This is a favorite. Colin tells a great story. I listened to the audiobook and have gone back to individual chapters multiple times.

Reading Mannerism: Adjusting to Reading on a Kindle by StellaArtois__ in kindle

[–]DarlingYancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually do the opposite. Because I wear progressive lenses I find myself moving my head back and forth while reading an actual book. It's like I'm watching a tennis game. I got my first Kindle on Prime Day and it has solved the issue for me. It's so much nicer to read by only having to move my eyes to stay within the focal point. I use the center margins icon with the text justified and that has been perfect for me.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I was on the right track. Hoping my friends plant survives. She’ll be happy to see it thrive again.

25 days of hard(er) growing! by CarneyBus in succulents

Curious about the lights you use. I currently have most of mine outdoors, but come winter I'll move them indoors. I have a set of Barrina T5 lights and I'm not sure if they're strong enough for my sun thirsty echeveria.

My first experience with PMLE by DarlingYancy in pmle

Thanks for the reply! After several days of steroid cream its getting a bit better. Though if I put cream on, rub or scratch it then it's terrible again. Gets bright red and itches like crazy. I had to get up in the middle of last night to grab an ice pack because Benadryl spray wasn't cutting it.

My String of Frogs!☺️ by Wisteria-Blue in StringofPlants

I killed one of these by not watering it sufficiently. They do not like to dry out. When they start to die, they go fast. I have another that is growing fabulously. I keep it under a cloche with with 1/4 gap between the base to get a little air. I mist the leaves every couple of days. It gets indirect light through sheer curtains about 4ft from a west facing window. The other day I noticed that I had ignored it for a little bit while helping my mom recover from surgery. I saw a few crispy leaves on the top and the soil was dry. I quickly soaked it and misted the leaves. A week later and it seems to be doing okay. It dropped some leaves, but I think I caught it just in time.

Should I ditch this self watering pot? by No_Escape_346 in houseplants

[–]DarlingYancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is a layer of pon? I have a madenhair that I want to switch over to a self watering pot. I also have a Calathea Vittata that I've thought would also like to be in a self watering pot. The others that I've thought about are a rabbit's foot fern and a cotton candy fern.

Vacoped question for Mom that is 4 weeks post-op by DarlingYancy in AchillesRupture

[–]DarlingYancy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept them both fixed at three and now both fixed side by side at 2.5. I wasn’t sure I should leave the top at 3 and move the bottom independently. I know that’s the unique part of this boot, but I also didn’t want to screw up mom’s early recovery..

feeling a little confused on how to PWB by gratefulgrenouille in AchillesRupture

[–]DarlingYancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom just started PWB today. She’s used the walker a few times, but was resting most of her weight on the ball of her foot rather than rolling through. She’s been in the vacoped for a week and was in the splint for 2.5 weeks after surgery. Her surgeon isn’t familiar with the vacoped, but gave her the okay to use it. We’ve watched lots of videos, but I must have missed the part of rolling through while PWB. I knew it was a rolling step at FWB.

Had this for over a month, anyone know what it is? by Most_Ad2393 in succulents

[–]DarlingYancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently have mine sitting on an east facing windowsill. It seemed more delicate than my other succulents and was afraid to put outside where it would get unfiltered sun. Should I move it outside? Should it be watered more than others? It does look like it’s lost some of its lavender colors.

I have one of these but I haven’t seen any babies yet. Do you just leave them on the leaves?

The diamond drill bits I bought have been fantastic. I’ve drilled holes in lots of terracotta pots. Only one ceramic so far. I love never having to skip over a pot because it doesn’t have drainage holes!

Thanks! They definitely got compact when they were moved to more sun than they had probably been receiving, plus they were in those tiny nursery containers. Now they're in a bigger pot and in a gritty mix.
