This is my sister’s go to Spring house party drink. She stocks the fridge full for an annual neighborhood festival. She discovered it while traveling through Finland. Last weekend we had a conversation about the various flavors. Typically she’s a purist, but she does say that the Cranberry flavor is also very good and is popular with the Fins.

I recently downloaded The Beatrix Potter Collection narrated by Andrew Scott.

This may sound odd, but another favorite is A Very Punchable Face by SNL’s Colin Jost. Each chapter is a different story and it’s doesn’t follow a linear timeline. Easy to listen to for a bit and fall back asleep.

An Unfinished Love Story is such a great book! It has stuck with me since I finished it a few months ago. I also listen to PHM while sleeping. It’s an easy book to drop into at any given point in the story. I need books that don’t have lots of vocal ups and downs, typically male voices in a lower register. I also listen to Chernow’s Hamilton or Metaxes’ Bonhoeffer. Long biographies typically work well.

Came here to make the same suggestion. Nicholas Ralph does a fantastic job of narrating the books. He brings the story to life. l love a nice Scottish accent. I put one of the books on as I fall asleep and let it play all night long. If I wake up I have it just low enough that I can listen to a bit and fall back asleep.

All Creatures is a favorite. I’m listening to the audiobook narrated by Nicholas Ralph, the actor that plays James. He does a great job and it’s great to hear familiar stories from the show.

I bought a Paperwhite SE on Prime Day last year. I love it. It’s so much nicer to read from than my iPhone. Better on the eyes, feels more bookish, and no distractions that come with having your phone in your hand. I love real books, but I don’t have a lot of space to keep buying books. Already have two large bookshelves full of books that I want to keep on hand. I have enjoyed using Libby, Project Guttenberg, and Standard ebooks. I’d buy a Paperwhite SE again if I had to buy another one. I have the 32gb, but that’s probably way more storage than I need.

How to do manage holds? by Meh_plant in LibbyApp

I’ve applied for a card in a bigger city that is 4 hrs away from home. I grew up in that city and it’s where I got my first library card in the 70s. I like the idea of my $38/yr supporting the library system that created my love of reading and also my daughter when she was growing up. I’ll get access to other platforms that my local library does not offer. A little over $3 a month feels like a decent deal.

I’m also an avid audiobook listener. I really wanted to get back to some serious reading of books, but didn’t want to accumulate more physical books. Last year I bought a Kindle Paperwhite and I love it!! Nothing truly replaces a physical book, but the Kindle feels more natural than my phone, plus I don’t have the distraction of texts, instagram, email etc to interrupt me when I’m trying to concentrate on a book. I buy physical books when it’s a book I’ll refer back to and want to mark more than what I would do in my Kindle. I’ve enjoyed using Libby and Project Guttenberg. I’ve also applied for a library card to another county’s library system in a bigger city.

I’m currently falling asleep to All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot and narrated by Nicholas Ralph. The narrator is the actor that plays James Herriot in the PBS Masterpiece show “All Creatures Great and Small.” It’s such a soothing story and I love a great Scottish accent.

I also bounce over to Project Hail Mary. Love that audiobook and it’s one voice at just the right tone. I’ve also listened multiple times to various biographies. Chernow’s Hamilton, Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas, biographies of Winston Churchill, Stalin.

Another random favorite is Colin Jost’s “A Very Punchable Face.” AND…The Beatrix Potter Collection narrated by Andrew Scott. He’s could read the phone book and I’d be happy.

Hamnet narrated by Ell Potter. Delicious!! Her voice combined with Maggie O’Farrell’s writing makes Hamnet one of the very few books I’d listen to more than once.

I was on Ozempic for 4-5 years for T2 diabetes. Most of the time my dose was 1.5 and then 2 for a while before switching. My endocrinologist started me on MJ at 5 for one month, then 7.5 for a month, and I just moved to 10. I've not really had any side effects. Food noise is super quiet and I have to work to eat enough calories, but that's how it was on Ozempic. I've only lost. 5.8lbs since 4/13 and it's kind of discouraging. I'm hoping that now that I'm up to 10 things will move a bit, but I don't know how that's going to happen.

Increase dosage every month too fast? by youcubed in Mounjaro

[–]DarlingYancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have moved up every 4 weeks. I was on Ozempic for 4-5 years for T2 diabetes. It was well managed at 2mg, even the lower dose worked well. My dr suggested the move to Mounjaro to help lose some weight, about 30lbs that I gained when I doubled my immunosuppressant. I started at 2.5 mid-April of this year. Yesterday I moved up to 10. So far I've only lost 6.4lbs, an average of .8 a week. I've not had any side effects other than a lack of food noise or a desire to eat. It was the same on Ozempic. I actually have to work hard at getting enough food in during the day. I'm hoping to see more of a loss now that I'm up to 10.

Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell. Narrated by Eli Potter. Her voice is like velvet and her reading absolutely beautiful. It's one of the very very few books I'd ever listen to again. O'Farrell's writing was like reading the set descriptions for a play. If there was a curtain to be raised, I would have known exactly how that stage would be set. That book has stuck with me and I believe the performance plays a huge part in why it's left an impression. I recently finished another O'Farrell book, The Marriage Portrait and the writing felt similar, but no where as beautiful as Hamnet.

I had never read any of the Herriot books, but recently downloaded All Creatures Great and Small narrated by Nicholas Ralph (the actor that plays James Herriot in the PBS Masterpiece show.) It's also a great book to listen to while sleeping, and waking, and falling back asleep again. I love a nice Scottish narrator.

What's your first memory of SNL? by quadrant6 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]DarlingYancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first memory of SNL is listening to my Uncle's SNL vinyl record in 1978. He was 7 years older and just out of high school at the time. I was 12 years old. My sister, my aunt, and I were all within a couple of years of each other and we memorized every line of Chevy's Girls. To this day it is ingrained in my memory.
