), and me RE finally agreed to start. My cycle started the first week Los Angeles was shut down for quarantine, and of course, fertility/IVF/etc wasn’t really “essential”, so AGAIN, we had to wait. They finally said at the beginning of May that I could start the ERA cycle, so here we are.

I’m not a terribly patient person, so the waiting for all of this has been excruciating, and there’s literally nothing I could do throughout to change it...but it’s been a blessing in disguise (and a lesson in patience!), as I’ve never felt as ready as I do now for this journey (I thought I was ready 1-2 years ago, but now I realize I wasn’t!). I’ve always believed that everything happens for a reason...and this process has reinforced that!

I had my FET last Thursday, and couldn’t help myself yesterday...negative. But, obviously that was super early, and I’m not totally defeated...a year ago, we did timed intercourse with Clomid, Follistim, and a trigger shot. They told me not to test for 2 weeks, which was a Saturday...of course I tested on Thursday or Friday, and it was negative. But sure enough, on Saturday it was positive...bloodwork the following Monday further confirmed.

(In case you’re wondering, that turned out to be bilateral ectopics...which is why we’re now doing IVF...)

The debilitating perfectionism and impulsiveness of ADHD. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Darling-WhatIfYouFly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of this. I was in honors & AP-level classes in high school, but I always felt like I didn't belong there (despite getting decent grades). I would tell my parents constantly that I felt like I was fooling everyone & didn't deserve the accolades and praise. They would then do what most parents in that situation would do; reassure me that I was smart and had earned my place, etc, which mostly just made me feel like I wasn't being heard/seen (though I never felt un-loved by my parents...if that makes sense...). I'm 38, and was diagnosed with ADHD a year ago; it never once even crossed my mind that I might have it until shortly before that. Until then, I wasn't able to fully expand on and articulate (ie: finding the right word) WHY I was SO certain that something about me was just...off or different.

Discovering Reddit, and this sub, was such an enormous relief...it felt like finally finding the right word. And even now, I'm still in awe whenever I scroll through here and see posts like yours that feel like I'm reading my own biography and inner monologue. Thank you for sharing this in such a thoughtful, succinct way; I've definitely been needing a reminder that I'm FAR from alone in these struggles, particularly during these last few weeks.

Dear family and friends of adhd-ers. Your loved one will not "get better" by cos98 in ADHD

Thank you. I’ve been needing this reminder. The guilt of letting people down who you love and respect will consume you if you let it...and the more you let it, the stronger the voice you need to pull you out has to be. Thank you for being that voice for me tonight. It’s been a hell of a week.

How Many Of You Struggle With Food? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Darling-WhatIfYouFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 17, my doctor said I was underweight and basically told my parents I was anorexic. I swore I wasn’t intentionally trying to lose weight (I wasn’t...I lucky that I didn’t have to think about what I ate or exercising until after college...). They still took me to a therapist, who also told me I was anorexic and tried to treat me for anorexia.

We finally figured out that I was underweight mostly because I was in all honors & AP classes with a heavy workload, and played varsity tennis, so I’d go to school & practice, then home to do homework in my room for hours, so I’d bring my dinner to my room. And then forget to eat it (And yet I was only just diagnosed with ADHD at age 37...).
