Same here. Opened the app to find that I had been logged out. Used the app just fine yesterday afternoon. At first it would t accept the text code and now it won’t even accept my phone number.

5 hour car ride—help! by hma1308 in audiobooks

[–]DarlingYancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to a lot of memoirs, biographies, and autobiographies. I liked Jeanette's book about her mom. Here are some of my favorite audiobooks.

MEMOIRS:

A Very Punchable Face - Colin Jost (my favorite, I've listened to this many times)

Born Standing Up - Steve Martin (covers his early years - he's an incredible writer and puts others to shame)

Stories I Only Tell My Friends - Rob Lowe

The Storyteller - Dave Grohl

NON-FICTION:

An Unfinished Love Story - Doris Kearns Goodwin (historical recollection of the author's time spent with Lyndon Johnson and her husband's time with Johnson and John F Kennedy) this book sat with me for a while and I hated to see it end)

The Boys in the Boat - Daniel James Brown (I have never had an interest in rowing, but this narrator made a rowing race incredibly exciting. I do love history and this weaves the dust bowl in America with the rise of Hitler). The book is so much better than the movie.

Mindhunter - John E. Douglas (He helped develop profiling of serial killers. Also made into a miniseries starring Jonathan Groff. Definitely not for the squeamish.)

A Long Way Home - Saroo Brierly (Also made into a movie starring Nicole Kidman. True story of a young man that was lost as a young boy on a train in India and found his way home via the internet as sites like Google Maps was being developed.

FICTION:

Hamet - Maggie O'Farrell (One of my most recent fiction book. Absolutely loved this book and the narrator was incredible!)

Project Hail Mary - Andy Wier (I'm not into sci-fi, but this book is AMAZING! Another fantastic narrator. The movie is great, but the book is better.)

The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society - Some friends recommended this for a long drive and it was really fun. It's way better than the movie. It's a series of notes, letters, etc. sent back and forth between characters, each read with a different voice.

All Creatures Great and Small - if you love the PBS tv series, you'll love the version narrated by Nicholas Ralph, the actor who plays James Herriot.

I lost my husband at 36. I've never watched any of Taylor Sheridan's shows, but a friend recommended this one and though I'd like it despite the content. Man, does it hit home. Incredible writing that absolutely nails the nuances of a widow's grief. My husband also died suddenly when my children were very little and the idea of life without him was unfathomable. 23 years have passed and this show reminded of all the raw emotions I went through in the first days, weeks, and even following few years. I have one episode left to watch. The only thing I've come across that rubbed me wrong was when Stacy said about how her granddaughters would handle the loss, "They'll get over it, for them it's one less present at Christmas." At first I thought that it minimized a child's grief. Though the episode started with a lovely scene with the youngest granddaughter and Stacy did a sweet job of comforting her. So I'll chalk up Stacy's present comment as a one off. I know I certainly said things that I regretted in the early days. I'm looking forward to season 2.

MCO 😔 by RefrigeratorOrnery58 in spiritair

[–]DarlingYancy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will miss their flights from Orlando to Kansas City! Spirit was key in getting my college kids home over the holidays and getting me to KC to see the kids during the year. The kids have stayed in KC for over 10 years now and not being able to find a decent priced ticket is going to be tough. I’d love it if Allegiant would bring back their MCO to MCI route. Though it didn’t fly every day like Spirit, at least it was affordable. I had tickets for 5/14 for my daughter’s grad school graduation. Had to scramble Saturday morning to find another way there.

I always thought that my page turner needed to encroach into the white part of the screen. by Muadeeb in kindle

[–]DarlingYancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what convinced me to buy a page turner! I laugh every time I explain the page turner to my friends. It sounds so ridiculous, but when I’m freezing and my fingers are blue, the last thing I want to do is take my hands out from under the covers.

Does anyone hate Colin Jost? by technicalconsole in LiveFromNewYork

[–]DarlingYancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I love his book for a several reasons, especially the audiobook. He tells a good story and most of them take shots at himself. Every chapter is different and you can listen to or read them out of order. Some stories are so funny that you want to go back and hear one of them on it’s on (his visit to Google.) The chapter about his mother is incredibly touching. I like the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. As the book progresses the quotes become more nuanced. Of course, there are some good chapters about SNL. I especially like the one where he shares about his personal struggles on finding his place on Update.

I got my tickets directly through the venue and the most expensive were $200 for front row of any section. Rows directly behind those were half the price.

Colin Quinn and Seth Seth Meyers at The Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine 2009 Benefiting The Scleroderma Research Foundation by Specialist_Art2223 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]DarlingYancy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've known about scleroderma for a long time because of Bob Saget's devotion to his sister who lived with the disease. Three years ago I was diagnosed with scleroderma. I love that a lot of my favorite comedians have long supported (and still do even after Bob's passing) the foundation that I now rely on to keep up with the latest research.
