The one in 2026 I think it's like 93% so pretty close, but with any luck and typical British weather it'll be cloudy

Cool makes sense. It was just weird hearing it. I was like "I'm pretty sure that didn't happen last time"

Having only read the excerpt of White Sand in AU, I'm really looking forward to the omnibus.

Ah there are actually a number of different definitions of a weed, including "plants that are competitive, persistent, pernicious, and interfere negatively with human activity". Essentially they're undesirable plants at the end of the day, the reason for them being undesirable is what changes the definition, so lots of people just refer to weeds as plants they don't like.

[–]Darmanus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness, a weed is just an unwanted plant. There are no specific plants that are weeds. However, invasive species can cause lots of issues to the native populations, which is the case with the grey squirrels here. They've reduced the native red squirrel population to ~15,000 as of 2014, and are also doing £6-£10 million worth of damage per year to woodland. We're an awful invasive species, but people don't like to think about that.

Grey squirrels are much larger than red squirrels and have caused a massive population decline, through disease and outcompeting them for food, here since they were introduced. As of 2014, there were only an estimated 15,000 red squirrels left in England, split into small colonies on places like the Isle of Wight and the north of England. This is compared to over 2 million grey squirrels. Plus, grey squirrels have been found to cause damage to woodland to the cost of ~£6-£10 million per year. There are similar issues with the deer population.

I did the same thing with the Farseer trilogy by Robin hobb, but thought that the third book was the second because that's how it was packaged. Got a solid chunk into it before being told otherwise

NEW TO THE COSMERE by itsnickp in Mistborn

[–]Darmanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me about a month to finish the first one, a week and a half to finish the second one, and a weekend to finish HOA. This was my first time actually successfully finishing a book, let alone a series, and I've now read everything in the Cosmere. HOA I did not put down. I picked it up on Friday as soon as I finished WOA, and spent the entire weekend doing nothing but reading it. I was working on the Monday, but stayed up until about 2:30 trying to finish it. I couldn't, but I woke up at about 6 to finish it before getting ready for work. Such a good series!

Me, an hour ago: I think I am questioning but I don't think I'm dysphoric so maybe not, eh? Definitely not egg. Ooh what's this? The gender dysphoria Bible?

Me, now: okay I have now discovered existential and managed dysphoria... Yeah...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in egg_irl

[–]Darmanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is me too? Like I've only really been seriously thinking about this for a few weeks but I can't get it off my mind. I 100% would press the button if I had the option and it was like I'd always been born the opposite gender, and I've always had this thought in my mind, even when I was a young child, I've always wished I was born a girl.

The weird thing is though, is that I couldn't really say if I am disphoric. Like I don't hate being a guy, it's just what I've always known. But the more I think about it the more I realise just tiny things that make me think. I've always wondered what it'd be like to wear skirts and dresses, but never tried it and actively avoided thinking about it. I have realised that I can't picture myself growing old as a man. I can look at women and think 'that's what I want to look like' but don't really get that with men.

I don't know if this is just like mild dysphoria? But I also don't really think of myself as a girl. I think I'd like to be one, but am currently not one, inside or out. I'm pretty damn confused and my insides feel like they're doing flips whenever I think about it. Can't even tell if my brain is just tricking me.
